Chapter 4 "I will repay you well, young lady..."

Chapter 4 "I will repay you well, young lady..."

"Young lady, you have no affinity for immortality. You might as well give up now."

"If someone like you can cultivate immortality, then where are all the mortals in the world? Wouldn't everyone be an immortal lord or fairy?"

The thunder roared in her ears, yet she seemed to hear even more sounds. Each sound left an indelible mark on her heart, one she would never forget.

Has she resigned herself to her fate? She says she has.

But every wisp of spiritual energy flowing through her bones and veins was gritting its teeth, telling her she shouldn't admit it.

The raging flames on the longbow went out. In their place was a layer of floating air. The bowstring seemed to contain a tremendous force.

She aimed the arrow at the snow demon.

The snow demon withdrew her foot, and the ice spikes chased after her again. This time, however, it didn't intend to crush the young man on the ground itself, but instead used ice silk to suspend him.

The ice silk wrapped around the young man's neck, and soon his originally porcelain-white cheeks turned bluish-purple, and he was in great pain.

The arrows nocked on the bowstring became two.

It shot out the instant she was blocked by the ice wall.

One arrow severed the ice thread, while the other struck the young man's shoulder, the new wound covering the old one.

The arrow sent the young man flying more than ten meters.

The snow demon's pale blue eyes seemed to deepen in an instant. It looked up at her, and the surrounding air seemed to be frozen by the snow.

The icicles grew wildly, and with every step she took, several new icicles would burst from the ground beneath her, leaving streaks of blood on her body.

Finally, the ice wall blocked her way and cut off her path. Then, an ice spike pierced her thigh and pinned her in mid-air with a soft thud!

Her face was pale. She raised her hand and shot an arrow at the ground, using the force of the arrow to free herself, leap over the ice wall, and landed next to the snow demon.

The snow demon's killing intent intensified. Countless ice spikes rose into the air, flying towards her with the overwhelming force of falling stars.

She quickly stood up, and before the excruciating pain could even register, her will to survive compelled her to draw her bow and fire an arrow at the monster.

The pale yellow hem of the garment was now being used to draw strange characters in crimson blood, and that crimson blood seemed to be burning the entire snowy region to ashes!

"Lightning-summoning talisman".

Of all the countless talismans, this was the only one she could successfully draw. She could even succeed on any material.

Her mother had taught her, but she never learned it. Later, her mother passed away, and she tried countless times before finally succeeding.

With a soft "plop," the snow demon's mournful cry filled the air.

The thunder that shook the entire land of eternal slumber finally struck, with a small portion hitting Meng Chiwan precisely, nearly causing her to faint, while the majority was drawn into the snow demon, piercing through the hem of its clothing and penetrating its entire body.

The snow demon's mournful cries almost drowned out the thunder, fog enveloped the mountain, and rain came unexpectedly.

Meng Chiwan stood there, her stubborn yet cold face flushed with the moisture of new life. She stood there, her knees and legs poised to kneel, blood still dripping from her lips, as if she had tamed something.

The last embers melted the remaining icicle on the young man's shoulder.

Then it crashed down.

She finally completed the introductory course that had been shrouding her for years and took her first step on the path of cultivating immortality.

The young man in the distance leaned against a tree with difficulty, watching the icicles in the sky melt into water, watching the mortal shoot an arrow at him from afar, watching the icicles on his shoulder fall into the rain, and watching her fall heavily to the ground.

He closed his eyes, and a sudden sharp pain shot through his mind. Then, he covered the wound on his shoulder, trying to dispel the warmth that had seeped into his bones.

Then he looked up, pointed his damp knuckles at her, and a green wisp flew from his fingertip.

Then they heard the girl cough a few times in the distance, and then she fell into a deep sleep, completely unaware of the transparent barrier that had grown beside her.

...

It's probably the underworld. Or perhaps the legendary heaven and earth.

The pain in my body gradually and inexplicably dissipated.

The mountain between Meng Chiwan's brows rose and fell, and she felt a chill creeping into her body before she slowly opened her eyes.

The wounds on her body didn't seem to hurt as much as she had expected. But she didn't remember having such a strong self-healing ability.

But she didn't dwell on it too much; instead, she immediately spotted the snow demon's corpse not far away.

The snow demon's once beautiful fur was now covered in mottled, charred black patches, some of which had turned to water.

After the snow demon dies, it will soon turn into snow water and merge into the earth, leaving no trace.

Therefore, if you want to dig out a demon core, you must do so shortly after the creature dies. If you miss the opportunity, the demon core will dissolve along with the corpse.

Now, the corpse is still there, and the demon core has not yet dissipated.

She took out a short dagger, wiped the dust and blood off the blade, and walked towards the snow demon with heavy, slow steps, as if she were entering an execution ground filled with wronged souls.

She raised her knife against it.

This time, it's to save myself.

She carefully wiped the demon core with the hem of her clothes until there was no trace of blood on it before swallowing it like a pill. However, she was still choked by the strong bloody smell left on it, which brought tears to her eyes.

Strands of spiritual energy flowed through her meridians, as if trying to twist into a rope, yet unable to. That spiritual energy was slowly repairing her body, and she could feel her body, which felt like it was crawling with bookworms, gradually recovering.

Her gaze then shifted to the young man.

The young man seemed to have moved to a more comfortable spot to lean against. The blood from his wound had dried somewhat, but some dark, bright red blood still clung wetly to his shoulder. It must have been the Snow Demon Core he had fed her earlier that was taking effect.

Looking at his porcelain-white face, she couldn't help but wonder why this immortal lord seemed to have no self-healing abilities whatsoever, and even now he still needed her to carry him down the mountain. Could it be some hidden ailment that even a demon core couldn't cure?

Although she couldn't understand it, she had no reason to abandon him halfway.

She carried him on her back and trudged down the mountain. Despite his thin frame, he seemed to have inexhaustible strength.

If another accident like this were to happen, she would truly be helpless.

Fortunately, she didn't encounter any monsters or demons along the way. Just as she was wondering about this, she saw a barrier rising in the distance.

That barrier had already covered halfway up the mountain.

Upon seeing a group of white-robed cultivators, the doubts that had been troubling her vanished instantly. No wonder she had only encountered snow demons along the way; the low-level demonic beasts seemed to have disappeared.

But a new question arose in her mind. This mountain had been plagued by demons for years, so why was it suddenly being controlled and suppressed? Was it a coincidence, or had something happened in the mountain?

She pondered it over and over again, and finally concluded that it had little to do with her, and even if it did, there was nothing she could do about it.

As they approached the foot of the mountain, getting closer and closer to the group of cultivators, they could finally see that the cultivators were gradually weaving a magic array, which expanded little by little like a spider web.

There was a small opening, just big enough for one person to pass through, between the magic circles.

Without thinking much, she stepped across the gap.

"You are just a mortal... no, someone who has just reached the Qi Refining stage. Why would you risk your life to go up the mountain?" The young man guarding the door suddenly spoke, with a sword on his back and a vermilion flower mark on his forehead. "And you even made yourself look like this."

"To make a living." She stopped in her tracks. "I'm about to die, hasn't the Immortal Lord noticed?"

The young man frowned and turned his gaze to her. Her pale yellow dress was now covered in blood, with mud and snow water clinging to the hem. Her face was also deathly pale, as if she was about to faint at any moment. She was in a terrible state.

He was about to speak when he said, "I have some pills here, you can use them first..."

But before he could finish speaking, his gaze shifted to the person on her back, and then his eyes widened in surprise, his tone becoming tense: "Who is that person on your back?"

Having heard this clearly, she put the young man down from her back and then said, word by word, "This man encountered a snow demon and was injured, so I carried him down. Does anyone here recognize him?"

"Whether I know him or not is another matter, but I'm worried that this person isn't some kind of immortal... Miss, you may not know, but on this mountain... no, I don't think you're necessarily a young lady either." The young man took a few steps back, wanting to explain, but ultimately felt something was amiss and dared not come forward.

Meng Chiwan remained silent for a moment, then took a deep breath and said patiently, "Little Immortal Lord, please see clearly. Before I went up the mountain to gather herbs, I was indeed a mortal. It was only because of some unforeseen events that I am in this state now. If the Immortal Lord has any way to prove that I am not a bad person, I am willing to cooperate fully."

Her tone was clear and her logic was smooth. After a few words, the young boy was about to believe her, but he couldn't let go and make a decision yet. Just then, another boy came over. He had a handsome face, but two thick eyebrows stood across his forehead, making him look somewhat old-fashioned and serious.

“Wait. Both of them together…” He spoke as he walked over, but then suddenly stopped, his gaze momentarily clouding, before continuing, “Let them go. I don’t see any trace of that thing on either of them.”

She paused, a strange feeling flashing through her mind, but she still carried the young man on her back, thinking that perhaps she should leave him here. This place was full of disciples of immortal sects, which seemed better than him coming back with her.

Before she could speak, warm breath brushed against her neck. The person behind her seemed to sense her intention and suddenly woke up, their voice low and deep, with a slightly lingering tone: "I don't know them... I'm... a rogue cultivator, please take me back, young lady... I'm not a bad person... I will repay you well, young lady..."

He rested his head on her shoulder, his hair falling onto her arm, causing a slight tickle.

A note from the author:

"I will be good to the girl." [pill]
