Chapter 398 You're not worthy!
When Nangong Mingzhen and Yu Sui started fighting, Han Ziyang was the first to panic.
After he became the Destroyer, almost every empathy he experienced was triggered by Yu Sui. Although Yu Sui did it intentionally a few times, it still left Han Ziyang with the impression that "she is weak," "fragile," and "easy to die."
Han Ziyang had never seen Nangong Ming get angry, but he was certain that Nangong Ming and Nangong Sui were not a father and daughter with a deep affection for each other.
What if this unlucky guy gets hit by a Fireball on the spot and develops a sympathetic connection?
Han Ziyang appeared just in time and used the matter of the Heavenly Punishment Bloodline to lure Nangong Ming away.
As soon as Han Binggang led Yu Sui out of the council hall, Cao Yan and the others came up and said, "Princess, the Prince has ordered that you cannot leave the Prince's residence for the time being."
This can be considered a form of house arrest.
Yu Sui didn't seem angry. She simply responded casually and walked straight towards her courtyard.
She had only taken two steps forward when the mute woman waiting in the distance approached. Yu Sui glanced at her, a hint of a smile in her eyes, only to see the mute woman using sign language: "Madam requests your presence."
The smile in Yu Sui's eyes faded.
“Let’s go,” she said.
The mute woman walked ahead, leading the way, without saying much.
The others watched Yu Sui walk away but did not follow.
Sheng Fei was still immersed in Mei Liangyu's complicated background. Judging from Yu Sui's appearance when she came out, she must have found out. So what should she do?
"Young Master!" Someone called out to Han Bing and handed him a small mailbox.
Han Bing opened the letter and saw that it read, "His Majesty already knows about Mei Liangyu's background."
His Majesty not only knows Mei Liangyu's background, but also knows that Zhonglishan and Mei Liangyu have a very good relationship at Taiyi Academy. The two often act together and are good brothers who have gone through thick and thin together.
Now that it has been confirmed that Mei Liangyu is the child of the Princess of Yan, the overly close relationship between Zhongli Shan and Mei Liangyu is the reason why His Majesty is trying to control the Zhongli family.
Mei Liangyu's background was revealed by the Nangong family. In Nangong Ming's view, Zhongli Shan's friendship with Mei Liangyu could be interpreted as the Zhongli family having ulterior motives, while his daughter's good relationship with Mei Liangyu provided her with a position that would be advantageous for their actions.
But if Emperor Qingyang knew that the Nangong family's daughter was still deeply in love with Mei Liangyu, then his dissatisfaction and suspicion would not only extend to the Zhongli family, but also to the Nangong family.
The attendant whispered to Han Bing, "The Zhongli family has hidden a wanted criminal brought back from Taiyi. His Majesty has already sent the Golden Armor Army to the Zhongli family to arrest him."
Previously, when the Criminal Investigation Department went to arrest people, they were stopped outside by the General's Mansion. Now, the Golden Armor Army, acting on the Emperor's decree, has come to arrest people, and Zhongli Ci can no longer stop them.
"Where is the Golden Armor Army?" Han Bing asked.
The attendant said, "We just left the palace."
Han Bing: "Who's leading the team?"
Attendant: "Gu Jun, Commandant Gu."
After hearing this, Han Bing glanced at Chu Jin, who had already left not far away.
“Keep following him.” He finished speaking and walked outside. “Check again where Mr. Han has been these past few days and who he has met.”
In no time, most of the people who had been waiting outside the corridor to watch the excitement had left.
Su Feng figured he wouldn't see Yu Sui for a while, so he looked down at the Listening Wind Ruler and asked Sheng Fei, "Do you want to go see your grandmother?"
Sheng Fei said coldly, "If you want to pay your respects to your grandmother, go by yourself."
“My mother is over there,” Su Feng said. “She’s having tea with my grandmother, admiring the flowers, and listening to her teachings.”
Sheng Fei frowned, a hint of impatience in his eyes: "I don't really want to go and pay my respects to Second Aunt."
Su Feng looked up and raised his eyebrows, saying, "Yan Xiaochuan, who came back from Taiyi, is also with Grandmother."
Upon hearing this, Sheng Fei felt as if the whole world had gone upside down and gone mad.
"……who?"
“Yan Xiaochuan, your junior brother from Taiyi Academy,” Su Feng said. “He can also be considered a child of the Nangong family. You can treat him as another younger brother.”
Sheng Fei wanted to say, "Are you crazy?" but he couldn't see a hint of a joke on Su Feng's face.
Seeing Sheng Fei's incredulous expression, Su Feng paused and added, "A distant cousin."
Sheng Fei took a deep breath, pressing down on his twitching temple: "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Are you going or not?" Su Feng asked.
Sheng Fei didn't reply, but instead turned and walked out first.
...
Madam Su stood by the window, looking at the bamboo shadows and stone wall in the courtyard. Today, the sunlight was dazzling, like scattered gold leaf, outlining slender shapes on the wall.
She held the medicine bowl in both hands, warming her cold palms, and frowned as she listened to the maid, Ah Chun, report the situation in the council hall in a low voice.
Hearing Yu Sui ridicule Sheng Fei and contradict Nangong Ming in front of everyone, Madam Su's beautiful and delicate brows furrowed even more deeply.
That's incredibly foolish.
Having acquired the power of the Nine Ranks Technique, are you so eager to reveal your arrogant and overbearing true colors?
Before Madam Su could learn that Yu Sui and Nangong Ming had almost gotten into a fight, the mute woman and her group came to announce that the princess had arrived.
"Let her in," Madam Su said softly.
Ah Chun bowed her head and withdrew to greet Yu Sui outside. Ah Chun saw a girl standing under a clump of green bamboo. She lowered her head slightly, as if waiting, but one could also see the boredom in her eyes.
"Princess, please come in." Ah Chun met the girl's gaze and subconsciously softened her tone.
Yu Sui walked past A Chun and went inside, stopping under the eaves. She called out, "I heard that your health is getting worse, Mother. I just came back and haven't washed away the dust yet. I'm afraid of bringing you bad luck, so I won't go in. Mother, I'll just listen from outside."
Madam Su paused, then looked through the crack in the lattice window at the girl standing under the eaves.
Her expression was calm, without a trace of arrogance, but the former caution and gentle intimacy were gone.
Has the youngest daughter changed a lot?
Madam Su couldn't tell.
She thought the girl in front of her knew nothing and was unaware of the life-or-death choice that lay between them.
...But did she really know nothing at all?
Silence fell over the courtyard. A gentle morning breeze stirred the bamboo shadows, which swayed silently. The mute woman, Ah Chun, and the others waited behind Yu Sui, heads bowed and silent.
After a long pause, Madam Su pursed her lips and asked, "I heard that you were scolded by the Prince as soon as you returned."
Yu Sui smiled gently and said, "I didn't recognize my elder sister. I thought she was an unruly subordinate, so I scolded her a couple of times. Father pointed it out to me and I realized that my elder sister's arm was perfectly fine. I can't mistake her missing arm for her mark anymore."
Madam Su's forehead twitched as she listened, her heart pounding, but she forcibly suppressed her emotions.
"You did this on purpose?" Madam Su asked in a deep voice.
“Why must you make malicious assumptions, Mother? That’s exactly what I heard in Taiyi. At the Golden Pearl Banquet, all the daughters of noble families from various countries knew that my sister had her arm cut off by General Zhongli. I only learned that I had a sister from them. If you had told me earlier, Mother, I wouldn’t have made that mistake.”
Yu Sui's words carried a hint of complaint.
Madam Su, however, was only concerned about her eldest daughter's reputation and the humiliation she suffered at the Golden Pearl Banquet.
"Don't mention this again," Madam Su said unhappily.
Yu Sui did not answer.
Madam Su then asked, "Do you know about your senior brother Mei Liangyu's background?"
Yu Sui said, "I know."
Lady Su asked, "Has Mei Liangyu ever mentioned the Yan Kingdom to you?"
Yu Sui tilted her head slightly, as if thinking and recalling, and asked, "Mother, what are you referring to?"
Without waiting for Madam Su's reply, she continued, "Senior brother has said quite a lot. I don't know which matter you want to hear about."
"He told you about your relationship with Yan Manfeng, the agricultural sage of Yan State, and also about your betrayal of Yan State, your seizure of the Breath Soil that killed many Yan State soldiers and sorcerers of the Hundred Farmers Hall. Those were your fellow disciples who grew up with you and had risked their lives with you."
Madam Su's fingers tightened and turned white as she held the medicine bowl. Her already sickly and weak face was now covered with a layer of cold sweat. Familiar yet unfamiliar faces involuntarily flashed through her mind.
"Mother, do you know the Princess of Yan and the others? I heard that Yan Manfeng likes to play chess with others, and you are the one who often plays chess with him. After you left, the Princess and her children are the ones who accompany Yan Manfeng to play chess in their spare time."
"I heard that you and Yan Manfeng grew up together and were fellow disciples with a deep relationship. After you went to Qingyang, was he worried about whether you could adapt to the climate and food of Qingyang, or was he angry that you killed his friends and people?"
"That's not what I want to hear!" Madam Su snapped coldly, her pale fingertips touching the slightly cracked jade-white porcelain bowl. She took a deep breath, walked around the long table, and headed outside.
She walked to the doorway and looked coldly at the girl standing under the eaves.
Hearing the noise, Yu Sui raised her head, her calm eyes meeting those deep, dark pupils.
Madam Su said coldly, "Do you think that just because you know about the past, you can use it as leverage to threaten me?"
"Why would I threaten you?" Yu Sui laughed. "You can cruelly abandon your country, betray your closest senior brother, and choose to be a heartless and ruthless person. How could I expect these things to threaten you?"
“Nangong Sui,” Madam Su’s gaze turned completely cold, a hint of anger flashing in her dark eyes, “do you speak with such confidence because of the lowly techniques you briefly possessed?”
"Mother, you asked me first," Yu Sui said innocently. "Wasn't what I said true? Why are you angry?"
Just as Madam Su opened her mouth, the girl standing in the sunlight said impatiently, "You've tormented me for so long because of that half of the Breath Soil. Shouldn't I be the one who's angry?"
Upon hearing this, both the mute woman and Ah Chun paused, their heads bowing even lower.
Yu Sui looked directly into Madam Su's eyes and saw the astonishment in them: "Just now in the council hall, Father asked me if I would be willing to die for you if you needed half of the Breath Soil in my body to be cured."
Madam Su was caught off guard by Yu Sui's words. Her fingers stiffened, and the medicine bowl she was holding suddenly fell to the ground and shattered. The soup splashed onto her skirt, staining the white fabric with a thick, bitter color.
“Madam.” Ah Chun hurriedly stepped forward.
Madam Su pushed her aside, stared at Yu Sui, and asked in a trembling voice, "What did you say?"
Yu Sui's gaze shifted from the broken medicine bowl on the ground to Madam Su's trembling eyes, and she said in a low voice, "Do you even deserve it?"
Ah Chun and the others looked at Yu Sui in surprise. Madam Su's face turned pale as she listened to the girl continue, "Do you think I'm worthy of dying for you after what you've done over the past ten years?"
Madam Su gripped her sleeves tightly, her breath coming in short gasps. The girl's indifferent voice and calm expression made it seem as if she had done nothing wrong, but Madam Su felt as if she had been slapped hard across the face by her youngest daughter, and she felt humiliated.
“Madam,” Ah Chun hurriedly supported Madam Su, who was feeling dizzy and leaning back, and said to Yu Sui, “Princess, you, you…”
The mute woman stepped forward and said to Yu Sui, "Princess, please leave first."
Yu Sui turned to leave, but Madam Su shouted sternly, "Stop!"
The girl's steps did not stop as she walked away.
"Nangong Sui!"
The mute woman bowed to Madam Su and then went to catch up with the girl who had left the courtyard.
