Lu Huai reached out and picked it up, the icy touch immediately entering his palm. He flipped it over, and saw two words written on the back—
Cicheng.
"Tiger Tally?" Lu Huai frowned and looked at Qin Huaiyan opposite him.
Qin Huaiyan nodded, "That's right. This is the Cicheng Tiger Tally, which can command any troops in Cicheng, Licheng, and Ducheng. It's useless for me, a mere prefect, to hold it. Having heard of my brother-in-law's grand plan, I'm handing it over to him now, which is a way of not letting it down."
Licheng and Ducheng are subordinate cities of Cicheng, and are considered the two smallest cities in Yu Kingdom. Although small, they are quite prosperous due to their proximity to Cicheng and not far from the capital, and presumably have a large military force.
In the vast Yu Kingdom, only Cicheng had an affiliated city, and therefore only Cicheng possessed the Tiger Tally. The governors of the other cities, although they had handed over their troops to General Qin, either declined or only gave him half of their troops.
If we're talking about someone as straightforward as Qin Ci, it's really hard to find another like him.
Lu Huai hesitated for a moment, then did not refuse. Instead, he held the tiger tally tightly in his hand, looked up at him, and said, "I won't thank you for your great kindness. Consider it a favor I owe you."
Qin Huaiyan was stunned, seemingly not expecting him to say that.
After a moment, he shook his head and said gently, "Brother-in-law, there's no need for that. My father and uncle are brothers from the same bloodline, and my uncle treated my father and Huaiyan very well. Especially after my father passed away, it was my uncle who took good care of Huaiyan. If it weren't for my uncle, I'm afraid Huaiyan would have starved to death on the streets long ago."
“Uncle saved my life. I have no way to repay him, so I can only do my best. I hope my brother-in-law will not find it offensive.” He said gently, “After the matter in Cicheng is settled, I will go to the capital to visit him.”
Qin Huaiyan smiled and said, "Although I haven't spent much time with my sister, and haven't seen her much since she grew up, she's a very good person. Brother-in-law, please don't mistreat her."
Lu Huai nodded steadily, "Definitely."
"That's good."
...
...
When Qin Xi opened her eyes, she was still a little weak. She raised her hand uncomfortably to shield her eyes from the light and called out, "Zi Hui."
Her voice was terribly hoarse, and her throat was also a little sore.
As soon as she finished speaking, Shu Hua opened the door and came in. Upon seeing her, Shu Hua seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, "Yizhi, you're finally awake."
She poured a glass of warm water on the table and handed it to Qin Xi, saying, "Quickly moisten your throat."
"Hmm." Qin Xi took the water glass and sipped it slowly, her throat finally feeling much better.
Shu Hua put the water glass back on the table. "Are you feeling better?"
Qin Qi gave a soft "hmm," then, as if suddenly remembering something, asked her, "Where's the child?"
Shu Hua glared at her, "You, as a mother, only now realized the child is missing after all this time. No wonder Lu Huai is so worried."
Before she could finish speaking, Qin Qi lowered her eyes.
Shu Hua realized she had said the wrong thing and scolded herself in frustration before daring to glance at Qin Xi.
"Lu Huai... has he come back?" Qin Xi pursed her lips and asked softly.
"This..." Shu Hua looked away guiltily, "I heard it's already on its way!"
Qin Xi looked at her with clear eyes and smiled, "Well, that's good. I'll be able to see him soon."
Seeing that she was no longer dwelling on the matter, Shu Hua breathed a sigh of relief, took the baby out of the cradle, and then sat down on the edge of the bed.
"Here." She carefully placed the child in Qin Xi's arms, then gently withdrew her hand.
