Chapter 72 Father-Son Conversation

If it were a few years ago, Jiang Weidong might have jumped up in anger, but he has matured a lot now. Although he doesn't understand, he still suppresses his dissatisfaction.

Trying to remain calm, ask Jiang Defu, "Why? Wang Shu has already agreed."

Seeing that he didn't lose his temper, Jiang Defu was somewhat surprised. A look of satisfaction flashed in his eyes. He then leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms, and said, "You jokingly called me father-in-law back then, so today I'll ask you a question as your father-in-law!"

"Let me start with something practical. You want to marry Wang Shu, so where do you plan to have her live after the marriage?"

"Do you both live in dormitories? When you see each other, is it inconvenient for her to stay in a guesthouse?"

Jiang Weidong was speechless. He opened his mouth, wanting to say that things would be better after he graduated, when he could make further progress and give Wang Shu a better life.

But that's all in the future; right now, he has nothing.

Jiang Defu added another harsh dose of advice: "Wang Shu is still a student. What if she gets pregnant after you get married? Are you going to make her give up her studies and have a baby?"

His father's words made a lot of sense, and Jiang Weidong had to admit that he didn't want to wrong Lin Wangshu or ruin her studies.

Since that's the case, they can't get married yet. After figuring that out, Jiang Weidong looked somewhat dejected.

Seeing that he had come to his senses, Jiang Defu breathed a sigh of relief, but also felt a little reluctant. He stood up, walked to Jiang Weidong's side, and patted him heavily on the shoulder.

"Silly son, marriage is not as easy as you think. You need to provide your loved one with a solid support and have the ability to raise children. The burden on your shoulders will be very heavy!"

"I know you are excellent and will definitely be more successful than me in the future!" This was the first time Jiang Defu expressed his satisfaction as a father to Jiang Weidong.

Jiang Weidong looked up in surprise. Jiang Defu looked at him with expectation in his eyes, "Then wait a few years. After you graduate and settle down, wouldn't it be better to get married then?"

As expected of an old fox, Jiang Defu's few words successfully made Jiang Weidong hesitate. He couldn't help but smile wryly, "You really treat me like a son-in-law."

Jiang Defu sighed, "Wang Shu's father and I were comrades-in-arms who went through thick and thin together. We both promised that if one of us sacrificed our lives, we would take care of the other's family."

“Although Wang Shu’s father did not die on the battlefield, I cannot forget our promise. Moreover, even if I had died back then, your Uncle Lin would have treated you as his own children.”

Finally, Jiang Defu laughed again, "Besides, compared to your mischievous son, I naturally prefer a beautiful and well-behaved daughter like Wangshu."

It was rare for Jiang Weidong to have such a heart-to-heart talk with Jiang Defu. He nodded to his father and said, "Dad, I understand what you mean."

On the other side, Lin Wangshu delivered the documents to Lao Ding's office. Lao Ding was surprised to see her, but after taking the documents, he teased, "Wangshu, how come you've become your dad's errand boy?"

"It's my honor to run errands for Commander Jiang!" Lin Wangshu stood in front of the desk, smiling as he flattered Jiang Defu.

"You little rascal!" Old Ding was amused by her and smiled broadly. He looked down and flipped through the documents, but as he looked, he realized something was wrong.

Then, as if casually asking her, he asked, "Wang Shu, you didn't come alone, did you?"

Lin Wangshu nodded, "Wei Dong and I are here to bring food to my dad."

Old Ding understood; Jiang Defu was asking him to stall Lin Wangshu.

So Lao Ding slowly began to look at the documents, while also saying to Lin Wangshu, "You sit down first, I'll look at them for a while, and after I sign them, you can take them back to your dad."

Lin Wangshu had no suspicions. "Take your time and look around. I'll wait."

After sitting on the sofa for a while, Lin Wangshu became a little anxious, still worried about Jiang Defu's strange behavior.

Thinking back now, he probably wanted to transfer her away so he could talk to Jiang Weidong alone. But what could it be? Lin Wangshu frowned and pondered.

"Uncle, please keep an eye on this for now. I'm going to the restroom and I'll come back for the documents in a bit."

Lin Wangshu couldn't wait any longer and stood up to speak to Lao Ding.

"Hey, wait a minute, I'm done now, you can take it back." Old Ding sighed helplessly. This kid wasn't easy to fool, so he could only quickly sign the document and hand it to her.

Lin Wangshu took it and quickly returned to the door of Jiang Defu's office. He pressed his ear against the door and listened quietly for a while, but heard nothing.

He could only raise his hand to knock on the door before immediately pushing it open and coming in. "Dad, I'm home."

After Lin Wangshu entered, she first looked at Jiang Weidong, who was standing there. When she noticed that he looked unwell, she showed a worried expression.

"Okay, bring it here." Jiang Defu shook his head with amusement when he saw that her eyes hadn't left Jiang Weidong since she entered the room.

It's said that women are outgoing, and that's certainly true. He can only be thankful that he married his own son, who isn't too much of an outsider.

"Alright, you can go home now." Jiang Defu took the documents, put them aside without even looking at them.

This made Lin Wangshu even more certain that Jiang Defu had deliberately tried to get her away.

Stepping out the door, seeing the distraught Jiang Weidong, Lin Wangshu asked worriedly, "What did Dad say to you?"

Jiang Weidong's mind was in a mess at the moment, and he didn't know what to say. He could only take her hand and force a smile, saying, "Let's go home. I'll talk to you when we get home."

Sensing that something was wrong with him, Lin Wangshu held his hand tightly and silently accompanied him the whole way.

When they got home, Jiang Weidong pulled Lin Wangshu along, and the two of them quietly climbed up to the rooftop. There were other people inside, but this place was quieter and more suitable for their conversation.

"Dad doesn't agree with us getting married now." After thinking for a long time, Jiang Weidong decided to tell her directly.

Lin Wangshu was taken aback. "Why? What are you thinking?"

“Dad thinks I’m not capable of taking care of you yet. I’m not qualified to be his official son-in-law.”

Jiang Weidong then told Lin Wangshu everything that Jiang Defu had told him in detail.

Lin Wangshu remained silent for a long time after hearing this. She was deeply moved. Jiang Defu valued her more than Jiang Weidong, his own son.

Every word he spoke was for Lin Wangshu's sake, and every syllable contained a father's love.

"Wangshu, three years at most, wait for me!" Jiang Weidong felt an unprecedented sense of urgency, looking directly into Lin Wangshu's eyes, his tone firm.

"Okay, I believe you!" Lin Wangshu looked directly at him. "Besides, I've said it before, you're the only one I'll ever love!"

"You're the only moon I have!" Jiang Weidong's eyes reddened, as if he was about to cry from emotion.

Lin Wangshu was charmed by his cuteness and couldn't help but cup his face, close her eyes, smile, and gently kiss him.

Jiang Weidong also reached out and put his arm around her waist. The kiss was gentle and lingering, making her feel intoxicated.

Under the moonlight, he was kissed by the moon.
