In the dead of night, Bai Zang curled up on his tattered bed, holding the rag-wrapped wooden box in his hands. He carefully opened it, and the ancient stone tablet inside emitted a faint glow, and the traces of the runes seemed to be engraved directly into the depths of his soul through his eyes.
"Hey, little one, nice to see you again," Bai Zang muttered to himself, as if chatting with the slate. His fingertips gently slid across the runes, a complex expression on his face. It wasn't a sigh, but more like resignation.
His thoughts went back to a few years ago, to that unexpected turn in his life.
It was a devastated planet, its skies perpetually gray. In search of food, he entered a long-abandoned psychic ruin. The cave was dark and damp, its air thick with the stench of decay and mold. He treaded on the potholed ground, cautiously approaching corners littered with debris.
"Crash!" The debris beneath his feet suddenly collapsed, and he fell into a hidden underground space. Just as he got up and was about to curse, a dimly glowing stone slab appeared in front of him.
"What the hell is this?" He squatted down and reached out to touch the stone slab. The moment he touched it, a strange chill spread through his fingertips and spread throughout his body, and Bai Zang's hair stood on end.
"It's a bit strange," he muttered, but the chill seemed to draw him in, preventing him from leaving. He gritted his teeth and took the slate in his hands. Although he couldn't understand the ancient words and runes at the time, he had an inexplicable intuition deep in his heart - this thing, the key to changing his destiny.
Back to reality, he held the slate tightly in his hand, a wry smile on his face: "This thing is really not a good thing, but at least it didn't make me starve to death."
The slate recorded an ancient, forbidden tradition—the Way of the Gu. The writing was extremely obscure, almost as if as a prank, concealing key elements within intricate runes. To decipher these runes, Bai Zang searched through ancient texts he had scavenged from the garbage dump. Though the books were tattered, he managed to piece together enough clues.
"Gu Dao..." He stared at the last line of text on the stone slab. "Inheritance is everywhere, and life lies hidden between destruction."
"It really sounds like you're advising me to seek death." Bai Zang shook his head, but a faint light ignited in his eyes.
The core of Gu Dao is a game of life and death, where the enemy can reverse the situation through erosion, control, and destruction. However, his resources are limited to a virtual network and a worn-out mecha. Thus, a crazy idea gradually took shape in his mind: to integrate the concepts of Gu Dao into the virtual network.
Bai Zang turned on the old psychic terminal. The screen flashed with complex code runes. He muttered, "The poison insects are responsible for destruction, the insect insects are responsible for control... Isn't this just a high-end version of a network virus?"
He immediately began his own "virtual Gu" research and development project. His initial attempts were fraught with failure and embarrassment. His program, once written, would burn out the terminal as soon as it ran; sometimes, the test model would backfire, turning the entire psychic network into a chaotic mess.
"Damn it, Gu can bite?" Bai Zang gritted his teeth as he continued to tweak the code. Gradually, he found the balance between Gu and programming, successfully developing two core programs.
The first is a poison program, primarily designed for destruction, capable of forcibly invading a target's network and completely paralyzing the psychic system. The second is a bug program, focused on theft and control, silently invading the target's core through data streams and even temporarily taking over operational permissions.
When the first version of the poison program was successfully simulated, Bai Zang almost jumped up: "Well done!" In the model on the screen, a virtual mecha was gradually paralyzed by the erosion of the poison, alarms sounded one after another, and eventually it turned into a pile of data garbage with no ability to resist.
"Hahaha!" Bai Zang was as excited as a child who had found a new toy, laughing wildly and slamming his hands on the table. "This is how a real man fights! You have a sword? I'll make sure you can't even lift it!"
He continued testing the insect-gu program, this time simulating a scenario where he was controlling the opponent's core systems. On the screen, the insect-gu quickly invaded the target mecha, locking down all its operational permissions one by one. Bai Zang watched the opponent being manipulated like a puppet within the model and couldn't help but admire it. "This thing is designed just for me!"
A smug smile played at the corner of his mouth, his eyes gleaming with intense excitement and enthusiasm. He stared at the runic data flowing across the screen, muttering to himself, "Poisonous insects destroy, insect insects control. With them, I can live better in this virtual world, even gain more control..."
He paused, looking down at the ancient stone tablet on the table. A strange smile crossed his face. "Ancient Gu Dao... What an unexpected gift. Now, let's see how I can use it to create some new tricks."
The simulation interface of the spiritual battlefield slowly started up. Bai Zang sat in the mecha cabin. The light from the screen was projected onto his face, and a meaningful smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
"Let's see how powerful these Gu are in battle." His fingers slid lightly across the console, and the screen loaded a silver-gray virtual mecha, code-named "Gu Master."
The first test target he chose was a mecha model with high defensive capabilities. The psychic shield surrounding the model was like an invisible layer of armor, emitting a pale blue light.
"Goodness! Such high defense! I wonder which rich family's toy this is." Bai Zang snorted coldly. He tapped the interface, and the poison program quickly launched. Dense lines of runic code popped up on the screen, and data streams surged wildly, like an invisible insect devouring the target's defenses.
