What were once jests about what would happen after death have now come to pass.

Lu Huai... perhaps he has already gone to the palace with the invitation?

If she doesn't go soon, she will not only miss the start of the event, but she may also miss the opportunity to spend time alone with Prime Minister Qin.

Bringing her thoughts back, Qin Xi pursed her lips and slowly nodded: "In that case, thank you very much, Your Highness."

The fourth prince breathed a sigh of relief, and a bright smile finally appeared on his lips.

...

"Giddy up!" Lu Huai, who was speeding down the street, kept whipping the whip, wishing he could go faster and faster, because Qin Xi did not have an invitation, and even her maid was slowly chasing after her.

If anything unexpected happens...

Lu Huai's heart tightened at the thought that someone wanted to harm her. However, when he arrived, this was the scene he saw.

A dashing young man in white was talking to the woman beside him, his eyes filled with her. A smile he couldn't hide played on his lips; though his face wasn't visible, his joy was palpable.

The woman wore a red dress, her black hair styled in a traditional Chinese updo, yet it couldn't conceal her stunning beauty. Her waist was simply adorned with a sachet, adding a touch of earthy charm to her appearance.

Seemingly having heard what he said, the woman lowered her head and smiled in a very cooperative manner, her beauty captivating in an instant.

The most tender moment was when she lowered her head, like a water lily shyly trembling in the cool breeze.

What should have been an enviable scene turned into a somber expression on Lu Huai's face. The reason was simple: the seemingly perfect couple in everyone's eyes were none other than the Fourth Prince and Qin Xi.

His eyes were dark and unfathomable, as if he were thinking something.

He stood there staring at them for a long time until the two disappeared around the corner. Only then did Lu Huai withdraw his gaze, close his eyes, as if he didn't want to see this glaring scene anymore.

However, the moment he closed his eyes, that pair of backs was suddenly imprinted in his mind. He took a few deep breaths to suppress the turbulent emotions in his heart, and then walked quickly over, taking a detour to the Hall of Preserving Harmony.

...

...

The Fourth Prince had to go to Phoenix Palace, so the two parted ways in the Imperial Garden. Before leaving, the Fourth Prince pursed his lips and said with heartache, "Sister Qi, if you suffer any injustice... feel free to come to me, I will definitely protect you."

Qin Xi was startled by his words. She was already a married woman; how could she go looking for him again? If she really did that, she was afraid she would never be able to clear her name, no matter what.

Thinking of this, she frowned slightly and emphasized, "Your Highness, please don't say such things anymore. It will only do us harm."

The Fourth Prince was taken aback, realizing he had misspoke; he shouldn't have said it in such a crowded place. He sighed softly, said nothing more, simply told her to go to the Hall of Preserving Harmony by herself, and then turned and left.

Seeing him leave, Qin Qi also headed towards the Hall of Preserving Harmony. Just as she reached the flower garden, she saw Lu Huai standing at the entrance of the hall, waiting for someone, she wondered.

Qin Xi paused, pursed her lips, and prepared to pretend she hadn't seen him, but was still stopped by his voice as she passed by.

"Stop." Lu Huai stood with his hands behind his back, panting heavily, his forehead covered in a fine layer of sweat, as if he had just finished exercising.

Is he... very tired?

Qin Xi looked at him with a puzzled expression.

Noticing her gaze, Lu Huai's heart sank. He pulled out a silk handkerchief and wiped the sweat away before looking at the person beside him: "Where did you go?"

Hearing him ask that, Qin Xi suddenly felt like laughing.

Shouldn't she be the one saying that?
