Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw Jiang Weimin standing at the door with a bag in his hand, followed by Ya Ning. The two of them were smiling at everyone.
“They have it, but you don’t,” Jiang Weidong said to Jiang Weimin as he walked over, took the bag from Ya Ning’s back.
After hearing this, Jiang Weimin said to him with a bitter face, "Why? Second brother, you're being too biased!"
As Jiang Weidong passed by him, he sneered, "Me, being biased? All the money I sent you, did you just throw it away to the dogs?"
Ya Ning's eyes darted around, and she figured out why her second brother was angry. She nudged Jiang Weimin's arm and whispered, "Your eldest sister came all the way from Jiangcheng to Dad's hometown for you, so of course your second brother is angry with you."
Jiang Weimin suddenly realized what he had done, and feeling guilty, he shrank back and silently carried his luggage into the house.
Yafei affectionately linked arms with Ya Ning, and the two whispered secrets to each other, their heads close together.
It was rare for the whole family to be together like this, and Anjie was overjoyed. She called Yafei over and said, "Go to your uncle's house and have them bring Xiaoyang over for dinner."
Back inside, Jiang Weidong took out the gifts he had bought for everyone from his bag, including a box of Daoxiangcun pastries.
Although Jiang Weimin looked like a grown man, he still couldn't help but drool over the snacks he had never seen before.
Jiang Weidong snorted at his spineless appearance and tossed the box of pastries in his hand to him.
"Ya Ning, these are for you." Jiang Weidong took out four books and handed them to her. They were hardcover editions of the Four Great Classical Novels, complete with illustrations.
These four books are quite heavy, and I wonder how much stuff is inside them. No wonder Yafei couldn't lift them.
Ya Ning exclaimed in surprise and quickly took it, "Thank you, Second Brother! Long live Second Brother!"
"Alright, alright, you've all received your gifts, can you leave now?" Jiang Weidong found them in his way and started waving them away.
Ya Ning looked at Lin Wangshu sitting at the table, understood, and smiled meaningfully, "I understand, we'll go out now and won't disturb you any longer."
After saying that, he pushed Jiang Weimin, whose mouth was stuffed full, out of the room. Jiang Weidong nodded in satisfaction. Among his younger siblings, there were still some who could read the room.
"Where's my gift?" After the two of them left, Lin Wangshu stretched out her hand to him, smiling as she asked for it.
Jiang Weidong took her hand, a smile playing on his lips, and said mysteriously, "Close your eyes first."
Lin Wangshu's appetite was whetted, and she closed her eyes, waiting for his gift.
There was a rustling sound, and Lin Wangshu felt a chill on her fingers. Her heart skipped a beat. Could it be that this wasn't what she thought?
Before Jiang Weidong could speak, Lin Wangshu quickly opened her eyes and then noticed that a gold ring was being worn on her hand.
When she looked up again, Jiang Weidong was smiling at her, his eyes shining like tiny stars in the sky.
"Wangshu, my moon, from now on, please shine only on me, the monkey, okay?"
When Jiang Weidong was a child, he heard An Jie tell the story of the monkeys trying to catch the moon in the water. After class, his friends laughed at the monkeys trying to catch the moon in the water.
Only Jiang Weidong understood them; how could the bright, full moon in the sky remain alone in the deep well?
If it were him, he would definitely craft a beautiful wooden basin, ask the moon to stay, and accompany it day and night.
When Lin Wangshu heard his foolish words, she covered her mouth and laughed, and told him that nothing can hold onto the moon, no matter how hard you try.
When Jiang Weidong grew up, although he realized that what he said back then was foolish, he had already found someone who was no less beautiful than the moon in the sky.
Jiang Weidong wanted this bright moon to shine only on him forever, and to love only him forever.
Memories flooded back, and Lin Wangshu understood his words. Her nose tingled, tears welled up in her eyes, and she suddenly opened her arms to hug him, her voice choked with emotion, "Okay, I promise you."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Weidong felt a weight lift from his shoulders, as if a stone had been lifted from his heart. His eyes and brows lit up with joy as he hugged the person in his arms tightly.
Who says the monkey trying to catch the moon is just wishful thinking? He actually caught a particularly beautiful moon.
"When I get back, I'll go and file for marriage!" Jiang Weidong said excitedly, holding her close.
Lin Wangshu nodded silently at the side of his neck. Jiang Weidong felt it, chuckled, and turned his head to kiss her red earlobe.
It got lively outside. Jiang Defu came home from get off work and saw that almost all of his children who had been away from home were back. He laughed loudly and heartily.
"Where's Weidong? His father is back, but I haven't seen him anywhere."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Weidong reluctantly released Lin Wangshu and called out, "Dad, I'm looking for a gift to bring you!"
He took a box out of his bag, pushed open the door, and handed it to Jiang Defu, saying, "This is a watch I bought for you. You won't need to wind it up anymore."
Jiang Defu accepted the gift. He never expected to receive a gift from his own children. His eyes reddened slightly, and he patted Jiang Weidong on the shoulder, saying, "Good son!"
Lin Wangshu, inside the room, touched the ring on her hand, thought for a moment, then found a red string to string it together and put it around her neck.
"Come here, everyone! Let's make dumplings together! No one gets to eat if they don't make them!"
A shout came from outside. Lin Wangshu touched the ring inside her clothes and went out.
Anjie picked up a dumpling wrapper, looked at the children around her, and smiled with satisfaction and happiness.
But then she thought of her eldest son, Jiang Weiguo, who was no longer with her. An Jie couldn't help but sigh.
"Mom, so many people are spending the New Year with you, aren't you happy? You're still sighing, you're so ungrateful!"
