The laboratory was completely silent, with only the occasional hum of a robotic arm and the soft hum of data streaming across the screen. The Jindan-class AI mecha on the model table slowly rotated, its runes shimmering, like a beast being dissected, its secrets waiting to be revealed.
"Hurry up! This data is a matter of life and death, don't dawdle!" The cyborg elder's face was gloomy, his voice tinged with impatience. His assistant, sweating profusely, operated the rune control console, occasionally glancing nervously up at the light screen.
"Elder, something seems to have happened..." The assistant's voice trembled a little.
"What's wrong again?" The elder frowned and walked quickly towards the screen.
"There is a piece of psychic rune code here. It is completely different from our original system design. It looks like... some kind of external intrusion program." The assistant pointed at the screen, looking confused.
The elder took a closer look and saw that the rune chain on the screen was swimming in the data stream like a living thing, splitting into a new chain every few seconds and continuing to wriggle and spread.
"Self-replication?" The elder's eyes twitched slightly, and his voice lowered a few degrees. "Can someone explain how this thing got in?"
The assistant swallowed and whispered, "Elder, it's trying to spread."
"Nonsense!" The elder glared at him, "I'm not blind!"
The assistant shrank back awkwardly. The elder stared at the wriggling rune chain and said coldly, "Back up all data immediately and extract the intrusion program. I want to know the origins of this thing."
The assistant nodded rapidly, typing so fast that sparks almost flew off the keyboard.
"Hurry up! Don't be as slow as those second-rate programmers!" the elder urged.
After several long hours, the lab finally completed the data extraction. The assistant wiped the sweat off his face with exhaustion and spoke tremblingly, "Data extraction complete. We're importing it into the master database for matching analysis..."
On the light screen, a progress bar slowly advanced. Everyone held their breath, the only sound in the air being the low hum of the rune beams in motion.
"Matching completed, results displayed." The system's mechanical voice broke the silence, and an ancient text record appeared on the screen:
"Gu Dao—one of the ancient magical cultivation traditions. It centered on the combination of spiritual energy and microorganisms, controlling targets through parasitism to achieve the purpose of attack or manipulation. Its heritage has long been lost, remaining only in historical records..."
The words on the light screen flickered with a faint light, but everyone present seemed to be struck by psychic lightning. Their eyes widened and the air seemed to freeze for a moment.
"Gu Dao?" A young cultivator couldn't help but say it out loud, his voice filled with disbelief. "Is this... Gu Dao? That kind of forbidden power of demonic cultivators?"
The elder took a deep breath, staring at the words on the screen with complicated eyes, and said in a low voice: "Yes, this is Gu Dao."
The assistant trembled and asked, "Elder, how could such a thing still exist? Wasn't it extinct long ago?"
The elder didn't answer. Instead, he raised his hand and pointed at the rune chains on the screen that were swimming like insects. His voice was cold and stern: "Look, they're still moving."
Everyone stared at the screen again, only to see that the rune chains seemed to have a life of their own, still spreading slowly but steadily, like a group of wandering souls unable to find a home.
"This thing..." a young monk gasped, "It's still alive?!"
"This is no longer an ordinary virus or code." The elder spoke slowly, his tone solemn. "This is alive, like a living organism."
"This kind of life form can also parasitize through the Internet... Who can withstand this?" The young monk screamed, and even accidentally kicked over a toolbox at his feet.
The elder's eyes, sharp as an eagle, watched the data flashing across the screen. He spoke slowly, his voice low but full of pressure, "This is a brilliant feat. If we can fully master these Gu programs, the psychic network will enter a whole new era, and we will be the ones controlling it."
The assistant raised his head cautiously and asked in a low voice, "Elder, do you mean... we really need to study these procedures?"
The elder turned to look at him, his expression mocking his naiveté. "Of course! Optimize them, replicate them, and make them fully usable. That's our mission!"
However, another monk couldn't help but interrupt, "But, Elder...if this program gets out of control, won't it cause a devastating blow to the psychic network? We might even be harmed..."
The elder's smile faded slightly, and his gaze swept over the other man, his eyes as cold as a sharp blade: "So we must completely control it. Only the power in our hands is true power. Those who worry about the consequences will only be abandoned by the times."
The assistant shuddered upon hearing this and immediately nodded: "Yes! Elder, you are wise."
A few days later, after repeated debugging, the first batch of Qi-training AI mechas equipped with the primary poison program were quietly deployed to the Chaos Region. Everything was proceeding according to plan.
The wastes of the Chaos Realm were shrouded in a dark psychic mist, and AI mechas stood silently amidst the ruins. Each mecha's surface was covered in faintly flickering chains of psychic runes, as if awaiting some command.
A few minutes later, the battlefield map refreshed, and a large number of players flooded into the chaotic area. In the secret control room of the extreme technology faction, the monks stared at the screen, waiting for the performance of the AI mecha.
"Begin the test." The elder's voice was low and full of pressure.
The AI mechs instantly activated, their psionic engines emitting a low hum. They roamed around, quickly locking onto their targets—several Foundation Establishment players cautiously exploring the ruins. Without warning, the AI mechs' psionic beams fired, precisely hitting their targets' weak points.
