Chapter 213 I Don't Like Being a Kept Man

With a thought, Mo Yan appeared on the quiet and eerie street the next moment.

A woman in red, her clothes intact but her eyes filled with terror, ran barefoot forward relentlessly.

He kept shouting for help.

All the houses nearby had their doors tightly shut.

Mo Yan was about to step forward to help the woman when he was restrained by a force.

Li Muge covered Mo Yan's lips and gestured for him to be quiet.

Mo Yan then continued to stare at the woman in red.

Unexpectedly, the once quiet city was suddenly shrouded in mist, and a sedan chair sucked the woman in red inside.

The woman's cries for help came to an abrupt end.

Once the fog cleared, Li Muge released Mo Yan.

"Sect Master, what are you doing? Why won't you let me go up and help her?"

"Are you all so stupid, Ten Thousand Buddhas Sect? Do you really think this woman is still alive? She's just bait thrown out by the murderer."

Li Muge groped his way out of the wall and stood up.

"If I'm not mistaken, a ghost king should be hiding in this city. After the murderer brutally killed the girl, he sacrificed her soul to the ghost king in order to gain even greater power."

"If that's the case, then why did the murderer gouge out those women's eyes?" Mo Yan asked softly, reflecting on their time together.

He seemed to have discovered that the sect leader of the Crimson Moon Sect was not as ruthless as others described.

Li Muge took a bite of the pancake: "You don't know this, do you? If we gouge out their eyes, these girls will never be able to find their way home again."

"As for why maggots were used to kill people, and why tendons were pulled out, I can't think of the murderer's motive for the time being."

The pancakes were taken out of Li Muge's storage bag and were still warm; she couldn't let herself go hungry.

"Would you like one? I have another." Li Muge chewed on a pancake while conjuring up another pancake, which she wrapped in an oil paper bag and handed to Mo Yan.

Mo Yan's eyes hesitated, showing some uncertainty.

"What, scared now!" Li Muge said with a smile. "I didn't intend to kill you. If I had, you would already be dead."

"Thank you." Mo Yan took the pancake from Li Muge, and the two sat on the rooftop chatting.

"Sect Master, what brings you to Yangcheng this time?" Mo Yan asked, turning his head.

Li Muge didn't hide anything from him. To her, Mo Yan was too weak now and was no match for her at all.

"To find an old friend."

"You're here to find the killer in these murder cases, right?"

"Yes, that's right. This murderer is too vicious. If he hadn't been caught soon, many more girls would have suffered."

Mo Yan resolutely blocked the railway.

“Yes, I also despise this bastard who only preys on women.” Li Muge said a few words to Mo Yan, then after some thought, asked, “Um, Mo Yan, have you ever wondered who your parents are?”

"Father and Mother," Mo Yan smiled, "I'm not curious. Since they chose to abandon me back then, what happens to me is none of their business anymore."

“But perhaps your parents had their reasons?” Li Muge subconsciously wanted to say a few words in defense of the Regent.

"There's no need for that. My master said that all things are empty, and all encounters and losses are due to fate."

"Sometimes I am quite grateful to them for abandoning me, otherwise how could I have met such a good master? My master treats me like his own child."

The guilt in Li Muge's heart was stirred up again.

She patted Mo Yan on the shoulder: "It's alright, brother. How about you treat me like family from now on?"

"It's fine to find a godmother or aunt."

Mo Yan: "..."

He chanted a spell and instantly landed on the ground.

Li Muge felt the emptiness beside her: "What's wrong? Mo Yan, why did you leave? Weren't we having a good chat?"

Mo Yan held a sandalwood prayer bead bracelet in his slender hand, without turning his head: "Sect Leader's mind isn't quite right. I'm afraid that if I get too close, I might catch it. What should I do?"

"I don't need a godmother or aunt, but I do need a daughter. If the sect leader insists on being related to me, why not let her take my surname?"

"How about my daughter?"

"You brat, how can you be so disrespectful?" Li Muge was so angry that he slipped and fell off the roof.

Mo Yan ran over when he heard the noise, wanting to catch Li Muge, but Li Muge snapped her fingers and instantly floated in mid-air.

It landed steadily on the ground.

"Mo Yan, you have no manners at all! Do you know what kind of relationship we have?"

"What relationship?" Mo Yan's expression changed: "Sect Master, you don't still want to keep me as a mistress, do you? I have never liked being a kept man."

Li Muge's face turned pale and then red. She was afraid that the regent's son was about to die and he would come to her in the middle of the night to talk about what to do.

"Impossible. Even if you wanted to live off a woman, I wouldn't give you the chance." Li Muge turned and left in the opposite direction from Mo Yan.

She held the jade pendant in her hand, and she had already released her spiritual sense to search for Little Peony.

Just when they had found nothing, they caught a whiff of Little Peony's scent in the sedan chair they had just been in.

Li Muge clenched her fists and held up a red oil-paper umbrella, on which was painted a fiery red phoenix playing with a pearl.

Walking in the night, like a phantom of the night.

Underground city.

Little Peony is tied up and locked in a room. She's so unlucky. She originally planned to escape to find Mu Ge, but unfortunately, she was targeted by the Ghost King.

The Ghost King had a blue face and fangs; Little Peony felt like vomiting just looking at him.

She refused.

The Ghost King locked her up here, saying he would only give her three days to consider it.

If she still refuses to marry the Ghost King after three days, throw her into a pile of insects.

Flowers are most afraid of insects.

Little Peony couldn't hold back her tears and huddled at the head of the bed: "What should I do? Mu Ge, I can't find you. I'm sure I'm going to die here now too."

---

next day

Another woman has died in Yangcheng.

The perpetrators killed a girl who was not yet sixteen years old right under Mo Yan's nose without anyone noticing.

The victim's mother knelt beside her daughter, weeping bitterly.

"My poor daughter, who is this damned devil who didn't take my life too?"

The moment Tan Shang squeezed into the crowd, the sight before him and the maggots crawling all over the girls' faces sent chills down his spine.

His face turned pale, and he ran to the side to vomit.

Although Mo Yan managed to hold on, his complexion wasn't very good.

Although Li Muge had been chasing after the Ghost King since last night, he couldn't find him no matter what.

She walked to the body.

He placed his hand on the woman's head, instantly recalling the girl's last memory.

In the last part of her memory, Li Muge saw a lake and a stone tablet.

"Sect Master." Seeing that Li Muge was not in a good state, Mo Yan grabbed Li Muge's wrist and pulled her out.

"What's wrong?" Li Muge's expression was sinister: "Boy, don't be disrespectful. If you keep dragging me along, believe me, I'll chop your hand off."

"Sect Master, I have a plan, and I need your help?" Mo Yan's voice was sincere.
