Inside the campsite, the potatoes and corn are nearing maturity, and everyone has begun preparations for harvesting.
The renovation of the Xindu campsite has been completed, and the entire campsite has been transformed.
While we've always done some planning during construction, none of our projects have been designed with the same level of dedication as this one.
A pool has been built in the center of the camp, providing a place to rest and relax. Pebbles and stepping stones connect several houses and buildings. Several trees that had been transplanted with great effort have been planted throughout the camp, and some saplings have also been planted near some buildings.
The drying racks were also quite decorative. They even collected some plants, crushed them, and used them as paint to create artwork on several rooms. Some of the less elaborately constructed buildings were also replaced.
The pavilion was demolished and rebuilt, as was the woodshed; the fence was renovated, and the livestock shed was expanded. But they kept only the small wooden cabin. No matter how the microcosm changed in the future, this small cabin would always be where they started.
"I really hope Chen Yang and the others can come back to visit soon," Li Sen said to the camp.
“Let’s finish making those little things before they come back,” Jiang Bo said.
Inside the camp, they also made quite a few items, such as armchairs, pig-trough flower beds, trash cans, and corner shelves. These were all simple in structure, except for the armchairs, which required more effort.
Li Sen and Hou Yu referenced many designs by ancient and modern masters. They even included a hanging chair in the production process. If the roots of the newly transplanted tree hadn't been unstable, they definitely would have made a swing as well.
Now that the campsite renovation is complete, only a few people are needed to do the remaining small things, and everyone is focusing on the plants in the time acceleration zone.
"It's best not to have too high expectations; I don't think it will taste that good," Xiaoqi said, touching the smaller ears of corn.
Among the girls, Xiaoqi was the only one who didn't mind going into the time acceleration zone; the others would avoid it if possible.
Recently, Lucky and Little Black have been sneaking into the time acceleration zone and damaging several plants. They were given a good scolding and forbidden from entering.
Dogs and bears don't live as long as humans, especially dogs. Although we don't know what breed of dog the "European Emperor" is, we can't put it in the time acceleration zone. Everyone would rather the "European Emperor" grow up a little slower.
These two little guys are now practically the neighborhood's little devils. Catching chickens and rabbits is a regular occurrence for them, and they're always provoking animals. If they can't beat them, they'll use the traps they've dug. Their intelligence is off the charts.
These two little guys alone can feed four or five people in the camp. The reason why the people in the camp have been so relaxed and have so much free time lately is largely due to these two little guys. They still haven't finished eating all the rhinoceros meat.
Little Black is already showing signs of growing into Big Black, but it still regards the European Emperor as its boss and listens to him very much.
When Hou Yu and Li Sen designed the camp, they took the two little guys into account. They designed another shed for them near the entrance, which was big enough to accommodate them. Even when the little black dog grows into a big black dog, they won't be afraid. It can be a perfect doorman.
As for keeping warm, there's really no need. These two little guys have so much fun hopping around in the snow during winter.
The hunting team is still hunting every day and has a good harvest, which allows everyone to eat fresh meat every day. They try not to touch the smoked meat, since meat tastes better the longer it's smoked, so they'll smoke it as much as possible.
After the camp had enough manpower, Chen Yang's mother, Yang Yu, asked a few people to help her dig a fishpond so they could expand it.
Now everyone has fish and meat every day, but they only need to kill two or three fish a day. However, the number of fish in the fishpond is increasing day by day. They no longer need to use fishing traps because the fish in the fishpond are enough.
However, the drawbacks soon became apparent: as the number of fish in the pond increased, artificial feeding became necessary. The aquatic plants and microorganisms in the pond were simply insufficient.
Therefore, Yang Yu and Grandpa Yun decided to expand the fishpond.
The so-called expansion is actually just digging through the fishpond and several nearby puddles, and then building a dam. Although it is only spring now, they have to take into account the summer rainstorms.
Yun Hu and Xu Meng were overjoyed to see the state of the camp when they returned with apples. They then distributed the two baskets of apples to the people on the island in the middle of the lake and to everyone in the camp.
"Eat as much as you like. We've already made a lot of dried fruit and jam. There are still many apples on the Loess Plateau. Chen Yang and the others will bring some more when they come back."
Xu Meng said with a smile, and then took a few apples to feed the two little lambs.
Other animals don't get such good treatment; these two little lambs are the most precious to them right now.
After the deer were released to roam freely on the island, the feeding tasks at the camp became much easier. The chickens and ducks were all well cared for, and the rabbits could happily hop around every day.
The chicks and ducklings grew very quickly after hatching, and now the chicken and duck eggs are basically enough to meet the needs of the camp. They can eat some scrambled eggs and egg custard every day. Xiao Chenliu and Ding Aiqi, who are in their developmental stage, have also received special care and often eat boiled eggs.
"I miss my brother a little. It feels really strange not to see him all day, even though we can see each other in real life," Ding Aiqi muttered. If Ding Qihan knew what Ding Aiqi was saying, he would definitely be as happy as a flower.
There's no need to worry about the camp's development anymore. Once the plants mature, their food supply will be much more abundant, and they can even weave cloth from nettles.
After searching for three more days on the Loess Plateau, Chen Yang and his team finally made some progress. Over the past few days, they had reached an area that was no longer so desolate. They could see a lot of green plants, but not many living creatures.
Chen Yang's throwing knife did hit a skunk, but the skunk released a poison gas bomb before it died. There was no water source nearby to wash it off, so they luxuriously gave up on the skunk.
Over the past few days, apart from dried meat and some edible wild vegetables, there haven't been any special discoveries. Yesterday, however, we found a small stream, which provided us with clean water.
Only today have they made the discovery.
Just as guessed, there were indeed flocks of sheep on the Loess Plateau.
They discovered a large herd of goats, numbering in the dozens, along with a dozen or so cattle. They grazed leisurely, completely unaware of the people around them.
"Quick, hide downwind and don't get spotted," Chen Yang said hastily.
The group hid behind a mound, which was downwind, to ensure their scent wouldn't be blown over.
They sat together, discussing what to do.
They could kill a few as in a normal hunt, but that wouldn't mean much to them now; they preferred to capture them alive.
"I think it's enough to catch a few. Under these conditions, it's impossible for us to capture them all," Chen Yang said.
Ding Qihan looked up at the sky and said, "Chen Yang, we probably only have two days left. It might rain again."
The flocks of sheep and cattle are numerous, making them easy to track, and this is probably the only place in the vicinity where wild grass grows, so they shouldn't leave immediately.
The surrounding area was empty, with only a few sparse groves of trees and no usable resources. They didn't have two days to make any preparations, as their time was very limited.
"The only water source nearby should be that stream. Dad, Wang Qin, you keep an eye on it. Ding Qihan, Tang Jiaqi, let's go to the stream and see if there's any place we can use."
The group split into two teams and quickly began their operation.
