Chapter 3 Memories of My Youth
Memories of my youth suddenly flooded back into my mind.
I remember my mother telling her that year, "Linlin, that child is waiting for you downstairs again. He's been coming for several days now."
She wiped away her tears and said to her mother calmly, "No, he got bored waiting and left."
She secretly watched Xu Qingmin from upstairs for just as long as he waited for her downstairs.
She committed countless evil deeds throughout her life, yet she's still living a good life. I feel uneasy about it; she must be a case of "a scourge that lives on for a thousand years."
Song Yilin thought that in such a large city as Jianghai, it wouldn't be so easy to run into someone, but she didn't expect to run into someone just over a month after returning.
I don't know if it's fate or a curse.
Perhaps because she remembered what the sales consultant at the Yishi store said about Xu Qingmin being cheated on by his first love, Song Yilin felt inexplicably flustered.
She didn't know what expression to wear when facing Xu Qingmin, so she could only pretend not to know him.
His eyes darted haphazardly across the coffee shop.
The pressure emanating from Xu Qingmin grew stronger, and it felt as if his aura enveloped the entire coffee shop.
Song Yilin swallowed hard.
She glanced at Xu Qingmin out of the corner of her eye; he seemed not to recognize her.
So many years have passed, and her youthful appearance has faded. Perhaps she is no longer an important person to him, and it's normal that he doesn't remember her.
I don't know when he became nearsighted. He wears mature gold-rimmed glasses and has lost his youthful charm. The distance between him and ordinary people is even greater than before. He seems to have been born with an aloof temperament, like a young master raised by a wealthy family in the Republic of China era, with a wall between him and ordinary people.
She suddenly missed Xu Qingmin, who hadn't been weathered by time. Although he was just as aloof, he also had his youthful arrogance.
Now, the clear eyes of yesteryear are gone, replaced by the eagle-like gaze often seen in businessmen. Perhaps feeling his gaze was too cold, he wore gold-framed glasses, which reduced the shadows and added a touch of refinement.
If she hadn't read his profile a month ago, she might not have recognized him at first glance.
When Mu Yunzi saw Xu Qingmin coming over, she stood up and said to Song Yilin, "My family has come to pick me up. Let's get together again sometime."
Song Yilin nodded politely to Mu Yunzi.
It's just polite talk among adults. They don't even have each other's contact information, so how can they expect to get together again sometime?
Mu Yunzi then called out to Xu Yijing and left with Xu Qingmin.
Are they a family? And the child's surname is also Xu?
If we calculate the timeline, if Xu Yijing is Xu Qingmin's child, then when they were still together, Xu Qingmin had already gotten together with Mu Yunzi. In that case, they were both equally bad people.
But based on her understanding of Xu Qingmin, he shouldn't be capable of doing such a thing.
Xu Qingmin didn't say a word from beginning to end, nor did he look at Song Yilin even once.
As soon as Xu Qingmin left, Song Yilin felt her breathing finally become smooth, and she greedily took a few more breaths.
Secretary Li waited outside the store and prepared wet wipes for Xu Qingmin to wipe his hands.
Xu Qingmin got into the back seat of the car and started working on his tablet. Xu Yijing obediently got into the back seat as well, while Mu Yunzi sat in the passenger seat.
Xu Qingmin caught a glimpse of the bandage on Xu Yijing's forehead out of the corner of his eye and pointed at Xu Yijing's head: "How did you get that?"
Mu Yunzi quickly said, "He was injured by Song Yilin's daughter."
As Mu Yunzi said this, she observed Xu Qingmin's expression through the rearview mirror.
If you weren't someone who knew him well, you wouldn't notice that Xu Qingmin's eyes had suddenly lost focus.
How could you be so calm just now, not even saying hello to Song Yilin when you saw her?
Xu Qingmin put down his tablet and said to Xu Yijing, "Nothing like that. Fighting with a girl."
"Brother, I didn't fight with her, I was accidentally injured."
Clearly, Xu Qingmin didn't want to hear his explanation.
Xu Qingmin turned his head to look out the window and said calmly, "Drive."
When the Maybach had driven a dozen meters away from the coffee shop, Mu Yunzi, in the passenger seat, suddenly said, "Stop the car."
Li Muzi, who was driving, looked at Mu Yunzi. Given Mu Yunzi's status in the Xu family, it was already very irregular for her to suddenly call for the car to stop.
She looked back at her boss, but her boss's attention was completely focused on Mu Yunzi's behavior.
The boss's attention was focused on the view outside the window. Following his gaze, one could see the city streets, two rows of maple trees, and the setting sun casting long shadows of two 'sisters' beneath them. The crimson petals of the maple blossoms fell on their figures, one tall and one short, creating a scene reminiscent of a traditional Chinese painting.
This was the first time Li Muzi had seen her boss staring blankly at a woman, and she didn't blame Mu Yunzi for suddenly and inexplicably calling for the car to stop.
Looking at Xu Qingmin's expression, Mu Yunzi understood perfectly.
She knew all too well how madly Xu Qingmin loved Song Yilin back then.
After a long while, Xu Qingmin's voice came from behind the car: "Let's drive."
“Xu Yijing, next time you fight with a girl, go fight in an African primitive tribe. There’s no shame in fighting with girls there.”
Xu Qingmin's tone was as cold as if he were in a meeting. Li Muzi even had a strange feeling that the two 'sisters' she had just seen were not her bosses, but rather that they had been possessed.
Xu Yijing looked at his brother with a wronged expression, not daring to speak out, and could only obediently say, "I know."
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the mother and daughter in the sunset; Bai Guanqun really looked like her mother.
It's strange, Xu Yijing felt a sense of familiarity when he saw Bai Guanqun, even though they were mother and daughter and looked so alike. But when he saw Bai Guanqun's mother, he didn't feel that same way.
Upon arriving at the Xu family mansion, Xu Yijing heard his brother's cold voice from behind: "Starting today, we'll hire a tutor for you. After class, go home and study hard with your tutor. You're not allowed to go anywhere else."
Xu Yijing looked pale as he looked at his brother, who was 21 years younger than him. Xu Yijing thought about how crazy he would go home every day to study with his tutor, but he didn't dare to argue with his brother. He already had a very low presence in the family, no status, and no say.
The Xu family mansion is now located on a mountain. Xu Qingmin's parents live in one building, Xu Qingmin's sister Xu Qingya's family lives in another building, Xu Qingmin himself lives in the main house, and Xu Yijing and Mu Yunzi live in the very back, in the smallest and most shabby building, simply because Xu Yijing, Xu Qingmin and Xu Qingya did not share the same mother.
After Xu Yijing returned to the house, Xu Qingmin looked at Mu Yunzi with his deep eyes and said coldly, "Did you deliberately call me over today?"
Mu Yunzi gave a forced smile: "Seeing her today, her face hasn't changed much, and her temperament is even better than before. I thought that since we haven't seen each other for so many years, I wanted to create an opportunity for you two to catch up."
"I don't need this kind of reminiscing."
Mu Yunzi's fingers dug almost into her flesh: "Can't you still forget her?"
Xu Qingmin adjusted his glasses, his whole body radiating coldness: "Mu Yunzi, do your job well, take good care of Xu Yijing, and don't meddle in things that are not your business."
He then left Xu Yijing's residence.
