Chapter 37 Mutation

A dilapidated high-rise building, eerie and terrifying under the dim moonlight, resembled a vast tomb. It was filled with corpses, body bags stacked on every floor, emitting a chilling aura of death that seemed to freeze the soul. Most of them were innocent victims caught in the ravages of the disaster. Now, the bags were slowly wriggling, as if something sinister was struggling to break free.

The soldiers guarding outside were drawn to the sound, their nerves instantly tense. One soldier, looking pale, said to his comrade next to him, "Did you hear anything?"

"Don't fucking scare me! There are fucking dead people here, what's that noise?" The soldier said with some dissatisfaction, his voice obviously trembling, and cold sweat broke out on his forehead, as if he was shrouded in fear.

"Really, there was a noise inside just now, let's go check it out!" The soldier looked serious, his eyes full of fear, but more of a sense of mission, as if he was a fearless warrior.

"Really?" The soldier who had just cursed tightened the submachine gun in his hand and looked at the passage behind him anxiously, as if he was worried that something would suddenly attack from behind, his heart beating like a war drum.

"Well! Let's go take a look!" The soldier tightened his grip on the gun and took a deep breath, as if to suppress all his fear. "I'll go ahead, you follow!"

"Okay!" The two men kept looking around cautiously, their steps slow and heavy, as if each step was treading on the edge of a knife, as they slowly walked inside. With each step, their heartbeats quickened, and their breathing became more rapid.

Suddenly, a tall, dark figure rushed toward them at top speed, bringing with it a chilling wind, like a messenger of death. "What is that? Stop!" the soldier yelled in terror, his voice distorted, as if distorted by fear.

"Stop the fucking thing, or I'll shoot!" another soldier yelled, his finger already on the trigger, every muscle tense. Seeing the shadowy figure showed no sign of stopping, he quickly squeezed the trigger, and the bullets flew out with a swish, swish, swish! The sound of the volley instantly shattered the silence of the street. The firelight illuminated the dark corners, revealing the soldiers' terrified faces, as if they had just witnessed the end of the world.

The bullets hit the black shadow, splashing a string of sparks, but the black shadow's speed did not slow down at all. The two soldiers' faces turned pale and they kept retreating, but they did not dare to stop shooting for a moment, as if it was their last straw.
