His calm and composed tone eased some of the Emperor Yuming's frustration. His answer was similar to that of the Fourth Prince, yet it did not cause him any agitation.
"Hmm, you're right." Emperor Yuming nodded and gave him an approving look.
The eldest prince humbly lowered his head, satisfying Emperor Yuming's immense desire for power.
The fourth prince glanced at him gratefully, seemingly thanking him for helping him and the third prince out of a predicament.
The second prince sneered from the side.
His elder brother was adept at pleasing their father. Even if the words were essentially the same, they sounded better coming from his mouth.
He didn't think the eldest prince was particularly benevolent. His ability to win the hearts of the people was not simply due to his love for them. Only he himself probably knew the truth.
Only the fourth son is truly kind-hearted and charitable.
The eldest prince often accompanied him, and the two of them did good deeds together. The fourth prince always paid for everything out of his own pocket, but in the end, all the credit went to the eldest prince.
Only his fourth brother, that fool, would think that the eldest prince was speaking up for him.
"Second brother, what do you have to say about this?" Emperor Yuming glanced at him, his expression unreadable.
The second prince quickly came to his senses: "Your Majesty, I think what you say is absolutely right."
Emperor Yuming nodded with great authority: "In that case, let's not rush to a conclusion. This matter will be entirely handled by the Court of Judicial Review."
After saying that, he looked at the Third Prince and said, "The Third Prince is under suspicion. Let the Second Prince temporarily take charge of the territory. Do you have any objections?"
The second prince looked up upon hearing this, secretly pleased.
The third prince lowered his head, his hands clenched into fists and then relaxed.
He was never favored by Emperor Yuming, and few of the court officials thought highly of him. He was confident in his abilities, but no one was willing to support him.
This punishment may not seem severe, but who knows when the Dali Temple will be able to uncover the truth and clear his name? Even after half a month, the people of North Street will no longer recognize him and will only recognize the Second Prince.
He had finally gotten this opportunity, this chance to show himself, and yet he had let it slip by. How could he not hate it!
But Emperor Yuming had already spoken, and there was no chance to refute him.
He could only shake his head dejectedly and say as if in resignation, "Your subject will obey your father's teachings."
"Hmm." Emperor Yuming nodded, then looked at the fourth prince beside him: "Fourth prince, this matter occurred in your jurisdiction, which shows that you have failed in your management. How about you assign it to the eldest prince for temporary management?"
He paused, seemingly realizing that this was a bit too much for the Fourth Prince, and added, "It's only temporary. You know your eldest brother has always been kind and benevolent, and would never take even a penny from you."
The fourth prince had little need for this and no desire for the throne; he was only heartbroken for the dead people and hoped that the truth could be found out as soon as possible.
The eldest brother is the most capable among his brothers. If this matter is entrusted to him, he will surely be able to resolve it perfectly.
He refused to believe that the Third Prince had done this to make him lose the Emperor's favor; they were brothers, after all.
Thinking this, he nodded in agreement: "Your subject has no objection and will follow Your Majesty's teachings."
The second prince was rather displeased. Why was the North Street, the poorest of the several streets, assigned to him, while the South Street was given to the first prince?
Isn't this a clear indication that the prince is being given more importance?
He pursed his lips, but dared not say more. He could only express his gratitude together with the eldest prince: "Your subject will certainly not fail Your Majesty's grace."
Emperor Yuming at least said some polite words to the fourth prince, but he barely even glanced at the third prince.
The difference is quite significant.
