Chapter 41 If it's just to accompany my junior sister for a stroll
Yu Sui was pulled aside by Mei Liangyu, and under Mei Liangyu's threatening gaze, she made a shushing gesture to him.
"Senior brother," Yu Sui waved her hand in front of his eyes, "Are you awake? If not, should we wait until you wake up before going in?"
Mei Liangyu glanced at her.
Yu Sui's smile was charming and innocent.
After registering, Li Jinshuang came over with the array-opening jade token. The two instructors behind her were still laughing because of Yu Sui's words.
"Shall we go in?" Li Jinshuang asked, trying to prove she wasn't mute.
Mei Liangyu, still holding Yu Sui, grunted in response. Li Jinshuang then smashed the jade token used to open the formation. The broken jade token created white ripples at the feet of the three, instantly sending them into the armored formation.
The gust of wind and sand forced Yu Sui to turn her face away. The smell of blood filled her nostrils. It was another inauspicious night, with dark clouds overhead and a solemn and oppressive atmosphere everywhere.
This time, however, they were no longer on a battlefield outside the city filled with smoke and fire, but inside the city amidst screams and the pursuit of iron cavalry.
The city was being ravaged by the army. The corpses on the ground were piled up like a small mountain, and blood flowed like a river in the streets. Although no living creatures could be seen, the three of them could hear screams from time to time, gradually fading away. The screams were grotesque and twisted, which greatly affected their mental state.
As houses burned fiercely ahead, and smoke billowed from the city walls, Yu Sui and his companions could see a thin mist of blood spreading before them.
"It's a bit bloody, don't be scared." Mei Liangyu withdrew her hand from Yu Sui's, letting her stand behind him, looking straight ahead, with golden five elements energy forming a protective barrier around her.
Li Jinshuang and Mei Liangyu stood in front of Yu Sui, seemingly prepared to clear the obstacles themselves and then lead Yu Sui on a tour of the first-class armored formation.
The drifting blood mist gradually formed a group of red soldiers on the street ahead. On the soldiers were cavalrymen wearing black and gold armor, holding blood-stained longswords. The blades and the black and gold armor reflected each other. These undead cavalrymen were searching for something. Their hooves walked on the ground with an elegant sound that seemed to be summoning death from evil spirits.
“We’re in the city this time.” Yu Sui stood under the eaves, looking around. “Does winning mean we have to fight our way out?”
“Yes.” Mei Liangyu stared at the undead cavalry approaching this way. “Do you see the undead warriors ahead? Each undead warrior has the strength of the ninth realm and can only be killed by destroying the light core.”
Nine Realms?
Yu Sui nodded.
Mei Liangyu glanced at her reaction out of the corner of her eye and saw that Yu Sui showed no surprise at all after hearing that Black Wind City was full of opponents at the Ninth Realm. She wondered if she was really not afraid or if she had no concept of Ninth Realm sorcerers.
Before Yu Sui opened the Asura Hell, she would have been shocked. It was full of undead warriors of the ninth realm, endless and terrifying.
Unfortunately, after being instantly killed by the Thirteen Realms Undead Warriors on the other side of the Asura Hell River, Yu Sui felt that other military formations were no match for him.
If you were to actually face the Asura Hell, you wouldn't need to say anything upon entering; you would be instantly killed by the thirteenth-realm black-armored cavalry inside, without any power to resist.
The soldiers in a high-level first-class armored formation are only at the ninth realm, not even reaching the Divine Soul realm, while the special-grade armored formation directly reaches the thirteenth realm.
Yu Sui was inwardly grumbling and looking around when he suddenly heard Li Jinshuang draw her sword. The clear, melodious sound of the sword was like heavenly music, shattering the disturbing wails and howls around him.
This also attracted the attention of the red-horse cavalry in front.
When the red horse cavalrymen locked their gazes on the three of them, Yu Sui could feel the air around her vibrate. Dust billowed away and dissipated. Being locked on by unseen gazes felt like an invisible rope was binding her hands and feet, giving her a heavy sense of restraint.
The sound of horses' hooves, which had been moving gracefully just moments before, suddenly turned frenzied. The undead warriors galloped forward, raising their swords and roaring at Yu Sui and his companions.
The undead warrior at the forefront raised his sword and slashed high, the shockwave cleaving through the blood mist. The immense power surged forward as if to cut through everything, and even from a great distance, it was able to shatter and disperse the five elements energy circulating around the three people.
Li Jinshuang and Mei Liangyu simultaneously used their Wind Control Technique to retreat to the rooftop next to them. Yu Sui followed closely behind and saw that the spot where they had just stood had been ripped up by the sword energy of the undead warrior, causing the corpses lying on the ground to shatter and blood to splatter again.
It was indeed bloody.
Yu Sui raised her hand and lightly wiped away the bloodstains from the corner of her eye with her fingertips.
Without a word, Li Jinshuang and Mei Liangyu immediately took action, leaping from the rooftop and landing directly in the center of the group of undead warriors. Li Jinshuang unleashed a hundred slashes with her sword, the blade flashing with incredible speed. Her target was clear: she intended to kill the first undead warrior who swung his sword.
This wasn't the first time the two had tried to break through the formation, and they already had some understanding of this military formation, knowing that they needed to shatter the opponent's five elemental light cores in order to eliminate them.
Yu Sui had already witnessed Li Jinshuang's military and sword skills, and now his gaze fell on Mei Liangyu.
She seemed to have never seen what Mei Liangyu looked like in action.
The Nine Schools of Arts can be simply summarized as: the swords and sabers of the military school, and the runes of the Taoist school.
Mei Liangyu didn't use any runes. He seemed to be empty-handed, but he relied on the protection of his five elements to move freely in the battle formation.
The undead warrior's longsword swept across with incredible speed, seemingly aiming to behead Mei Liangyu. As Mei Liangyu raised his hand, a tiny lightning snake flashed between his fingers. He flicked his finger lightly across the blade, and with a hiss, two powerful energies clashed. The twisted lightning snake, like a strange rune, flashed rapidly across the blade.
The ground trembled and made a loud bang. Yu Sui, who was standing on the roof, raised his eyebrows slightly after his eyes caught the lightning snake rune flashing on the sword.
Both are based on the Bagua generating technique, so why doesn't her lightning snake twist into those strange rune shapes?
The undead warriors and their horses were thrown far away, but they were fast. Before the first one had even completely fallen, the other's bloodthirsty longsword was already slashing in front of Mei Liangyu.
The Gen trigram represents the art of generating life and shaking the mountain.
Mei Liangyu glanced at the sword tip that had grazed the corner of his eye. A colossal mountain pressed down, and everything paused briefly due to the irresistible gravitational pressure. Even the fluctuating Qi of the Five Elements stopped.
The man's well-defined fingers rested on the blood-stained sword tip and gently pressed down. A tiny lightning snake that sprang from his fingertips opened its mouth and bit the sword tip. The undead warrior on the red horse twisted his limbs and made a terrifying clattering sound. As his Five Elements Light Core was bitten and shattered by the lightning snake, he fell off the horse.
In just two blinks of an eye, Yaoshan withdrew.
Yu Sui looked around from above, his eyes following Mei Liangyu's every move.
Everyone knows the same Bagua generation technique, but Mei Liangyu's is a little different. This should be one of the three tests of the Taiyi level-up challenge: the Five Elements Generation Technique and the Self-Modified Hexagram Technique.
If Mei Liangyu wasn't quite sober before, he's now completely awake during the battle. His usual nonchalant attitude has vanished, replaced by focus and decisiveness.
Although Li Jinshuang also felt some pressure, it was much easier than when she went through the formation on her own. After all, Mei Liangyu was a ninth-realm sorcerer, on par with these undead warriors, and perhaps even superior because he was on the verge of the tenth realm.
Yu Sui stood on the high ground and watched for a long time. He felt that Mei Liangyu probably did not use his full strength, so he could not see his true strength. He mostly used Bagua Sheng Technique, and he did not even use the Nine Stream Techniques of the Ghost Daoist School.
Mei Liangyu was now more like guiding Li Jinshuang. He would first exhaust the undead warrior's Nine Streams Technique, and when the opponent's Five Elements Qi was exhausted, he would hand it over to Li Jinshuang to finish it off. Occasionally, he would also take a look at the swordsmanship used by Li Jinshuang.
He also kept a close watch on Yu Sui behind him, preventing any undead warrior's low-level magic from bypassing him and disturbing Yu Sui on the rooftop behind him.
Wave after wave of undead warriors surged in and were annihilated, but they hardly moved their positions, yet they made quite a commotion, thus attracting undead warriors from all directions. As the number of enemies increased, their elemental energy was also depleted more and more.
Yu Sui saw a large number of undead warriors approaching from afar. She squatted on the edge of the roof and peered down at Mei Liangyu: "Senior Brother."
Mei Liangyu gestured for her not to get down yet, and at the same time looked at Li Jinshuang, who was holding a sword not far away: "Are you unwilling to use the sword spirit, or do you not have a sword spirit?"
Yu Sui looked at Li Jinshuang. Upon hearing Mei Liangyu's question, Li Jinshuang stiffened slightly and fell silent.
Mei Liangyu held the array-opening jade tablet in his hand and said to Li Jinshuang, "If you don't have a sword spirit, you won't even be able to get past the first half of the battle formation. If you don't want to, then let my junior sister watch the military sword techniques for half a day, that will be enough."
More and more undead warriors rode in on red horses, and during the brief pause in the battle, sharp screams from all sides resumed.
Mei Liangyu said, "If you intend to break through the formation today, you will need to use your sword spirit. If you are just accompanying my junior sister for a stroll, then I will break through the formation and leave."
Li Jinshuang remained silent without answering. She lowered her eyes and remained still for a moment before slowly sheathing her sword.
The result was as expected.
This person will run into problems if he continues fighting.
Mei Liangyu smashed the jade token that opened the formation and left the armored formation the instant the undead warriors charged with their swords.
Before entering the battle formation, the military training ground was dimly lit, but now it was already bright daylight, almost noon, and there were many more people than before.
The disciples entered the formation full of confidence, only to emerge looking disheveled.
Almost every disciple who emerged from the armored formation was stained with blood, either their own or brought out from within the formation.
The two instructors, who were only responsible for registering the soldiers and armor, held teacups and slowly said to the injured disciples, "Find your own way, yes, go to the doctor yourselves."
Mei Liangyu's wind-listening ruler buzzed. He tapped it to check, and Xing Chun asked, "Have you eaten?"
"Rice." Mei Liangyu replied, glancing at Yu Sui beside her.
Yu Sui was also looking at him. When she saw Mei Liangyu looking over, she smiled and said, "Senior brother, thank you for showing me the military formation. I'll treat you to a meal."
Why not eat it if it's free?
Mei Liangyu took Yu Sui to the dining hall. Yu Sui asked Li Jinshuang if they were going to the dining hall. Li Jinshuang shook her head and left alone.
Yu Sui had originally planned to have the two of them take her into the armored formation to check out the situation before she went to try it out herself, so she didn't pay much attention to it. On the way to the dining hall, she asked Mei Liangyu, "Senior brother, do you know about Li Jinshuang's sword spirit?"
"I don't know." Mei Liangyu walked ahead and said lazily, "Swords and blades of the military are all spiritual. Those above the third realm can cultivate them. Her sword spirit may not be nonexistent, but it is very dangerous. I'm afraid I can't control it."
Yu Sui jogged after him, asking, "Why do you say that?"
Mei Liangyu turned around and waited for her: "Li Jinshuang's sword energy almost got out of control and even cut you and me. If the fight continues, I will kill her as well as the puppets in the armored formation."
Yu Sui couldn't help but look up at him, her eyes filled with uncontrollable laughter.
Is Li Jinshuang in more danger, or are you, Senior Brother, in more danger?
Mei Liangyu pointed at her and asked, "What are you laughing at?"
“No.” Yu Sui shook her head. “Generally, sword spirits that can’t be controlled are extremely powerful.”
Mei Liangyu snorted softly: "Losing control will only harm yourself and others."
Yu Sui raised her hand and gently pressed down her hair: "What if we manage to control it?"
Mei Liangyu: "If you've got it under control, what else is there to say? That's impressive."
