Chapter 3

Chapter 3

The students in the classroom were lying on the tables for their lunch break, and students were coming in one after another through the door.

Classes started soon after.

The first class was physical education. The physical education committee member shouted in the class and took the students to gather in the playground.

Walk out of the classroom, pass through the student dormitory and the teachers' family building, pass by the flowers and plants on the campus, and enter through a half-open iron gate to the playground.

The site consists of two large open spaces on the left and right, both bare, separated by a long path. The left side is used by the first grade students.

The large, burly-looking PE teacher stood in the shade of a tree, waiting for them to come over. When they approached, he said, "Class 5, Grade 1?"

"Yes." Wei Mo, as the squad leader, responded first.

"Who is the sports committee member?"

The tall boy behind raised his hand and walked out. He had a muscular body and handsome facial features. It was Bai Shu.

The physical education teacher's eyes, which resembled those of a phoenix, glanced up and down at him, and then they lit up. "You look in good shape, young man!"

Bai Shu touched the back of his head and raised his lips embarrassedly.

"Okay, take your class and run five laps around this small playground. Form a team first."

Under the scorching sun, the students changed positions according to their size, shouting the command one, two, one while organizing the team.

Just as we were about to start running, a slender figure quickly flashed out of the team and ran in front of the physical education teacher.

He Xi's face was sickly pale, and his voice was as thin as a mosquito. "Teacher, can I not run?"

The physical education teacher didn't even look at her. He blew the water in the thermos and took a sip.

"I'm not in good health. I haven't taken any physical education classes since junior high school," she explained.

After an awkward silence, the physical education teacher finally spoke. "It's a small playground, with only five laps. How much exercise intensity can you expect? If you're not in good health, you need to exercise more. Besides, high school isn't like junior high. The teachers are more relaxed, and students can do whatever they want."

"I..." He Xi moved his lips, wanting to say something but stopping himself.

"Go ahead!" the PE teacher interrupted her, "otherwise, everyone will have to run another lap by themselves after this one is finished."

He Xi had no choice but to turn around and run back to the team.

The physical education teacher looked at her back and sighed helplessly.

In the playground with sparse trees, the strong sunlight tries to penetrate into every corner and every crack of the earth.

The physical education teacher discovered that the students in the back rows were chatting while running laps. He was furious and asked everyone to run five more laps.

"If I hear anyone chatting in the team again, your class will have to run five more laps. You can only stop when no one is talking and the team is running in unison!"

Under the scorching sun, everyone wiped the sweat from their foreheads and ran laboriously, unable to help but complain.

The flaming sunlight burned every inch of her skin, cold sweat trickled down He Xi's temples, and her vision grew increasingly blurry. He Xi didn't even have the energy to complain; she felt like she couldn't hold on any longer.

If she had known her high school PE teacher was so difficult to talk to, she would have eaten a little more at noon.

If I had eaten a little more, I wouldn’t feel so uncomfortable now!

Cold sweat broke out of her pores. The heat had reached its end, and she was actually cold. She was so cold that her upper and lower lips were trembling.

My vision was completely blurred. I stumbled every few steps and either nearly fell or stepped on the feet of people around me.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry."

Bai Shu, whose foot was stepped on, looked surprised and was about to complain, but when he turned around, he saw He Xi's extremely pale face and pale lips.

"Are you okay?"

This sentence echoed in He Xi's mind several times before she responded by shaking her head.

In fact, she was already in extreme pain.

She had never felt time so hard, running five laps so slowly;

I never knew my body's senses were so developed. I feel dizzy, my eyes are blurry, my stomach aches, and my heart aches...

No way!

Everything in front of her eyes became blurry again, and her brain went into shutdown mode. This time she was unable to recover, and with a bang, she made direct contact with the ground - she fainted.

"ah--"

Someone in the team screamed.

Bai Shu picked up the unconscious He Xi. Her body was weightless and floated like a breeze. She looked up at the physical education teacher and gestured.

Having never encountered such a situation in over a decade of teaching, the physical education teacher was also stunned. "Hurry and send him to the infirmary."

In the simple medical room, the school doctor, an old lady in her sixties or seventies, was taking a nap on a recliner outside when a student was suddenly sent over.

She was actually a chemistry teacher. After retirement, she learned some medical knowledge and took on the idle position of school doctor, a position that would not be used for hundreds of years.

The old woman is old, but she is thin, has bright eyes, and still looks energetic.

Bai Shu effortlessly placed He Xi on the single bed. He looked at his grandmother who had followed closely behind and offered her a spot. "Can you please go and see what's wrong with her?"

The old woman leaned over, looked at He Xi's face for a few seconds, placed her left upper limb above her head, bent her right leg, placed her right hand on her right shoulder, and gently moved it to the left, so that He Xi was lying on her side.

"Did she have a heat stroke?"

Bai Shu watched the old woman cover He Xi with a thin quilt, then walked to the old cabinet opposite to look for something.

"She's fine," the old woman who was rummaging around continued. "That's not true. She's just trying to lose weight and is hungry. Go to the store and buy some candy. Oh, chocolate would be fine too."

"Hungry?" Bai Shu repeated, surprised. "She's already so thin, isn't she still trying to lose weight?"

The old woman smiled, and said it all. Little girls nowadays!

On a sweltering afternoon, with the small window half-open, He Xi slowly woke to the whirring of an old-fashioned fan. She pursed her dry lips and instinctively asked, "Is there any water?"

"Yes, yes, it's just been brewed. I'll put it next to the fan to cool for a while before you drink it." The old woman who was fanning herself on a recliner at the door heard the noise and answered.

"Thanks."

"Awake? How do you feel?"

He Xi tilted his head and saw Bai Shu walking in with a store bag in his hand.

"It's okay." He Xi was about to sit up. Bai Shu, who was standing next to her, subconsciously helped her up as he saw her struggling movements.

After she sat up, Bai Shu rummaged through the bag, first pulling out a bag of candy and then a bottle of energy drink.

He Xi took the candy, looked at the energy drink and shook his head, "Thank you. But I just want to drink water now."

She opened the candy seal, took out a piece, tore the wrapper and put it in her mouth. The sweet taste filled her mouth, making her confused mind clearer.

Bai Shu lowered his head and unscrewed the cap of the energy drink. The finger bones on his hand were clearly visible and looked very beautiful.

He took a sip of his drink to cool off from the summer heat, his eyes drifting to her hand on her stomach, "You...didn't have lunch?"

A declarative tone of polite inquiry.

"This bread is for you. I bought it by chance." He Xi could see that he tried his best to make this deliberate action look natural.

For a moment, she was overwhelmed with emotions. She opened her mouth, but it was as if something was stuck in her throat, unable to go up or down.

He Xi didn't know how to answer him.

Bai Shu thought she was embarrassed and handed the bread forward again, "Eat it quickly, don't lose weight, you are already thin enough."

The bread so close to him exuded a faint and tempting aroma through the packaging. He Xi leaned back reflexively and said, "No. I don't want it."

She can't eat! She'll get fat, and die of it!

If she got any closer, she couldn't help but grab the bread and stuff it into her mouth with the bag still attached!

That's terrible!

"You know I'm losing weight..." Realizing that he had said something wrong again, He Xi's voice gradually weakened, and he lowered his head and remained silent.

"You really don't want to eat?" the other party asked again.

He Xi was stunned and shook his head firmly.

Bai Shu stiffly took back the bread and snorted coldly, his expression hard to tell whether he was happy or angry. "Oh! Then I'll be leaving first."

She really lived up to the saying, either be thin or die!

He didn't want to care about her anymore, and now he just wanted to stay away from people like her.

Bai Shu walked out of the nursing room, kicking the gravel on the ground out of boredom, kicking it until he reached a trash can. He looked at the bread in his hand, and thinking of that irritating girl, he felt even more irritated.

He raised the hand holding the bread, thinking that if you don't want it, I won't give it to you, so he was about to throw it away.

But when the bread was about to go into the tube, he suddenly changed his mind, tore open the bag, and started eating it in big mouthfuls.

He is a little hungry.

But that’s not the point. The point is that people can’t become like the people they hate, right?
