Chapter 64 Aphie eavesdrops on the phone

After the announcement of the resumption of the college entrance examination, the first college entrance examination came unexpectedly, just two months later, in the winter of 1977.

While those around her were frantically preparing, Lin Wangshu had already reviewed everything and was quite confident.

Shen Jiaojiao's father was well-informed and had long been pressuring her to return to the capital, intending for her to take the college entrance examination there.

As for Song Jing, her family was poor when she was young, and she didn't have much schooling. She was already very grateful to be able to join the performing arts troupe.

Moreover, her brother Xiaoshan has been working at Jiangcheng Steel Plant for some time now, and the plant is planning to allocate him a house. Song Jing is waiting for that day to bring her mother from the countryside so that the three of them can live together.

He Xiao had a headache from the sight of books since she was a child, and her father began to worry about her marriage. He arranged a job for her in his factory and sent her home to wait for marriage.

When Jiang Defu and An Jie learned that Lin Wangshu wanted to take the college entrance exam, they were very worried about her being alone in Jiangcheng, so they sent her back to Songshan Island to prepare for the exam in peace.

All good things must come to an end, and the four of them could only bid each other farewell with tears in their eyes.

After Lin Wangshu returned home, she began to live a life of ease, with everything done for her. Dehua completely forgot about Lao Ding and cooked different dishes for her every day.

Even when Yafei occasionally came home, she would unconsciously lower her voice, because Anjie was like a living decibel meter. Anyone who spoke a little too loudly would get a glare from her, so she had to make sure that Lin Wangshu had a quiet learning environment.

This left Lin Wangshu somewhat amused and exasperated. She tried to advise An Jie, but An Jie wouldn't listen. So Lin Wangshu could only pray that the day of the college entrance exam would come quickly, otherwise An Jie might become so nervous that she would get sick.

A few days before the college entrance examination, Anjie started packing her things; she was going to leave the island to accompany her to the exam!

"Old Jiang, go and get Wang Shu's exam admission ticket. I need to put it away properly."

"I think it's going to snow in a few days, so I'll bring the dog-skin rug that Weiguo sent me too!"

When Lao Ding and Dehua arrived, this was the chaotic scene they saw. An Jie was not only busy herself, but also keeping Jiang Defu and Lin Wangshu running around like crazy, afraid that something might be left behind.

"Tsk tsk tsk, your house looks like it's been through a war zone." Old Ding exclaimed, looking at Jiang Defu.

Jiang Defu was displeased with his leisurely posture with his hands behind his back. "Are you just going to stand by and watch? Don't you know how to help? This is your niece's college entrance exam!"

Dehua had already rolled up his sleeves to help Anjie, leaving Lao Ding isolated and helpless, so he could only reluctantly go and help.

At the same time, she couldn't help but complain about Jiang Weidong, "Weidong, his fiancée is about to take the college entrance exam, and he doesn't even say he's coming back. Wangshu, you have to talk to him!"

Lin Wangshu smiled and said to Lao Ding, "Uncle, Weidong hasn't started his vacation yet, so he really can't come back. I'll have to trouble you to take care of me for him."

"You little girl, you're not even married yet and you're already protecting me. Besides, you don't need me to take care of you. Your parents already treat you like a treasure."

Jiang Defu was displeased to see that Lao Ding hadn't done much work but had talked a lot. "You old Ding, I brought you here to help, not to sow discord."

Old Ding snorted, but before he could say anything, the phone rang. Since he was right next to him, he answered it without thinking.

"Hello, is this Wangshu?" It was Jiang Weidong's excited voice.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you, no, I'm your uncle-in-law," Old Ding replied deliberately when he heard him come up looking for Wang Shu.

Although Jiang Weidong was indeed disappointed, he was very sweet-talking. "I'm not disappointed at all. I was just about to look for you. I've found some Xuan paper for you in the capital. I'll bring it to you when I get back."

When Old Ding heard that it was Xuan paper from the capital, his smile became much more genuine. "Good lad, as long as you haven't forgotten your uncle, that's good. Wait here, I'll call Wang Shu for you."

Lin Wangshu blushed as she answered the phone and said "hello." Jiang Weidong hadn't heard her voice in a long time, and his expression was unusually gentle.

"Wang Shu, did you miss me?" Jiang Weidong's tone rose, clearly in a good mood, and then he waited quietly for her reply.

With four elders around, Lin Wangshu, her ears turning red, whispered into the microphone, "Jiang Weidong, be serious, I have people with me!"

Before Jiang Weidong could reply, a soft chuckle suddenly came from the receiver.

"Jiang Yafei, you're eavesdropping again! You wait until I get back!" Jiang Weidong heard this and immediately knew who it was, angrily shouting into the microphone.

"Yafei? Is that you?" Lin Wangshu felt embarrassed when he realized that Yafei had heard what he just said, so he quickly asked tentatively with a glimmer of hope.

Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. A laugh came from the phone, "I'm so sorry, it really is me. Don't worry, I won't listen anymore, hahaha."

"By the way, second brother, my second sister-in-law misses you very much. I saw that the other day she wrote your name all over the paper."

Lin Wangshu was now truly mortified. "Ahhhhh, Jiang Yafei, shut up!"

"Really? Wangshu, I miss you so much too. I'll be back next month!"

Jiang Weidong was thick-skinned and didn't care if others overheard him. Upon hearing Yafei's words, he excitedly told Lin Wangshu about his longing for her.

Unfortunately, Lin Wangshu was too shy to accept it, so she could only vaguely say, "Okay, I understand, I'll hang up now."

Jiang Weidong listened to the dial tone on the other end of the phone and sighed with some regret. He hadn't even wished him good luck on the college entrance exam.

After hanging up the phone, Lin Wangshu felt her face burning red. An Jie came over and asked her, "Why did you hang up so quickly? What did Wei Dong say?"

"He didn't say anything," Lin Wangshu said awkwardly, touching her braid.

An Jie didn't believe it. The two hadn't seen each other for so long, how could they hang up the phone so quickly? Looking at Lin Wangshu's unnatural face, she seemed to guess what was going on.

"It must be that Yafei who's been eavesdropping again! That girl is really outrageous, she's even eavesdropping on your phone calls."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Defu sternly said to Lao Ding, "I'm telling you, Deputy Chief of Staff Ding, you're not doing a proper job of managing things."

Old Ding stood with his hands behind his back, looking completely unconcerned. "I can't control that. It's the tradition of their switchboard."

In the switchboard room, Yafei was clutching her stomach and laughing heartily, finding her brother and sister-in-law's phone calls more amusing than anyone else's.

"Yafei, aren't you afraid your second brother will punish you when he gets back?"

Yafei shook her head with a profound expression. "You don't understand my eldest sister. She's the most soft-hearted towards me. She'll stop it for me."

The person who spoke nodded knowingly, then said regretfully, "It's a pity your second brother is coming back next month, otherwise we could listen a few more times. It's even more interesting than your mother's phone calls."

"Even if he doesn't come back, we won't be able to hear him anymore. My older sister probably won't even want to answer the phone at home!"

Yafei slapped her thigh in annoyance, "Why couldn't I hold back my laughter!"
