The courtesan, oblivious to the nation's ruin, still sings "The Song of the Rear Courtyard" across the river.

How long has your young lady been pregnant?

Lele pursed her lips, glanced at Qin Xi, and seeing that she held the teacup without making any other gesture, she then said, "Your Highness, it has been more than eight months."

"Yes." Princess Zhaoyang nodded. "Then we must be careful."

She had seen the boy's chubby-cheeked appearance, his dashing and spirited demeanor, and his dissolute and spoiled nature. But she had never seen him as a husband and father.

Princess Zhaoyang stroked her teacup, her eyes lowered, her thoughts already drifting far away.

Looking at her like this, Qin Xi was reminded of the time he had talked with her at the Minister's residence last year.

At that time, she had just married Lu Huai by imperial decree. The leap from a young girl to the matriarch of the household was considerable. She felt somewhat lost and therefore made a three-point agreement with Lu Huai, forbidding him from going to brothels.

However, Lu Huai agreed verbally, but for some reason, he abandoned her the next day to go drinking and carousing.

Qin Xi felt she had been deceived and was so angry that she boarded the carriage early in the morning, intending to return to her parents' home. Later, Lu Huai was scolded by Minister Lu and got up to chase after her. In the end, she was soft-hearted and, after hearing his promise, went back with him.

On the third day, they returned to their parents' home for a visit, staying for several days before finally setting off back. Before they even entered the gates of the Minister's residence, they encountered Zhao Xuanqing, who was then only Princess Zhaoyang. It wasn't a coincidence; she had deliberately waited there to ambush Lu Huai. As a result, Lu Huai was beaten, and Princess Zhaoyang used a pot of tea as an excuse to assert her dominance over her.

She said she had known Lu Huai since she was five, while Qin Xi hadn't even met him by the time she was fifteen. She didn't feel anything then, and she certainly wouldn't now.

Qin Xi gently stroked her belly, a subtle smile playing on her lips. Now that she had a husband and a child, what was there to complain about? All she had to do was wait for him to come and take her back, and they would be reunited.

She wasn't in a hurry; after all, there was plenty of time. As long as she knew that he was also striving to get closer to her, that was enough.

Princess Zhaoyang, having snapped out of her reverie at some point, sat to the side, looking at her curiously. "Miss Qin? What are you thinking about?"

Qin Xi snapped out of her thoughts and shook her head at her, "It's nothing."

Princess Zhaoyang: "Oh."

Qin Xi felt that this stalemate wasn't going to work, so she decided to be frank. She lowered her head and took a sip of tea, "May I ask what brings Your Highness the Princess here?"

She didn't think they were close enough to warrant a special visit.

Seemingly surprised by her question, Princess Zhaoyang paused for a moment. Then she smiled and gently shook her head, "Miss Qin, you don't need to think too much. As I just said, I just had some free time and wanted to have a private chat with you."

Qin Xi remained silent; she didn't think they could possibly have anything nice to say to each other. The person in front of her was the one who most wanted to harm her. She wasn't so bored as to reconcile with her mortal enemy.

Princess Zhaoyang looked at her with a smile, "You look much fuller than before."

Qin Xi: "Thank you for your concern, you too."

"..."

The perfunctory tone was too obvious. Princess Zhaoyang was taken aback, then shook her head helplessly. Qin Qi was extremely wary of her and didn't even bother to say a word to her.

This is not a good sign.

Princess Zhaoyang thought for a moment, then rephrased her words and said, "I heard from the imperial physician that pregnant women should eat more nourishing foods, which are good for the fetus."

Qin Xi: "Thank you for your concern, I understand."

"..."
