Seven years later, Lin Wangshu was walking home slowly with her schoolbag on her back when she saw Jiang Guoqing leading her younger brother and sister-in-law toward her, looking menacing and hostile.
Lin Wangshu asked in confusion, "What are you all doing here?"
Jiang Junqing clenched his fist and roared, "Go get revenge!"
"What revenge? Whom should we take revenge on?"
Jiang Minqing cried out, "I'm looking for Hou Chengnan and Hou Chengbei. They've been bullying me."
Seeing that he was soaking wet and smelled terrible, Lin Wangshu couldn't help but cover her nose and ask him, "Minqing, what happened to you?"
Seeing this, Jiang Minqing cried even harder, sobbing and unable to utter a single word.
Seeing his pathetic state, Yafei got angry and said to him harshly, "Cry, cry, cry! All you do is cry! They've already peed on you, and instead of hitting them, you just cry in front of us. What good is that?"
Lin Wangshu understood, and her face flushed red with anger: "This is too much!"
Jiang Guoqing gripped the brick in his hand and said impatiently to Jiang Minqing, "Alright, stop crying. Take me to him."
Seeing this, Lin Wangshu instinctively felt something was wrong. Jiang Guoqing seemed determined to fight until blood was drawn, so she quickly reached out to stop him: "Brother, don't be hasty. They are the sons of martyrs. If you hurt them, Dad will definitely beat you to death!"
Jiang Guoqing, his neck stiff, said coldly, "So, we're just going to let it go like this?"
Jiang Junqing chimed in, "That's right, they need to be taught a lesson!"
Lin Wangshu was also in a bit of a predicament. She couldn't fight the Hou brothers, but she also didn't want to let them go so easily. After thinking about it, she came up with an idea.
Lin Wangshu smiled and said to the angry and battle-ready crowd, "I have a plan. We don't need to fight him; I can make the Hou brothers look bad in public!"
Seeing that they didn't believe her, Lin Wangshu added, "Oh, don't worry, I'll definitely make them lose face even more than Minqing."
He then took the bricks from their hands, threw them away, and pushed them home.
"Let's go, Minqing stinks horribly, he'll get pickled if he doesn't take a shower soon! I'll tell you all about it when we get home."
Once home, Lin Wangshu urged Jiang Minqing to take a shower, and then the brothers and sisters gathered in Guoqing and Minqing's room to discuss their plans!
In the kitchen, Dehua, pulling the bellows, asked curiously, "Why are these kids so well-behaved today?"
Anjie chuckled as she chopped vegetables: "Isn't quiet good enough? You'd be hoping they'd go out and cause trouble, wouldn't you?"
Dehua shook his head: "Sister-in-law, you don't understand. They're probably up to no good and are waiting to cause some big trouble!"
Inside the room, Lin Wangshu had finished explaining her plan in detail, and for a moment no one spoke.
After a long while, Yafei clicked her tongue and exclaimed, "Big sister, that's too mean!"
Lin Wangshu rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Who am I doing this for?"
Upon seeing this, Yafei quickly smiled ingratiatingly at her, "Sister, I was just praising you!"
Jiang Junqing suddenly chuckled, then, seeing everyone looking over, suppressed his laughter and said, "Just thinking about how embarrassed they'll look makes me want to laugh!"
Jiang Guoqing was also very excited. He clapped his hands to signal everyone to be quiet and said, "Comrade Lin Wangshu's battle plan is perfect. Let's start executing it tonight and teach them a lesson tomorrow!"
At the dinner table that evening, Jiang Defu took a bite of his steamed bun. Looking at the children behaving so peacefully, he wondered aloud and asked Jiang Guoqing, "Have you gotten your younger siblings into trouble again?"
Jiang Guoqing cried out that he was innocent: "I didn't."
The younger children nodded in agreement.
Jiang Defu was still somewhat skeptical. He always felt that these kids were up to no good. An Jie tapped the bowl with some dissatisfaction.
"Can't you just hope the kids are doing well for once?!"
After saying that, she announced, "Mom will reward each of you with a peach shortbread tomorrow."
The children all shouted, "Long live Mom!"
When it was completely dark, Guoqing and Junqing, each carrying a bag, sneaked out of the house, jingling and clanging. Lin Wangshu followed quietly behind them. When they reached the main road, she called out to them.
Jiang Junqing was startled. "Little Moon, what are you doing here!"
Ever since Jiang Junqing heard An Jie talk about how ancient poets often used Wang Shu to refer to the moon in their Chinese class, he has always liked to call her that.
Lin Wangshu tugged at his sleeve and said coquettishly, "Second brother, take me with you. I promise I won't hold you back."
Jiang Junqing hesitated for a moment, unable to refuse her, and looked to his elder brother for help.
Jiang Guoqing thought for a moment and agreed, "Many hands make light work, let's go and come back quickly."
They also met Zhao Jianguo on the way. Jiang Guoqing had called him over, and Zhao Jianguo immediately offered to help.
Lin Wangshu was in high spirits the whole way; the feeling of secretly doing bad things together was very exciting.
Once they reached the open space they had chosen, they emptied the empty cans from their pockets and buried one at intervals, ensuring that the Hou brothers would inevitably step on one the next day.
After they finished burying everything, they prepared to call it a day and go home. Jiang Guoqing and Zhao Jianguo went ahead, while Lin Wangshu was a little tired and couldn't walk that fast, so Jiang Junqing accompanied her and followed at a distance.
Lin Wangshu suddenly saw a light and a figure squatting there burning something. She thought someone was burning paper money. It was late at night, and Lin Wangshu was a little scared. She tugged at Jiang Junqing and pointed to the light, signaling him to look over.
Jiang Junqing looked at it and shouted, "Who's there?" The person was so frightened that he ran away. Lin Wangshu looked like Ge Erniang from the fishing village. Recently, the winds from outside have blown to the island. Her son, Ge Hongbing, is very active and stirs up trouble everywhere. I didn't expect his mother to be involved in feudal superstition.
Lin Wangshu pulled Jiang Junqing over and found that what was being burned were clothes, not completely burned, and the fabric still felt quite good. Jiang Junqing was a little puzzled, scratching his head and asking, "Why did she burn clothes?"
