Chapter 6 The Love Letters Sent

Chapter 6 The Love Letters Sent

What a small world! I ran into this man twice in one day.

Just as Song Yilin was feeling awkward and unsure how to deal with the man in front of her, a drunk man in a suit and tie walked out, got into the Maybach, sat in the passenger seat, and the black Maybach drove out of her sight.

Song Yilin was glad she hadn't presumptuously spoken to Xu Qingmin; he probably didn't even remember her.

Inside the car, Li Muzi carefully observed the boss's expression. He could have waited for Gu Sinan to come out of the garage, but the boss insisted that he drive to the bar entrance. He also saw the girl at the entrance. He had seen her twice today, and the boss had acted strangely twice.

After getting into the car, Gu Sinan kept chattering: "Just now at the entrance, I saw that beautiful woman in the red halter dress in the bar. Under normal lighting, her face looks more like your first love, A-Qing. Why don't you go after her? What if she's divorced? Her aura is absolutely amazing, let me tell you."

Xu Qingmin ignored Gu Sinan's drunken ramblings and leaned back in his chair, pretending to doze off.

Li Muzi gleaned a few useful pieces of information from Gu Sinan's words. The woman in red was married, and the boss definitely knew her. Judging from the boss's unusual behavior today, could this woman be the one rumored to have cheated on the boss? Gu Sinan hadn't seen her for years, so he thought it was just a resemblance. Could it be the same person? Based on his understanding of the boss, someone who looked similar wouldn't make him act so strangely, unless it was the person herself.

If true, this news is quite explosive.

Li Muzi first took her boss home, then took Gu Sinan home. On the way, Li Muzi played soothing music and tentatively asked, "Mr. Gu, have you met Mr. Xu's first love?"

This piqued Gu Sinan's interest, and after having a few drinks, he opened up the topic: "Yes, everyone around him has seen Song Yilin. Xu Qingmin was incredibly passionate when he was in love back then; in today's terms, he was completely love-struck."

Looking at the city's night view, Gu Sinan's eyes flashed with a hint of heartache: "That kid, he got too into a relationship, and it's been so many years since he recovered. Now he's just pretending to be nonchalant in front of others."

Li Muzi glanced at Gu Sinan out of the corner of her eye: "Could it be that the beautiful woman in the bar just now was President Xu's first love?"

Gu Sinan curled his lips and said disdainfully, "Impossible. Song Yilin's temperament is like a delicate white flower, while the one in the bar is like a thorny red rose. They can't be the same person. Besides, that woman is already married with children. She and her husband are very loving. It's impossible for them to be in Jianghai City. When we first broke up, I accompanied Xu Qingmin to Yishi to meet Song Yilin's husband. He looks completely different from Xu Qingmin. He's a handsome and refined man, the kind of man that girls like."

That day, Xu Qingmin got completely drunk. It was the first time I'd ever seen him so drunk. They had all planned how to get revenge on Song Yilin, but when they heard she was pregnant, they put it on hold for a while. Later, it seemed like Xu Qingmin had let it go, so he didn't bring it up again. Xu Qingmin has been single for so many years, so I guess he hasn't really let it go.

Li Muzi discerned a bold hypothesis: "Could it be that people's temperament changes as they get older?"

Gu Sinan said as if he were listening to a joke, "Impossible. That woman in the bar looks like she's been through the wringer in society for over a decade. Song Yilin's husband loves her so much, how could he bear to see her being tormented by this society like that?"

Li Muzi was only making a hypothesis, and hearing Gu Sinan's certainty, she didn't say anything more.

In the quiet night, Xu Qingmin poured himself another glass of wine.

Xu Qingmin's alcohol levels had mostly worn off, and looking at the night sky, he became increasingly clear-headed. Song Yilin's image had been absent from his mind for so many years, but today it kept recurring in his thoughts.

During her school days, Song Yilin was always the center of attention for both boys and girls. She was beautiful and kind to everyone.

Mingming, who wasn't particularly good at science, chose science because he liked chemistry. He and Song Yilin didn't have much interaction before. His grades were always in the top three of the grade. Song Yilin's grades were neither good nor bad, always in the middle. In their senior year of high school, there was an education reform, and the city didn't allow the division of key classes. Suddenly, a beautiful girl was assigned to the science class, and the boys in the science class were extremely excited.

The boys in the class would occasionally do all sorts of outrageous things to attract Song Yilin's attention. At that time, he despised these courtship behaviors and silently distanced himself from these boys.

Every week, the class would draw lots to rearrange the seating. One week in the senior year, he sat behind Song Yilin, while the class monitor, Shen Youheng, sat behind him. It was obvious that Shen Youheng had feelings for Song Yilin.

One day during a break between classes, Shen Youheng nudged him. He ignored it, so Shen Youheng nudged him again with more force. He turned around impatiently and asked, "What is it?"

Shen Youheng handed him a pink envelope, pointed to Song Yilin, and said in a low voice, "Give this to Song Yilin for me."

Xu Qingmin wrapped Shen Youheng's envelope in paper. He was very careful, afraid that his hands would touch the envelope. After looking it over, he reached out to touch Song Yilin, but then thought about it and withdrew his hand. He poked Song Yilin with a pen and then wiped his pen with a wet wipe.

Song Yilin, who was listening to music, took off one earphone and looked back. Her long, black hair cascaded down her sides like a waterfall, and she had a faint smile on her lips. Her bright eyes looked at him with a puzzled expression.

He handed the envelope from the class monitor to Song Yilin and said, "This is from the class monitor for you."

Unfortunately, his words were drowned out by the school bell.

Song Yilin glanced at the envelope and then at Xu Qingmin, her ears visibly turning red.

He was about to explain when the teacher came in and called for class to begin, so he swallowed his words.

After class started, his attention was focused on the lesson, and he completely forgot about the class monitor's letter.

After evening self-study, he wanted to go to the neighboring school to visit Gu Sinan by himself. In the alley, Song Yilin seemed to have been waiting for him for a long time.

Song Yilin didn't dare to look at her, her eyes were fixed on her clean white shoes, and her fingers were fiddling with the hem of her clothes.

Seeing Song Yilin's expression, Xu Qingmin remembered the letter from the class monitor earlier that day. Just as he was about to say something, Song Yilin seemed to be mustering a lot of courage: "Hello Xu Qingmin, you are very good, really very good, but right now all my attention is on the college entrance examination. I don't want to have a relationship. I'm sorry."

Then they ran away in a flash.

It seems that Song Yilin misunderstood that the letter was his.

But given his circumstances, why would Song Yilin refuse him? Although he didn't like Song Yilin either, being rejected like this suddenly ignited a fire within him for no apparent reason.

Is this the first time he's ever given a love letter and been rejected? Whether it was actually his love letter is another matter, but Song Yilin rejected him.

Is he really that bad, or is Song Yilin just blind?

The next day, when he returned to the classroom, the class monitor pulled him aside and asked, "Did you deliver that letter to me yesterday?"

Xu Qingmin pulled away from the class monitor's hand and said with a hint of schadenfreude, "She gave it to me, but she refused. She said she didn't want to be in a relationship."

Shen Youheng's face fell: "You refused?"

For some reason, Xu Qingmin felt a secret pleasure when he saw Shen Youheng's disappointed expression. Out of a sense of duty, he decided to finish his sentence: "However, Song Yilin thought that I was the one who delivered the letter, so she rejected me."

Shen Youheng's fighting spirit was rekindled, and his eyes shone. Xu Qingmin, not wanting him to be too happy, said, "When she said she didn't want to have a relationship early, she might have meant it to everyone."

He patted Shen Youheng on the shoulder, leaving him to think about whether to continue pursuing Song Yilin or wait until graduation.
