Minister Lu requests an imperial decree to grant him a marriage, but Emperor Yuming arranges a marriage haphazardly (4th time).

Lu Huai gave Shu Zhan a disappointed look. "What future son-in-law? I don't want to! If we really go through the main gate and they respectfully welcome me in, wouldn't that confirm the marriage?"

Shu Zhan scratched his head and nodded. "You're right. But Miss Qin and my sister are good friends. They sometimes go out in the same carriage. I saw her once from afar, and she's very beautiful. Why don't you like her?"

"Pah! Shu Zixiang, you're so shallow! Do you think I'm that kind of shallow person?" Lu Huai glared at him. "Think about it, marrying a rigid woman means marrying a bunch of rules, doesn't it? If you like her, how about I let you have this son-in-law?"

Shu Zhan was bewildered by the glare. After thinking about it, he realized that Lu Huai was right. Just as he was about to say something, Lu Huai interrupted him.

He waved his hand, "Enough talk, just help me get into the Prime Minister's residence."

So Shu Zhan squatted down and let Lu Huai step on his shoulders. Just as they got into position, a voice rang out: "Who goes there!"

Lu Huai sensed something was wrong and was about to run away when he forgot that he wasn't standing on the ground, but on Shulan. The two of them tumbled and fell face-first into the mud.

"Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey," Lu Huai got up, spat out the mud in his mouth, and turned to look at the person who had come.

"So it's Young Master Lu and Young Master Shu. This servant was disrespectful," Steward Qin recognized Lu Huai, cupped his hands in greeting, and ordered someone to help him up.

“No need, I can stand up by myself,” Lu Huai said, standing up and brushing off the specks of mud from his white robe. “I want to go in.”

Butler Qin gestured invitingly, "The door is this way. Young Master Lu, please. Young Master Shu, please."

Lu Huai snorted and defended himself, "So this is where it is. The Prime Minister's residence is too big; it almost made me dizzy."

Butler Qin simply smiled and said nothing more.

-

"Young Master Lu, Young Master Shu, please have some tea first. My master will be here in a moment," the butler said.

Lu Huai nodded and took a sip of tea. He was indeed quite thirsty.

Prime Minister Qin deliberately kept them waiting for a while before coming over. Seeing that the two were still patiently waiting, he nodded to himself.

"Greetings, Prime Minister Qin," Lu Huai and Shu Zhan said, rising to greet him.

Prime Minister Qin nodded and said to Lu Huai, "There's no need for such formalities. From now on, we're all family. You can call me Uncle."

Becoming related to Prime Minister Qin should have been a great thing, but Lu Huai couldn't smile at all.

“Uncle Qin, I think this marriage needs to be discussed again,” Lu Huai said after a moment’s hesitation.

"Oh? Do you wish to meet my daughter?" Prime Minister Qin sat down in the main seat and looked at him.

Lu Huai thought for a moment and decided that perhaps he should talk to Miss Qin in person to resolve the matter. "Yes, thank you for your trouble, Uncle."

Butler Qin reminded him, "Master, since ancient times, men and women have not been allowed to meet before marriage."

Prime Minister Qin waved his hand, "It's alright, just send someone to fetch Yizhi."

-

Qin Xi and Shu Hua had just finished their meal and hadn't even exchanged a few words when they heard that Lu Huai wanted to see her.

"I heard you're engaged to the second young master of the Lu family, is that true?" Shu Hua asked curiously.

Qin Qi nodded. "That is indeed true."

“If that’s the case, how can we meet before the wedding? Wouldn’t that be against the rules?” Shu Hua said as she walked, linking arms with Qin Qi.

"I'm afraid they've come to break off the engagement."
