008 Bandaging
Li Yang's mother was cooking in the kitchen. When she saw Li Yang come over, she quickly asked if he needed anything.
Li Yang waved her hand: "Aunt Chen, you should go and rest. Brother Jing didn't eat well for dinner, I'll cook him a bowl of noodles."
This kind of thing had happened many times before, and Chen's mother was already used to it. She smiled and said, "Second Young Master is really lucky. With you taking such good care of him, he will surely recover soon."
Li Yang smiled and said gently, "This is my duty. I just hope that Brother Jing can recover."
Mrs. Chen praised them a few more times before leaving with a smile along with the other mothers in the kitchen.
Li Yang spent most of the hour making a bowl of plain noodles, Yuan Chongjing's favorite dish, and steamed egg custard in separate bowls of different sizes. She then added sesame oil and finely chopped scallions on top before calling her maid, "Xia He, go and take this to Brother Jing and Xiao Taozi."
Xia He helped her place the bowls on the wooden tray: "Young Madam, aren't you coming along? The Second Young Master might be waiting for you." This was a great opportunity to show off!
“I’m not going,” Li Yang said, taking off her apron. “I suddenly have a little idea about the wood carving, I’ll give it a try. By the way, don’t tell Jing Ge. If he asks, just say I went to see my mother.”
Just now, while kneading the dough, she suddenly understood the issue of 'force' that the woodcarver had mentioned, and wanted to try it again.
Sometimes we have to admit that once the initial accumulation reaches a certain level, those so-called "enlightenment" happens in an instant.
Li Yang held the carving knife, and the pine wood beneath her left hand seemed to come alive, quickly taking on a rough outline in her grasp. She became increasingly adept, her movements faster and faster, almost to the point of complete absorption.
Until her palms became sweaty, causing the round wooden carving in her hand to slip, the carving knife in her right hand slid down and landed on the fingertip of her left index finger.
At first, Li Yang didn't feel any pain. Numb, she stared blankly as the knife sliced open the soft flesh on her fingertip, and bright red blood rushed out of the wound. She couldn't find her handkerchief on her person, and then remembered that she had taken it to wipe her sweat in the kitchen earlier, but Xia He had taken it to wash it.
The wound was still bleeding, and Li Yang used her other four intact fingers, along with her right hand, to try to tear a strip of cloth off her clothes.
Unfortunately, it didn't work.
The clothes were of exceptionally good quality; she exerted force, but the collar remained as sturdy as ever.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the tea that the two of them had left on the table that afternoon. Li Yang rinsed it briefly with water, wrapped her index finger with the corner of her clothes, sat down again, raised her index finger, and used her other fingers to hold the wood carving in place, and began to practice her knife skills again.
Only then did Li Yang feel the waves of pain coming from her fingertips. To be even clearer, she could feel the tiny blood vessels throbbing violently at the two halves of flesh that had been cut.
The blood stained the corner of her clothes that covered her index finger, making it particularly glaring against her light-colored clothes.
Li Yang stood up, intending to go to the pharmacy in the manor to find some wound medicine to apply.
Perhaps due to the rapid bleeding, or perhaps due to sitting for a long time and then suddenly standing up, Li Yang felt a sudden darkness before her eyes, and her whole body swayed as if she were about to fall into an abyss.
Then a strong arm supported her.
Leaning against his chest, Li Yang finally felt her heart, which had been beating wildly, stabilize somewhat.
She lowered her head to hide the smug smile on her lips, then looked up in surprise: "Brother Jing, what brings you here?"
Yuan Chongjing helped her sit down, then took a celadon porcelain bottle from his sleeve and tossed it onto her lap: "What good will rinsing with water do for an injury..."
He realized that by saying that, he was essentially admitting that he had been secretly watching for a long time, so he immediately changed his words: "Apply it yourself!"
Li Yang didn't take his words to heart and picked up the porcelain bottle to apply the medicine. But she couldn't get any strength in her hands, so she looked around and then bent down to bite the cork off the bottle.
Yuan Chongjing immediately snatched it away, scolding, "That's medicine! How can you eat it? Did you cut your head with a knife too?!"
Li Yang wasn't angry after he yelled at her. She obediently stretched out her injured left hand and placed it on his leg, raising her index finger as she waited for him to apply the medicine.
With a dark expression, Yuan Chongjing pulled out the stopper, haphazardly poured some powder onto her index finger, and then wrapped it with a handkerchief.
The whole process was quick and swift, leaving me feeling rather flustered and disoriented.
Li Yang waved her hand, holding his bandaged index finger with her right hand, and leaned out to ask him with a smile, "You still haven't told me, why didn't you go to sleep so late? What are you doing here? Did you eat my plain noodles and steamed egg custard and thought the taste was familiar, so you wanted to come and talk to me?"
Yuan Chongjing bent down to pick up his carving knife and wooden block, and said in a muffled voice, "Stop flattering yourself."
Li Yang didn't call him out on it: "Where's Little Peach? Is she asleep?"
Yuan Chongjing hummed in agreement, and seeing that she was about to touch the carving knife again, he paused for a moment and said, "Go and rest, I'll take care of things here."
"Ha! I caught you! You still say you're not concerned about me!" Li Yang said excitedly.
Yuan Chongjing froze for a moment, his facial muscles contorting slightly with embarrassment and anger. He retorted loudly, "Who cares about you? I'm just worried that your finger will get cut off and Little Peach will cry and be a nuisance!"
Li Yang put down her carving knife, sat down beside him, and quietly watched his movements: "I won't do it. I'll just watch you. You're so skilled, you're sure to impress me, right?"
As she spoke, she watched his hands move more and more nimbly in response to her words. Li Yang, worried that he might get hurt like she had, added, "Brother Jing, be careful, don't cut your fingers again. It's okay, even if you don't do it perfectly, just having you sitting here is enough to make my eyes light up and my heart flutter!"
Yuan Chongjing hesitated for a moment, but couldn't help it: "Go back to sleep, you're bothering me here."
Li Yang immediately pursed her lips and pretended to be obedient: "Then I won't say anything."
“You can influence me just by sitting here without saying a word.”
Li Yang's smile immediately brightened: "Really, Brother Jing? Have I had such a big impact on you? Have you fallen for me again?"
Yuan Chongjing: "..." Life is full of traps, and he has fallen into Li Yang's trap again.
"I'm not doing this anymore, I'm going back to sleep." Yuan Chongjing put down the knife and the wooden block, and stood up dejectedly. Li Yang has become so smart now, he needs to think carefully about how to beat her next.
Li Yang also stood up, her little feet bouncing excitedly in place: "Sleeping is good, sleeping is good, let's go back to sleep!"
Without even thinking, Yuan Chongjing knew what was going on in her little head. He scolded, "I'll sleep in my own bed, you sleep in yours. Don't have any wishful thinking!"
"What do you mean?!" Li Yang stopped, looked at him innocently, and said with a righteous but coquettish tone, "Oh, Brother Jing, what are you thinking? You're not feeling well right now. Even if you wanted to, I wouldn't allow you to do such strenuous exercise!"
"....."
He must have been out of his mind to come looking for her!
