Chapter 82: The Gloom of Innsmouth (I)

Innsmouth, a small fictional American city located at the mouth of the Manuset River, was once prosperous before the Second Revolutionary War (American and Canadian). By 1927, when the story begins, it has become almost a large village. This place is always accompanied by some strange rumors, such as devil worship and demons running around in the streets. In fact, those who are familiar with these stories know that the rumors are usually true.

Moreover, this place is on the same map as the famous Arkham. The most basic common sense of the Cthulhu universe: Arkham has simple folk customs, and Seven Valley is warm and welcoming.

Innsmouth is also a place with simple folk customs. There are more than 400 kind and enthusiastic townspeople here. They kidnapped officials, refused to participate in the census, captured businessmen, and intimidated people who came to investigate. Their funds came from unknown sources, they liked to beat outsiders, held secret meetings in the middle of the night, and believed in cults.

But in fact, all of this is normal, because this universe is full of evil gods. Living here, it is normal to encounter mythical creatures when going out. It is normal to see an Old One floating in the sky. It is normal to have an Outer God fall in love with you... This is not normal.

In short, trust what you see. For example, if you see a piece of jewelry and think, "Wow, that's beautiful, but I've never seen anything like it," then if you're sensible, turn around and walk away immediately. Especially if you have a feeling it looks alien, don't hesitate. In Chen Jing's memory, eight out of ten protagonists in the "K" series were tricked this way. The remaining two either narrowly escaped death or were just aliases. Anything connected to the ancient world isn't a good thing.

Take the protagonist of The Darkness Over Innsmouth. His inspiration was clearly too high. Not only did he get tricked by the ticket seller into looking up information, but he also went to look at a crown, describing it like he was facing off against K. Later, he was so stubborn that he even faced the Deep Ones without turning back, insisting on going to Innsmouth. Who can you blame? It's his own fault. But then again, he's also a Deep One. Is this an attraction etched in our DNA?

Unfortunately, his knowledge of mythology was not enough. If it were a knowledgeable fan of the Cthulhu system, he would know that it was the nest of the Deep Ones when he heard that the Cult of Dagon was in charge there, and then he would return home in glory.

And now, the "mermaid" in front of Chen Jing, who is so ugly that it is shocking, with a fish head and a human body, is a resident of Innsmouth. Cthulhu, who had met Chen Jing once, asked him to receive Chen Jing.

The Cthulhu in this world fragment is just a projection, but these deep divers are real. Whether the protagonist, the deep divers, or the reincarnators, they all experience the same things again and again in the cycle of this story. Of course, the natives will not have any memory.

However, Chen Jing, who was with Yusa, was not panicked at all. He already knew the local god here, the biggest evil force.

The problem was the person next to him. Irelia.

"What do you want to do?" Chen Jing was a little panicked. Irelia's ability was related to the plan of another troublemaker.

"So, this is the power of God?" Irelia looked at the strange creature in front of her.

"You are asking about his words. Yes, it is the power of the gods."

As soon as Chen Jing finished speaking, the Deep One shouted, "Cthulhu!" Worried that Chen Jing and Irelia hadn't heard clearly, he repeated it, "Cthulhu!"

Irelia looked at him in confusion. "Where is this? I think there's something wrong with my connection. The person I'm connecting to can't catch up."

"Your connection partner is too weak." Chen Jing was a little bit unconvinced. He had heard Azathoth say that even if Chen Jing escaped to the depths of the multiverse, a normal god would be able to follow him as long as he had his aura. This was mainly used to collect debts.

"Huh? It's working really hard, okay? I let it devour those weak outer layer mayflies every day. It's really good to have grown to this point after six years."

Typically, a connector's connection target is around level ten. The connector simply borrows a portion of their power in exchange for being an anchor and a few random requests, let's call them offerings. But with Irelia, it becomes her job to support this outer-layer creature from its infancy to its full power.

Chen Jing's connection object is his own universe. Theoretically, it is a maximum level account, but his permissions have been divided up and he is no longer able to do anything.

"Speaking of which, I'm the one who's the worst off, right?" Chen Jing patted her shoulder and said, "How about I introduce you to someone new?"

"Hmm? You can introduce this, too? No, I just like this ability."

"Ice control, there are plenty of them. We have an elderly widower here who also does this. I can help you with that."

"An elderly person living alone?"

Chen Jing nodded and signaled the Deep Diver to go out and wait for a while. He didn't know the details of the Reincarnator yet, so it would be irrational to go out and look for someone. He could only take it step by step and solve the connection problem with Irelia first.

"I know a dead giant, Ymir (transliteration, other names may appear later), who possesses the power of ice." Unlike Chen Jing's memory, although the Ymir in this world view was killed by Odin and his friends, he turned into a macro will, similar to the "Way of Heaven", which constrained the rules of that world, including forcing Nidhogg to eat tree roots and the two wolves chasing the moon.

He is also in the group and is an administrator, named [Father of Giants]. Those who don't know him may think he is a provocation, but in fact most giants know him and respect him. This master giant was born from poison, possesses the power of ice, exaggerated power, creativity, and floods.

The relationship between Chen Jing and him began with a common theme—they were both quasi-creation gods, their powers were divided, and both were forced to step down. This gave them a lot in common, so it was natural for them to vent their frustrations. Furthermore, Chen Jing had been incredibly bored lately, while Ymir had been completely idle, so they were the primary contributors to the online chat, and their camaraderie was evident.

The relationship is strong enough, so this matter can be settled with just a word. It mainly depends on Irelia's side.

Her main concern is: "Is it strong?"

"Super strong."

"How strong is it!?"

"Stronger than you think."

Irelia looked at Chen Jing's face suspiciously, and hesitated for a moment: "Okay, I believe you, how do I connect?"

"Just chant your true name."

"What?"

"Ymir? Aurgelmir."

"What's going on!?" A smell of a rough man came from an unknown distance.

"No, help this little girl bind you."

"Okay! From now on, I can follow her and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Oh, my old friend, you are really..."

Chen Jing refused to listen. It was miserable to be so lonely that he had to hang out in the group chat every day. Today I will teach you a unique skill!

Irelia said: "Ymir? Aurgelmir." Then, she turned into light.
