“Woof woof woof!”
As soon as I lay down at night, I heard a burst of rapid dog barking.
It was normal for dogs to bark in the countryside, but the dog barked more and more fiercely, making Jiang Xueying unable to sleep at all.
Hearing the barking of the dog, Jiang Xueying was afraid that the children would be affected, so she simply got up and went next door to check on the children.
In the room, faint moonlight shone through the window and fell on the foot of the bed, forming a faint light and shadow. Ye Xiaojin did not seem to be awakened by the barking of the dog. He just curled up into a ball and clutched the quilt tightly. There was a faint trace of sweat on his head. I don’t know what he dreamed about, and his brows were slightly furrowed.
Jiang Xueying took a handkerchief and wiped the sweat off Ye Xiaojin's face. She patted his chest gently and felt relieved when she saw that his expression relaxed.
After going out, the barking of dogs outside continued. Jiang Xueying frowned and opened the door, and saw several people running out in a hurry with torches.
"Hurry, hurry, the woman is dying, go get Doctor Li!"
In the darkness, only an anxious voice could be heard. Jiang Xueying then remembered that Aunt Liu's daughter had come back today. Judging from her body, she was probably about to give birth. She didn't expect that she gave birth today, and the situation did not look optimistic.
In this era, giving birth to a child is like stepping half into the gates of hell. The mother is in danger of death and the child is in danger of life. Without advanced technology, a difficult delivery could result in two deaths.
The lights on the opposite side lit up brightly, and bursts of screams were heard, including Aunt Liu's crying voice.
"Has Doctor Li arrived? My flower is dying!"
The dogs barked more fiercely, drowning out the hurried footsteps and screams. The neighbors living nearby were woken up and came over one after another to check on the situation. Jiang Xueying frowned and followed over.
Jiang Xueying and Aunt Liu usually get along pretty well. She can't just ignore it for both moral and logical reasons, so she has to at least go over and check out what's going on.
"It's over, it's over. The child has lost so much blood. If the doctor doesn't come, there will probably be two dead today!"
"Oh, that's right. Hua'er is also stubborn. Why did she run back from her husband's house? Now she's in labor. What if she can't give birth to two dead bodies?"
The yard was filled with chaotic footsteps. Aunt Liu had long lost her mind. Her eyes were black and swollen from crying, and she knelt on the ground with a limp body.
Jiang Xueying didn't expect that Aunt Liu's daughter really had a difficult delivery. She didn't expect this when she saw her arrogant state in the morning.
After a while, two men came running over in a hurry. They were Doctor Li from the village.
"Doctor Li, please save my flowers!"
Before Doctor Li could say anything, he was hurriedly pulled into the house, and everyone gathered around him.
Seeing Doctor Li coming, Jiang Xueying didn't plan to get involved anymore. Besides, there were many people helping, so she didn't need any more, so she turned around and went back.
"Ma'am, are you home?"
Just after finishing breakfast, there was a knock on the door. Hearing it was Mrs. Qiao, Jiang Xueying hurried to open the door and saw Mrs. Qiao standing at the door carrying a basket of eggs.
"Why are you here?"
Jiang Xueying hasn't seen Qiao for a long time since she returned to the Qiao family. Now seeing that she looks radiant, she must have been living a good life in the Qiao family during this period.
"I heard that Aunt Liu's daughter went home yesterday and had a difficult labor. My mother-in-law asked me to send some eggs over!"
As they were talking, Jiang Xueying brought Qiao into the house.
This is the tradition in the countryside. Whenever there is a big or small matter happening in a family, people will visit each other, and it is common for neighbors in the village to help each other.
"Hurry up and sit down. I just made breakfast. Let's eat together!"
Jiang Xueying added a set of bowls and chopsticks, and the two children called out "Auntie Qiao" sweetly.
Mrs. Qiao could only sit down and eat breakfast with them. The breakfast still had the familiar taste in her memory, with just the right amount of saltiness and was very delicious.
"Ma'am, have you been there to see it? What did you give?"
"I went to see it yesterday, but they didn't give me anything. What do you think I should give you?"
Jiang Xueying has never been good at this kind of interpersonal communication. If Qiao hadn't come, she would have really forgotten about it.
"We still have a lot of eggs at home, why not bring some over?"
Jiang Xueying's family doesn't lack anything, and the two families are neighbors, so anything brought over is a token of thoughtfulness.
Aunt Liu is a nice person on weekdays and gets along well with most people in the village. When they heard that such a thing had happened in her family, many people in the village came to visit her, and of course there were also people who came to watch the fun.
After dinner, Jiang Xueying went to catch a chicken, took some eggs, and went out with Qiao. Now that they lived in the village, they knew each other all the time, and they were neighbors. If they didn't go over to see each other, they would gossip about each other behind their backs.
There were many people in the Liu family's house, including a sick woman who had just given birth. Jiang Xueying handed the chicken and eggs to Aunt Liu, said a few words of greeting, and went home.
Early the next morning, Jiang Xueying went out to the town.
The market was still bustling with hawking sounds everywhere. Jiang Xueying went to the shop to see that business was good so she went out for a walk and went to the butcher shop to buy two pounds of meat to take back and cook for the children.
"Get out of the way! Get out of the way!"
Jiang Xueying was thinking about what else to buy to take home when a sudden noise came from behind her, mixed with the neighing of horses and the thumping of horse hooves.
He frowned and looked up, seeing an out-of-control carriage running rampant in the market, many vendors' stalls were affected and overturned, and curses rang out one after another.
The horse seemed to be frightened and ran forward regardless of anything. The people in the car couldn't pull it back at all. I remember shouting with a red face.
Seeing the carriage rushing towards her, Jiang Xueying's eyes darkened and she quickly hid on the steps behind her.
In a flash, the horse suddenly neighed, braked suddenly and stopped beside Jiang Xueying.
In an instant, all eyes were focused on her. The horse shook its head wantonly, panting heavily, and paced restlessly in front of Jiang Xueying.
Not only were everyone surprised, Jiang Xueying was also confused, wondering why the horse that was running like crazy would stop in a hurry beside her, and it seemed to be looking at her with a sad look.
This can't be explained!
The horse finally stopped, and the coachman couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. He wiped the sweat off his head timidly and quickly shouted into the carriage, "Miss, are you okay?"
After a moment, the curtain opened, and a woman in a pink dress was helped out of the carriage by a maid. She looked a little embarrassed, probably because she had been frightened. She adjusted her dress before she could see Jiang Xueying standing in front of her, and bowed to her.
"Thank you so much for saving my life, girl!"
Jiang Xueying was stunned. She didn't expect that she would suddenly be labeled as a lifesaver while shopping. She smiled and waved her hand.
"Miss, you misunderstood. It's not my fault. I didn't save you!"
