Chapter 26 Invitation

"Knock knock knock," the fingers with distinct knuckles, slightly clenched into a fist, rhythmically knock on the door.

From inside came Commander Nangong's strong yet authoritative voice: "Please come in!"

Shen Shiyi immediately stood up straight and saluted respectfully. "Reporting, Commander, Shen Shiyi is here. What are your orders, Commander?"

Upon entering, I saw Nangong Zixin in the corner. Why was she there?

Commander Nangong couldn't help but chuckle when he saw how serious she was. His trusted and beloved general was always so meticulous.

The authoritative voice slowed down slightly, and said in a kind tone, "Please sit down. It's not me who's looking for you, it's Zixin."

Back then, his daughter always mentioned this girl in front of him. He never imagined that after so many years, they would become superior and subordinate. What a deep connection!

He then remarked casually, "People who aren't family don't enter the same door, fate is such a thing... hahaha." Before he finished speaking, everyone understood, and his hearty laughter echoed through the serious office.

The sound was clear even from several meters away, and the guard couldn't help but wonder, what good thing was this?

The commander was so happy.

Now that the matter is settled, he should give his time back to his daughter.

It's been many years since we last met, and this is perhaps the most peaceful reunion we've had in all these years.

The two looked at each other in the air, and soon Nangong Zixin gave in and slowly said, "I came here to invite you to my birthday party."

It's been so many years since they celebrated their birthdays together, maybe seven or eight.

So many years have passed in the blink of an eye.

Shen Shiyi didn't think there was any point in attending the birthday party, and immediately denied it, saying, "Sorry, I had something to do that day." This was just an excuse.

Nangong Zixin smiled and remained silent, simply gazing at her quietly for a long time. "I knew you would refuse. You've really changed a lot since six years ago. No, to be precise, the changes between you and eight years ago are like heaven and earth."

She chuckled to herself: Time is a wonderful thing; it can even change a person's personality.

Shen Shiyi disagreed, saying, "Time is passing, and people are changing, but you haven't changed." Now that she had been reborn, she didn't want to go back to the past.

Regardless of the events or people involved, they should all be preserved in the long river of memory.

Nangong Zixin smiled bitterly, "Yes, everything is changing, but I still hope we can go back to the past. Doesn't that seem a bit silly?"

Everyone else is changing, but she remains trapped in the vortex of the past, unable to extricate herself.

"Everyone has their own ambitions." What else could she say?

“You don’t need to comfort me. I know you’re not Su Bing’er now, but Shen Shiyi. Because you’ve been reborn, you’re pretending that your old self is dead. But we can’t. Have you ever thought about how we spent these years thinking you were dead? But reality has given us hope and a glimmer of light. You, a person who has been dead for six years, have actually come back to life. Do you know how happy and excited we are?”

When things got emotional, Nangong Zixin couldn't help but hold her hand affectionately and pleadingly, "Please don't treat us like this. It's not easy to find a true friend in life. Meeting and getting along is a great blessing."

After listening to so much from her, it would be a lie to say that Shen Shiyi wasn't moved.

However, she has decided to forget her past self, including the people and events associated with her.

What should we do now?

Seeing her head bowed in thought, Nangong Zixin realized that she had achieved the desired effect and should stop while she was ahead.

He hurriedly shoved the invitation from the table into her hand and left quickly.

When Commander Nangong felt it was about time to return, he bumped into his daughter running out.

She hurriedly called out to the person, "Zixin," but the person had already gone far away.

"How did your talk go? Have you resolved your inner conflicts?" He walked up to Shen Shiyi and looked at her with bright eyes.

Seeing her silent attitude, he sighed and kindly advised, "You are just stubborn. Sometimes it's good to let go of things, but you can't deny everything, right? You and Zixin have been friends for many years. Although so many years have passed, I believe that deep down, you both consider each other close friends. There shouldn't be so many twists and turns between sisters. If you like someone and it's right for you, don't let go. As the ancients said, having one true friend is enough."

He had said everything he needed to say; the rest was between her and Zixin.

He stood up and patted her on the shoulder, giving her earnest advice like an elder—this was probably the first time he'd ever done so.

He sighed and said, "Think about it carefully. Life is short, only a few decades. Don't let yourself have regrets when you're old."

The two had known each other for several years, and this was probably the first time they had heard the commander say so much.

Shen Yayi stood up and saluted, her tone softening, "I understand what you've said, and I will consider it carefully."

Commander Nangong, standing at the door watching the departing figure, let out a heavy sigh.

It's better to resolve conflicts than to let them fester; ultimately, their own inner turmoil is something they must address themselves.

"Hey, look, isn't that Shiyi? Let's go take a look!" A sharp-eyed female comrade chimed in.

Xia Yiran quickly followed, "Shiyi, are you alright?" Your face looks so pale, could you have been scolded?

Shen Shiyi knew her comrades cared about her, so she forced a smile and said, "No, don't worry about me." As she spoke, she unconsciously raised the invitation card in her hand.

"Huh, what's this?"

"Let me see."

"An invitation, it's for the Commander's daughter's birthday party." After reading the invitation, everyone turned to look at her.

Thankfully, they weren't being scolded; it turned out they were just receiving invitations, which made them think they were going to be criticized and denounced.

It was a false alarm.

Xia Yiran acted like they were best buddies, hooking one arm around her neck and slapping her chest hard with the other.

"Fine, you've made us worry for nothing. How about some compensation for emotional distress?" She jokingly held out her hand for money, and everyone was amused by her shameless behavior.
