Chapter 89 Sophie Returns Home

Sophie burst into tears when she heard her father's voice.

"I'm sorry, Dad, it's your daughter who's sorry."

When Gu Niansi and Shen Zhifan saw that their grandmother was crying, they went over and hugged her silently. Gu Niansi patted her back gently like a little adult.

Grandpa Su dared not say too much, for fear of upsetting his daughter again.

"Take some time to go home."

Sophie spoke softly.

"Yes, Dad."

After hanging up the phone, Qin's mother comforted her younger sister.

"Take a couple of days off. Whenever you want to go home, give me a call, and I'll come with you."

Sophie looked up and nodded gently.

"Okay, sis."

Qin's mother thought that her husband would be getting off work soon, so she prepared to say goodbye.

"Your brother-in-law is about to get off work, I have to go back now, I'm leaving first today."

Sophie got up.

"Sister, let me take you."

When they reached the door, Qin's mother told her not to see them off any further.

"That's enough. Go back and get some rest. Don't think about anything."

Sophie pursed her lips and nodded.

"Um."

Shen Shiyi arrived home an hour after Qin's mother left. As she opened the door and walked to the entrance, she felt a little lost and unsure how to start a conversation with Aunt Su, with whom she had spent every day.

She slowly walked into the living room and found Aunt Su enjoying the breeze on the balcony.

"Aunt Su."

Sophie turned around when she heard the noise, and spoke calmly.

"I'm back."

Shen Shiyi nodded slightly.

"Um."

Shen Shiyi didn't know why Aunt Su had left home for so many years, but she was sure there was a reason.

"Aunt Su, about what happened today..." She didn't mean to say it.

Sophie shook her head.

"It's not your fault, it's my cowardice and timidity, it's my problem."

She knew she had gone to the Su family's house today.

What do you think of the Su family?

Shen Shiyi's objective evaluation.

"It's nice, the scenery is beautiful."

Sophie smiled gently.

"There must have been some changes before I left home."

Shen Shiyi remained silent, and the two stood there quietly for a minute.

When are you and Zimo getting married?

Shen Shiyi looked up and pursed her lips slightly.

"The date hasn't been set yet."

Sophie walked into the living room, and Shen Shiyi looked at her lonely and frail figure, then lowered her head and followed.

"As long as the person and the timing are right, we can finalize things sooner rather than later. Life is actually very difficult, and all encounters are preordained by fate."

Shen Shiyi followed and sat down.

“You’re right, that’s what Grandpa and the others think too. And Zimo might have to step down and take over the company completely.”

Sophie hadn't been home for years and had no idea what had happened at home.

"Stepping down? Taking over the company? Has something happened at home?"

Shen Shiyi looked up at her and spoke softly.

"My eldest brother has cancer and may not live much longer. My uncle is also in poor health."

Sophie looked completely incredulous when she heard this.

"How could this happen?" My father and older brother have endured so much over the years.

On the third day, accompanied by Shen Shiyi and Qin's mother, Su Fei arrived at the Su family's old residence. That day, Old Master Su had specially changed into new clothes, shaved, and had a servant trim his eyebrows.

Uncle Ning saw the old man sitting alone on the sofa and went over to comfort him.

"Grandpa, relax. We can't get too excited later, we have to be careful about our high blood pressure."

A slight change appeared on Old Master Su's aged face.

"Okay, I'll be careful."

Sophie arrived at the door but hesitated to go in. Shen Shiyi and Qin's mother exchanged glances behind her, and in the end, Shen Shiyi stepped forward.

"Aunt Su, let's go inside." Sometimes, people need to be pushed a little.

Urged on by her, Sophie went inside. Although Grandpa Su was old, his hearing was still very good. Hearing footsteps beside him, Grandpa Su slowly looked up. When he saw Sophie, her face overlapped with the one he remembered, and tears welled up in his eyes.

"Xiao Fei."

Hearing the familiar nickname, Sophie broke down.

"Dad." The two then embraced, and Sophie cried uncontrollably. Grandpa Su raised his hand and gently patted her back.

"Dad, I'm sorry, it's all my fault, I'm an unfilial daughter."

Grandpa Su offered words of comfort.

"It's alright, it's all in the past, it's good that you're back."

Shen Shiyi and Qin's mother stood behind, quietly watching the scene before them.

Grandpa Su released his daughter and raised his handkerchief to wipe away her tears.

"You're so old, stop crying, you'll look ugly if you keep crying."

Sophie broke down and laughed at her father's usual way of coaxing her.

"dad."

Hearing her laughter, Qin's mother and Shen Shiyi exchanged a smile. The group sat down, and Old Master Su inquired about his youngest daughter's life over the years.

...

"In the past few years, after I met Shiyi, my life has been quite good. I'm not so depressed anymore. I have my children at home to keep me company, and I bicker and talk with Aunt Qu from time to time. It's quite nice."

At this moment, Grandpa Su looked at Shen Shiyi.

"Shiyi, Grandpa really wants to thank you for taking care of Xiaofei these past few years." Not everyone can persevere for several years.

Shen Shiyi glanced at Su Fei.

"Grandpa, you're too kind. My relationship with Aunt Su is a two-way street, and she has helped me a lot."

Qin's mother tried to smooth things over.

"Alright, let's not talk about those unhappy things anymore. It's rare for everyone to meet and get together today, so we should celebrate properly."

Upon hearing this, Old Master Su slapped his thigh.

"Yes, yes, Uncle Ning, go and make arrangements quickly. Have the kitchen prepare some of their signature dishes so we can celebrate."
