Lin Wangshu and her troupe were about to leave Shixia Village, but she still had Jiang Weimin on her mind.
For someone like Jiang Weimin, who is easily swayed and easily influenced, we need to reassure him.
"Big sister, what will I do if you leave and leave me here all alone!"
Jiang Weimin looked utterly hopeless, wailing loudly at Lin Wangshu, but all he did was make a lot of noise without actually doing anything.
"Look at how pathetic you are!"
Lin Wangshu couldn't help but roll her eyes at his pretentious act.
"Alright, stop howling. Come with me, I'm going to make a phone call home, you listen in!"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Weimin felt as if he had seen a glimmer of hope, and immediately beamed with joy.
After arriving at the village committee with Jiang Weimin, Lin Wangshu smiled at the village chief and said, "Uncle Shouren, we'd like to use the village phone, is that alright?"
The village chief smiled kindly when he heard her call him "uncle," and said, "Of course, we're all family, use whatever you like!"
Lin Wangshu picked up the phone and called home. A familiar female voice answered.
"Hello, this is Songshan Island. Where will you be picked up?"
Recognizing Yafei's voice, Lin Wangshu smiled, "Yafei? I'd like to bring her to your home."
Yafei exclaimed in surprise, "Big sister! Wait for me, I'll get it for you right away."
Soon, An Jie's voice came from the other end, "Hello?"
"Mom, it's me, Wangshu!"
"Wangshu?" An Jie exclaimed excitedly, then quickly called to Jiang Defu, "Come here quickly, your eldest daughter called."
Jiang Defu was tending to his vegetables outside when he heard the call. He immediately put down his hoe, ran to answer the phone, and shouted, "Is this Wang Shu? Has something happened?"
"Dad, this isn't my problem, it's Weimin's problem."
When Jiang Weimin heard her call him "Dad," he sneakily moved closer to try and eavesdrop.
On the other side, Jiang Defu calmed down after hearing that it was about Jiang Weimin. "What happened to him?"
Lin Wangshu told him the story in a few words.
Jiang Defu snorted, "That Jiang Weimin is such a lazy bum, he should be sent to the countryside for some reform!"
When Jiang Weimin heard this, his head immediately drooped.
An Jie felt sorry for the child and slapped Jiang Defu, saying, "I told you a long time ago to transfer the child back to me, but you just promised and didn't do anything."
"Luckily, Wang Shu went to see him this time, otherwise my Weimin would have been ruined by you!"
Jiang Defu felt guilty. He thought he would let Weimin get more experience in Shixia Village, but he didn't expect that just a few days would almost make him stay there for the rest of his life.
"Alright, I'll get it done for him right away, okay?"
Anjie glared at him and snatched the phone from his hand. "Wangshu, tell Weimin to be careful. Your father will transfer him back immediately."
Jiang Weimin answered the phone with tears in his eyes, crying out, "Mom!"
That cry melted An Jie's heart. She kicked Jiang Defu, who was sitting next to her, and yelled, "Hurry up and get things done for the child!"
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Weimin felt much better and was so smug he felt like he could fly.
Lin Wangshu sighed as she watched his animated expression. "You're just planning to go back like this?"
Jiang Weimin scratched his head. "Then how should I reply?"
"Don't be so happy. If you act like this, everyone will know that something good has happened to you."
"What other good thing could happen to you besides being transferred?"
"If those people find out, you can forget about leaving here peacefully!"
Lin Wangshu patiently analyzed it for him, word by word.
Jiang Weimin nodded as if he understood, "I understand."
Lin Wangshu is leaving tomorrow, and she pulled Jiang Weimin aside to give him detailed instructions.
"When you get back, give all your documents to your second aunt for safekeeping, otherwise they might get stolen one day."
"Also, you must not tell anyone about your transfer; you must act as if nothing is wrong."
"Finally, when you leave, do so quietly and discreetly, without making a fuss or showing off."
Lin Wangshu was afraid he wouldn't take it seriously, so she threatened him again, "If you can't do even one of these things, you'll have to grow old and die here for the rest of your life."
Jiang Weimin nodded vigorously, no longer daring to show any smugness on his face.
The next day, Xu Qing stood at the village entrance, watching the departing troupe. As if he had finally sent away a plague, a relaxed smile appeared on his face.
Xu Qing glanced at the saddened Jiang Weimin and walked over. "Weimin, how are things? Did your dad say when you're being transferred back?"
Hearing him ask that question, alarm bells went off in Jiang Weimin's mind, and a bitter smile appeared on his face.
"Sigh, no news yet. My dad said I should stay here and train for a few more years."
Xu Qing patted him sympathetically, then her eyes lit up as she offered him a suggestion, "Why don't you find someone here, and once you have a child, your dad will probably transfer you back here for the sake of his grandson, right?"
Jiang Weimin recalled Lin Wangshu's words, "I'll grow old and die here!"
This startled him so much that his hair stood on end. He swallowed hard and refused, saying, "Never mind, I won't hold the girl back."
Xu Qing didn't mind his refusal; there was plenty of time in the future!
Jiang Weimin lived in fear for several days, but seeing that no one seemed to be watching him, he unconsciously relaxed his vigilance.
Jiang Defu acted quickly, writing to Jiang Weimin to prepare to return to Qingdao.
Jiang Weimin, holding the long-awaited letter, went straight to the village committee to ask the village chief to write him a letter of introduction.
When everything finally settled down, Jiang Weimin couldn't contain his joy.
When they arrived at the educated youth settlement, there was still a hint of joy in their eyes and brows.
