“I came in again last night and found a herd of elk. I caught one,” Hong Gui said with a smile.
Chen Yang remained silent and helped him take the deer carcass.
"Don't do that next time. It's not worth it. It's exhausting, and you might even get frostbite."
"I'm tough, it'll be fine."
“It’s not a matter of whether you’re tough or not. If something happens to you, Li Sen will chop me up. Even if I give you a new spot in the Micro World, he’ll still nag me to death.”
“Oh, right, he certainly can.” Hong chuckled.
Chen Yang shook his head helplessly and quickly started a fire to boil water to warm him up.
“I stayed until dawn yesterday, and then I was kicked out of the micro-world. This is how it is when I leave, and it’s the same when I come back. It’s like only a second has passed.”
Hong Gui said to Chen Yang, his tone full of curiosity.
Chen Yang nodded. They had already guessed that time should have been frozen when they withdrew from the micro-world, and they had also conducted experiments to prove their guess.
"I'll light a few more fires," Wang Bing said.
“Hey Guizi, why did you come out of the closet? You’re such a manly person,” Li Su’er asked.
Hong Gui smiled; clearly, he wasn't the first person to ask him that question.
"Whether you prefer men or women has nothing to do with personality."
Everyone admired Hong Gui and Li Sen's frankness; there aren't many people in this society with such courage.
"Here, have a deer leg." Wang Bing roasted a piece of deer leg and handed it to Hong Gui, who took it and wolfed it down, clearly starving.
"Alien Yang, look."
Li Su'er pointed to a tree, where an animal was looking this way.
"It's a sable, but it's too far away to shoot," she said regretfully.
The ferret observed for a while before leaving.
However, Chen Yang and his group no longer lacked food, so they had no intention of catching it.
The fishing basket caught two small fish, which were made into fish soup. After a hearty meal of venison, they regained much of their strength.
"Venom won't spoil in winter, so just wash it and leave it. There's no time to smoke it, let's keep going."
Chen Yang said, then divided the venison into several portions, which everyone carried on their backs. Hong Gui insisted on carrying the largest portion, and Chen Yang did not stop him.
"Before we set off, let's continue practicing our boxing. Let's spar a bit first, go all out, it's okay."
Hong Gui nodded. He knew Chen Yang was a master after spending the past few days with him, so he wasn't worried about hurting Chen Yang.
He threw a punch the size of a clay pot, but Chen Yang easily dodged it, grabbed his wrist, and threw him away.
"Don't use brute force, learn to use your muscles, be able to contract and release them."
Hong Gui nodded, but he still didn't seem to understand.
"Let's practice boxing first and build a solid foundation."
After Chen Yang and Hong Gui practiced their boxing for a while, the group continued on their way.
After eating the venison, Xiao Hei seemed to get sleepy.
Chen Yang was somewhat helpless. Xiao Hei had never hibernated, which made it almost forget that bears have the habit of hibernating.
It's so different from its parents; her parents are still asleep.
Chen Yang had no choice but to resort to an alternative method: he would give Xiao Hei a piece of jerky every now and then. This proved to be very effective, significantly increasing its speed.
"Woo~"
"Woo~"
In the afternoon, a wolf howl suddenly rang out, causing them to stop in their tracks.
“We really do have a special connection with wolves,” Li Su’er said.
Having experienced facing a pack of wolves before, she was no longer as panicked as she had been the first time in Nightbury.
"Start a fire on the spot, pile up branches to make a protective wall, and judging from the sound, the wolf pack should still be far away."
Wolf howls can travel very far; hearing them doesn't mean the wolf pack is nearby. They have ample time to prepare.
Taking out his fire-starting equipment, Chen Yang started a fire within a minute, while the others gathered dry branches.
There happened to be a cliff nearby, and using the withered branches of the other side, they quickly built a defensive line.
Many trees collapse under the weight of snow in winter. Simply bring over a couple of trees and use dead branches to fill the gaps; it's very effective.
On the defensive line, the group leisurely grilled and ate meat.
Have you ever faced a pack of wolves?
While eating, Hong Gui couldn't help but ask.
Li Su'er immediately got excited and vividly recounted her two encounters with wolf packs. Hong Gui was completely captivated by her story and listened with wide eyes.
Chen Yang was too lazy to correct Li Su'er's exaggerations, and observed the surroundings with Wang Bing.
The wolf pack hasn't appeared yet; perhaps they haven't discovered them, or perhaps they're lying in wait.
Chen Yang was more worried about Xiao Hei's safety; otherwise, they could have withdrawn after replenishing their strength.
Although Xiao Hei is a bear and has a certain deterrent effect on wolves, it is ultimately too small, and the wolf pack might attack it if it goes berserk.
"This guy is sleeping soundly, though," Chen Yang said helplessly, looking at the sleeping Xiao Hei.
Xiao Hei is different from Ou Huang. Ou Huang is a citizen of the realm and can leave with him, but Xiao Hei cannot.
"Let's build more fires and surround it," Wang Bing said.
But Chen Yang shook his head.
Bears have a much stronger ability to withstand the cold than humans; Chen Yang had even heard of polar bears dying from the heat in the Arctic. Little Black was easily awakened by the heat and then moved outside the defensive line.
"Let's take turns keeping watch. Xiao Hei wakes up easily from the heat," Chen Yang said.
Wang Bing nodded, indicating that there was no problem. Hong Gui hadn't slept all night, so he definitely couldn't be asked to keep watch, and Li Su'er, being a girl, was even less suitable.
Anyway, they get enough sleep, so there's no need to worry about sleep deprivation.
"I'll take the first shift, you go to sleep. No need to tell them," Wang Bing said.
Chen Yang nodded and said, "Brother Wang, be careful and don't go beyond the defensive line."
"Don't worry, don't you know me?"
When everyone withdrew together, Wang Bing also pretended to withdraw, but in reality, he did not choose to withdraw.
After everyone had left, Wang Bing looked at Xiao Hei and muttered to himself, "I was hoping you could help, but you've become a burden."
The winter night was still; birds and beasts were reluctant to come out in the cold. Wang Bing silently warmed himself by the fire.
Fortunately, the location they chose was windproof, protecting them from the cold winter night winds.
However, after nightfall, the temperature was still too low, so Wang Bing simply leaned against Xiao Hei to keep warm.
It has to be said that Xiao Hei is really like a heater; even the heat from its breath is warm.
It woke up briefly, and upon seeing that it was Wang Bing, it changed its position and continued sleeping.
The fire crackled occasionally, and Wang Bing, leaning against Xiao Hei, fell asleep without realizing it. After he fell asleep, a dark shadow appeared above the cliff they were on.
Little Blackie, who was asleep, twitched his nose, as if he had sensed something.
After leaving, Chen Yang set an alarm before going back to sleep.
"Knock knock!"
There was a knock on his door. When Chen Yang woke up and opened the door, he saw Wang Bing's pale face.
"Chen Yang, I'm dead."
