It is said that fathers and sons do not hold grudges overnight. After a night, Jiang Junqing's resentment had long since dissipated. He was just a little too embarrassed to take the initiative to talk to Jiang Defu.
Fortunately, Jiang Defu also felt guilty towards his son. As Jiang Junqing was getting up and washing up, he said in a neither soft nor hard tone, "Time to eat."
"I understand." Jiang Junqing paused in his brushing, then replied as nonchalantly as well.
At this point, the father and son had reconciled.
As Jiang Junqing left for school, he was as lively and energetic as ever, gesturing animatedly as he spoke to Lin Wangshu.
Wang Haiyang, who was on the rooftop, saw this scene and, being a talkative person, naturally had to say something to provoke them.
"Jiang Junqing, I heard you had a big fight with your dad last night. Not bad, you dared to resist. Let your dad know that where there is oppression, there is resistance! After all, even a cornered dog will jump over the wall!"
"I want to praise you, learn from you, and give you a big thumbs up!"
His words were ambiguous, leaving Jiang Junqing confused. He didn't catch the barb in his words and thought he was being genuinely praised. So he scratched his head and smiled sheepishly.
"Thank you... Ouch!"
Before he could finish speaking, Lin Wangshu, who couldn't bear to watch, stomped on his foot hard, making him jump around in pain while clutching his foot.
Wang Haiyang burst into laughter, while Jiang Junqing looked at Lin Wangshu with a wronged expression, "Little Moon, why did you step on me?"
"You're so stupid, you're hopeless." Lin Wangshu glared at him and muttered under her breath.
Then she turned her gaze to Wang Haiyang, who was watching the spectacle from the rooftop. His sharp eyes made Wang Haiyang feel uneasy, and he slowly stopped laughing.
Lin Wangshu then snorted coldly and said, "Wang Haiyang, you're a grown man, always gossiping about this and that, don't you have a foul mouth?"
"With the character 'sea' in their name, they meddle more than the ocean itself. Even if a manure carrier passes by your door, you have to taste the saltiness of his manure."
"Didn't your dad scold you all the time? He said way worse than my dad. I couldn't stand it even if I was in the next room. Why didn't you fight back then? Why didn't you jump over the wall?!"
Lin Wangshu didn't utter a single swear word, yet Wang Haiyang was filled with shame and indignation. He was so angry that he could barely speak, "Lin Wangshu, you, you, you've gone too far!"
Jiang Junqing only then realized that Wang Haiyang had just called him a dog, and he became so angry that his face turned red. He picked up a stone and threw it at him.
"Wang Haiyang, you're the dog! You bark the moment I step out the door; you're my watchdog!"
"Vulgar! You two are both vulgar!" Unable to argue with them, Wang Haiyang turned around and was about to climb down from the rooftop, not forgetting to retort, "You two are a perfect match, working together, I won't stoop to your level!"
Seeing Wang Haiyang get his comeuppance for the first time, Jiang Junqing looked at Lin Wangshu with sparkling eyes, "Little Moon, you're really amazing, even more amazing than your older brother."
He and Jiang Guoqing suffered a lot at Wang Haiyang's hands, often being fooled by his few words and ending up making fools of themselves without even realizing it.
"Jiang Junqing, you want to get beaten up again, don't you?" Jiang Guoqing had just approached from behind when he heard his good younger brother putting him down, and he was so angry that he slapped him on the head.
Jiang Junqing, caught off guard by being overheard, covered his head and mumbled guiltily, "I'm telling the truth."
Lin Wangshu couldn't help but chuckle to herself, but Jiang Guoqing was even angrier. "Shouldn't you just tell the truth? You traitor, give me back my things!"
"No, you promised to let me play with it, you can't go back on your word."
The two brothers bickered and teased each other all the way, while Lin Wangshu watched from behind, shaking his head with amusement, and followed slowly.
It's said that old habits die hard, and Jiang Guoqing and Jiang Junqing both seem a bit silly, so Wang Haiyang finds it hard to resist teasing them.
But he learned his lesson and knew he couldn't afford to offend Lin Wangshu and Yafei. One of them was eloquent, and the other was feisty, and they always left him in a sorry state.
So, from the rooftop, he kept an eye out for the two brothers when he finally spotted them alone and immediately called out to them.
At first, the two were wary, but Wang Haiyang's nitpicking and over-interpretation of their names successfully aroused their desire to change them.
So when Lin Wangshu saw Jiang Junqing again, he had become Jiang Weidong.
Lin Wangshu knew at a glance that Wang Haiyang was behind it, but she was quite satisfied with the name Jiang Weidong, so she decided to let him off the hook for now and settle old scores later.
Days passed by leisurely, the summer heat was intense, and even the sea breeze blowing across the island carried heat, making the islanders even more restless.
The school held a "Remembering the Bitter Past and Appreciating the Sweet Present" rally. Lunch was changed to wild vegetable dumplings and "bitter past rice," which everyone had to eat, as a way of remembering the blood and tears of hatred.
But the Jiang family children had been eating refined rice and white flour since they were young, and they found it difficult to swallow such coarse and unpalatable food.
Yafei didn't know how to hide it at all; she frowned, patted her chest, and swallowed, looking extremely pained.
When someone with ulterior motives saw this, they naturally thought it was reactionary and went to Jiang Weiguo to complain.
Jiang Weiguo remained silent for a while, looking at Yafei for a long time before turning his head away. Then, he set an example by filling a large bowl with the "bitter rice" and taking many wild vegetable dumplings.
Then he approached Yafei, sternly telling her to watch her expression, and gave her a few wild vegetable dumplings.
That wasn't all. He also glanced at Lin Wangshu's rice bowl and was only barely satisfied when he saw that there was a decent amount of food in it.
Yafei was so hungry she was almost in tears, but she was afraid of her older brother and didn't dare show it. She just muttered curses at Jiang Weiguo for being inhuman.
Lin Wangshu felt sorry for her younger sister, sighed, and whispered in her ear, "Give me some of your 'bitter memories' meal, and I'll eat it for you."
