The nights of Ranxing were ablaze with lights. Countless aircraft streaked the sky, and the streets were bustling with people, a crisscross of light and shadow. However, in a dilapidated area on the edge of the city, a cluster of low-slung metal houses stood out from the crowds, forming a stark contrast to the bustling metropolis.
Xiang Fan dragged his exhausted body to a rusty alloy door. He raised his hand and pressed the psychic sensor button on the door. The alloy door creaked in dissatisfaction, as if complaining about the arrival of its new owner. The room was pitch black. He fumbled and tapped the simple psychic switch on the wall. A dim light suddenly illuminated the small space.
The furnishings in the room were extremely sparse, consisting of a metal bed that barely qualified as a bed, a worn-out psychic stove, and a table with a leg clearly missing, barely balancing against the wall. In the corner lay a few simple pieces of luggage, containing all the belongings he had brought from Yunxuan Star.
Xiang Fan patted his deflated storage bag and calculated his expenses for next month. "Rent is 100 spirit stones, food will cost at least 100, miscellaneous expenses 50... I should be able to buy some osmanthus cake with the rest, right?" He couldn't help but smile at the thought, then sighed. "This place... is barely habitable."
He turned his head and looked out the window. In the wasteland not far away, a dilapidated mecha was quietly parked there. It was the only "legacy" he brought from Yunxuan Star, and also the only "entertainment device" he could rely on.
Xiang Fan wanted to throw himself directly onto the bed, but a familiar voice suddenly rang in his mind -
"Junior brother! Remember to report your safety as soon as you get there, otherwise I'll come back to settle the score with you!"
The corners of his mouth twitched slightly, and he recalled Lu Qingli's angry look with her hands on her hips before she left. He suddenly shuddered: "No, this is too terrible to settle. I have to report my whereabouts immediately."
He dragged himself toward the mech outside the window, climbed up the hatch, and expertly activated the virtual network device. A faint mechanical sound emanated from within the mech, and the display screen flickered a few times, as if the old jade slips of the immortal cultivation technique needed to warm up before activation.
"Spirit Realm Battlefield connection successful. Legendary King, Zero, do you need to log in?" The mechanical voice sounded as usual. Xiang Fan pressed the confirmation button as usual, and complained, "This crappy mech is connecting so slowly."
The data stream on the screen slowly loaded, and the familiar virtual conference room gradually appeared. Before Xiang Fan could fully enter, he could hear a familiar noisy sound.
"Boss, you finally decided to come!" Shadow Killer Ning Yuge waved his hands exaggeratedly, with his usual hippie smile on his face.
"I thought you were robbed on Ranxing." Ling Ruochen (Youyu Sword Armor) teased half-seriously, "Boss, Ranxing is a dangerous place. A rookie in the Qi training stage can easily become someone else's training material."
Ling Ruoxi crossed her arms across her chest, her tone calm but full of joking: "Zero, oh no, Xiang Fan, you really made us wait long enough."
The Xuanwu Guard (Luo Tiangang) leaned against the wall of the conference room and chuckled, "Could it be that you haven't even found a place to stay?"
Xiang Fan's face was suddenly filled with embarrassment, and he scratched his head: "Uh... Actually, I really can't find a very good place."
Gu Master Bai Zang scoffed, "This isn't like our legendary Zero. If this gets out, won't everyone laugh at you? Do you want me to send you some insect Gu so you can sleep peacefully?"
Xiang Fan rolled his eyes: "Those insect poisons of yours... Thank you, but I don't need them anymore."
The Shadow Killer slammed his hands on the table in delight. "Hahahaha, Boss, you've actually fallen to this point? Tell me, where do you live now? It's not some dilapidated temple down the street, is it?"
Xiang Fan waved his hands and sighed helplessly, "It's not that bad, it's just that the house is rather... 'simple'."
"Simple?" Ling Ruoxi raised an eyebrow. "Do you mean the simplicity of an ordinary rental apartment, or the kind that's about to fall apart?"
"Well...it's barely livable." Xiang Fan said casually.
"Hahahahahaha!" Everyone in the conference room burst into laughter again.
Fairy Qingli's sudden visit
Just when everyone was having fun, a communication request popped up.
Xiang Fan was having a great time with Shadow Killer and the others in the conference room when a special communication request suddenly popped up.
"Fairy Qingli requests to join the call."
Xiang Fan's face changed, and without saying a word he locked the access rights to the conference room and quickly blocked everyone else's connections, looking like a guilty thief.
"Boss, come on! We haven't heard enough!"
"Yeah, yeah! Let's watch!"
"Get lost!" Xiang Fan decisively cut off the call, took a deep breath, and then clicked to answer.
The virtual light and shadow on the screen flickered slightly, and a familiar figure appeared before him. Lu Qingli, clad in a moon-white immortal robe, had picturesque features and a cool, elegant demeanor. But now, her face was puffed up, and she looked sullen, like a crane whose tail had been stepped on.
"Junior brother, have you forgotten something?" She put her hands on her hips, her voice full of dissatisfaction.
Xiang Fan twisted his fingers guiltily: "Senior Sister, I... I just settled down..."
"Just settled in?" Lu Qingli narrowed her eyes and glanced at him calmly. "Then tell me why I haven't received any news since you boarded the starship? Do you know, I was so worried that I almost ran over here!"
Xiang Fan stared down at the tip of his shoe, secretly complaining in his heart, his voice as small as a mosquito: "I'm sorry, Senior Sister, I... I really can't do anything."
"No way?" Lu Qingli raised an eyebrow, her tone becoming even colder. "Xiang Fan, you'd better give me a reasonable explanation."
