Chapter 39 Adults Should Be More Sensible
Song Yilin trembled all over, and her legs suddenly went weak. Xu Qingmin quickly caught her.
Song Yilin's heart suddenly started pounding. She quickly left Xu Qingmin's embrace and went to consult with professionals about the search and rescue plan and the estimated time of rescue.
Ambulances are on standby; the situation is critical, and search and rescue teams have already committed enormous manpower and resources.
It took more than an hour for the rescue team to find the old woman and carry her out.
The ambulance was carried in by several people.
Song Yilin got into the ambulance, and Xu Qingmin followed.
Song Yilin held the old lady's hand tightly. It was already winter in Jianghai City, and the old lady's hand was icy cold. Song Yilin kept rubbing the old lady's hand and breathing on it from time to time.
Looking at the old lady's face, which still had a little bit of color, Song Yilin felt slightly comforted.
"Grandma!" Song Yilin tried to wake the old lady.
But the old lady didn't react at all.
Upon arrival at the hospital, she was immediately taken to the emergency room. Song Yilin then helped the elderly woman get a card, told her family that she was already in the hospital and to put their minds at ease, and instructed Bai Guanqun to focus on his studies.
After finishing all this, I saw Xu Qingmin still at the door of the emergency room.
Song Yilin handed Xu Qingmin a bottle of water. Xu Qingmin glanced at the water in Song Yilin's hand, and Song Yilin realized what was happening and withdrew her hand.
As time went by, Song Yilin almost forgot how Xu Qingmin used to find fault with everything.
Xu Qingmin took the water directly from her hand.
Song Yilin asked in confusion, "Don't you dislike drinking outside drinks?"
Xu Qingmin unscrewed the cap and took a sip of water: "When have I ever complained about your stuff?"
That's true. When we were dating, we shared a bottle of water and even kissed.
"Thank you so much for today. I'll visit you another day. My family will be here soon."
The implication is that it's no longer convenient for Xu Qingmin to be here.
Although it might seem like they're discarding him after he's served his purpose, it's really not appropriate for his family to see Xu Qingmin right now.
Xu Qingmin didn't make things difficult for Song Yilin or say anything more. He drank Song Yilin's water and left the hospital.
Song Yilin knew that Xu Qingmin's favor couldn't be repaid with just a thank you, a meal, or a gift.
Xu Qingmin must have mobilized countless resources and incurred countless favors to achieve this comprehensive search.
Without Xu Qingmin, it would have been impossible to gather so many people, professionals, and equipment in less than 24 hours.
Even if the old lady hadn't been injured suddenly in the dead of winter, the cold weather alone would have caused her to die of hypothermia if she stayed any longer.
Therefore, to repay the favor, we must give Xu Qingmin what he wants.
As an adult, if someone goes this far, even if they don't want anything in return, they have genuinely helped you, so you should definitely reciprocate.
Song Yilin knew that Xu Qingmin knew Song Yilin would be very sensible, so he wasn't in a hurry to say anything to her, since the important thing right now was the old lady.
The emergency room door opened as soon as my mother and mother-in-law arrived.
"The old lady is alright. She didn't drink the pesticide she was holding. She probably fell and fainted before she could drink it. She has a head injury, which has been bandaged. The wound isn't deep, and she should wake up soon. However, she is quite old, so she won't recover as quickly as a young person. Please take good care of her."
The mother-in-law rushed forward, grasped the doctor's hand, and expressed her gratitude profusely.
Grandma only had a common external injury, and Song Yilin thought she would be sent to a regular ward. Unexpectedly, the hospital sent her directly to a VIP ward. It was obvious that Xu Qingmin had arranged it.
The mother-in-law frowned when she saw the nice hospital room: "Linlin, such a nice hospital room must have cost a lot."
Song Yilin couldn't say that it was Xu Qingmin's arrangement, so she said in a deliberately relaxed tone, "Your daughter-in-law is the general manager now, so I can't let the old lady live in such a shabby place. Besides, the old lady is in a bad mood right now, so letting her live in a better place will be good for her condition."
The mother-in-law observed the ward: "But..."
Ms. Meng pushed Cai Hong inside, saying, "There's no 'but.' The old lady's injuries aren't serious. She can be discharged in a couple of days. The extra hospital room fee isn't even as much as I lose in a day of mahjong. Let's go."
Song Yilin stayed with the old lady until evening and noticed that the old lady's eyelids were moving.
Song Yilin stepped forward and gently called out, "Grandma."
The old lady slowly opened her eyes when she heard Song Yilin's voice.
Seeing a room full of people, he closed his eyes again.
Ms. Meng also noticed the old lady's movements: "Hey, old lady, stop pretending. You've been a powerful figure for over eighty years, and you've still been bullied by that shrew from the Ke family. How shameful!"
Ms. Meng's words eased the old lady's embarrassment. After all, the old lady felt guilty for wanting to die but not being able to and for troubling so many people to look for her.
Ms. Meng bought a bag of sunflower seeds at some point, and while cracking them open, she said to Cai Hong, "Sister Cai, let's go see that old lady Ke tomorrow. I don't care about her family's petty affairs, and she even dared to go up to my old lady and argue with her."
Cai Hong lowered her eyelids as she spoke: "Speaking of this, it was all my fault. I shouldn't have introduced Ke Qu to Linlin."
Ms. Meng spat out a sunflower seed shell and shook her head: "This is not your fault. The old lady of the Ke family has always said that her daughter-in-law is at fault. Many people do not know how Ke Qu got divorced. I only found out yesterday how Ke Qu got divorced."
When the gossip was mentioned, the old lady's face wasn't so embarrassed anymore, and the atmosphere became harmonious again.
While peeling oranges for the old lady, Cai Hong listened to Ms. Meng gossip.
"Ke Qu's ex-wife was a good person, wasn't she? She worked for a big company and often worked overtime, so she didn't take care of the family as much. That old lady really thought she was an empress dowager, expecting her daughter-in-law to cook for her and serve her every day. But the daughter-in-law didn't tolerate her, and they fought every day at home. They divorced not long after. Now the daughter-in-law is remarried to a small business owner and is doing very well. But that old lady from the Ke family talks badly about her in the neighborhood every day, making people think she's a terrible daughter-in-law."
Ms. Meng brought up the topic back to the old lady: "Grandma, when you're discharged from the hospital, let's talk about the Ke family in the neighborhood. That shameless old lady, she's still living in the house that Ke Qu's grandparents lived in. She even drove the old folks to the countryside. She's heartless and can't stand seeing normal people enjoying their family life."
Ms. Meng has always had high emotional intelligence and has always known what she wants. This family would be much more dull without her.
Ms. Meng accompanied Song Yilin through her most difficult times and provided her with all her help; otherwise, Song Yilin might not have made it this far.
Ke Qu didn't say anything bad about his wife during the blind date, which shows he had some conscience, but not much. Ke Qu looks respectable, but it turns out he's a mama's boy. If he had been more protective of his wife, they wouldn't have gotten divorced.
