The old Chinese medicine doctor immediately stood up, and Lin Wangshu only felt a gust of wind blow by before he disappeared.
Is this still an old man? His movements are too nimble, Lin Wangshu thought to herself, and she also stood up and went out the door to see what was going on.
"Little Tree, is anyone home?" The old Chinese medicine doctor looked very wary. He opened the door and looked around. After finding nothing amiss, he asked the little boy seriously.
After licking the sugar crumbs off his hands, Xiaoshu said, "I just saw two people, but they ran away again."
Lin Wangshu looked at Shen Jiaojiao questioningly; she had been in the courtyard the whole time and hadn't gone inside.
Shen Jiaojiao shook her head, indicating that she hadn't seen it.
"You should leave now." The old Chinese medicine doctor was still worried. He felt that Lin Wangshu and the others must have brought this trouble. He opened the door and shooed them away with a look of rejection.
After Lin Wangshu and Shen Jiaojiao walked out of the gate hand in hand, they looked at the empty alley and felt uneasy. "Jiaojiao, are we being watched?"
"No way." Shen Jiaojiao's voice trembled as she gripped Lin Wangshu's arm tightly with both hands, her eyes darting around warily.
"Don't be afraid, stay with me, everything will be alright."
Lin Wangshu was bolder. She grasped Shen Jiaojiao's hand and quickened her pace, then faster and faster until she was running.
The two of them ran until they reached a busy main road before they dared to slow down.
"It should be alright now, let's go straight back to school." After turning her head and finding no one around, Lin Wangshu swallowed and moistened her dry throat before saying to Shen Jiaojiao.
She had originally planned to go to the pharmacy to get the medicine, but now she thought better of it.
"Okay, that's terrifying." Shen Jiaojiao was panting heavily when she heard this and immediately nodded. Her back was still cold.
On the other side, at the end of the alley where the old Chinese medicine doctor lived, Yang Yiyi squeezed out from a narrow passage, looking at Jiang Changyi who had pulled her in, feeling scared and flustered.
"Who...who are you? Are you trying to harass me?"
Yang Yiyi noticed that Lin Wangshu and Shen Jiaojiao often got together and whispered something at school, which aroused her curiosity. Today, when she saw the two of them about to leave the school, she quietly followed them.
After seeing them looking around and enter a courtyard, Yang Yiyi walked to the gate, intending to peek inside, but accidentally made a noise.
She turned around in a panic, trying to hide, but bumped into a man. She was startled, her eyes widened, and she instinctively wanted to scream.
Seeing that she was about to scream, the man reached out and covered Yang Yiyi's mouth, then dragged her into the aisle to hide.
Yang Yiyi was so frightened that she trembled all over and tears streamed down her face. She thought she had been assaulted and was completely devastated.
To her surprise, the man didn't seem to intend to do anything to her. He released her after Lin Wangshu and the others left, which is why she dared to question him.
Jiang Changyi preemptively struck, "I'm Lin Wangshu's older brother. I'd like to ask you the same thing: what are you doing following my sister around?"
Yang Yiyi felt a moment of guilt, but quickly recovered, "You're Lin Wangshu's older brother, why are you hiding like this?"
Having lived with Lin Wangshu for so long, Yang Yiyi had a fairly good understanding of her family situation.
Looking at Jiang Changyi's face, Yang Yiyi felt that he was lying. She had also met Jiang Weidong once, and the two did not look like brothers at all.
“We had a little argument when she was on vacation. I came to Beijing on business this time and wanted to talk to her to ease the tension.”
“I was worried that something might happen to Wang Shu, so I followed behind her. But I was afraid she would be angry with me if she found out, so I had to hide.”
Jiang Changyi's mind raced as he thought and recited his prepared explanation.
Yang Yiyi was skeptical after hearing this, but Jiang Changyi noticed and quickly asked, "You still haven't told me why you're following my sister?"
"I'm Wang Shu's roommate, I..." Yang Yiyi stammered for a long time, unable to give a reason.
Jiang Changyi could tell at a glance that she probably had ill intentions and that her relationship with Lin Wangshu was likely not very good, but this suited her just fine.
"Are you worried about Wang Shu too?" Jiang Changyi thoughtfully came up with an excuse for her.
"Yes, yes, yes." Yang Yiyi breathed a sigh of relief and nodded repeatedly.
"I just inquired around, and it seems this place is run by an old traditional Chinese medicine doctor. Comrade, you're staying with Wang Shu, is she sick?"
Jiang Changyi frowned, looking like a caring older brother who looked after his younger sister.
"An old Chinese medicine doctor?" Based on the snippets she overheard in the dormitory, Yang Yiyi pieced together what she thought was the correct answer, and then revealed a knowing yet somewhat sympathetic expression.
"Sigh, it seems your brother's health isn't very good."
Jiang Changyi's eyes darted around and he understood. He was so happy he almost laughed out loud, but quickly tried to make a sad expression.
"Family scandals should not be aired in public, so we'll have to trouble you, comrade, to keep this a secret for us."
No! We definitely need to promote this more, Jiang Changyi thought to himself, hoping this person would be a little smarter.
"Mmm." Yang Yiyi nodded perfunctorily, eager to leave.
After watching her figure disappear, Jiang Changyi slowly walked away as well.
Not far from the guesthouse where he was staying, Jiang Changyi planned to walk back and think about how to deal with Lin Wangshu.
Jiang Changyi was very satisfied with Jiang Weidong's fate. He had kicked him hard back then, and now this was his just desserts.
But Jiang Changyi's main hatred was for Lin Wangshu. This person always ruined his plans, and he wouldn't be happy unless he suffered a bit.
What is most important to a woman? Her reputation? Her innocence?
Jiang Changyi frowned in thought, but he felt that this wouldn't be a big blow to Lin Wangshu, since she didn't seem like the kind of woman who cared about these things.
Suddenly, as if he had just remembered something, he stopped abruptly. It was Jiang Weidong!
For Lin Wangshu, the most important person was Jiang Weidong.
Aren't they childhood sweethearts? Aren't they going to get married right after graduation? Jiang Changyi smiled coldly. Dream on. He was determined to make those two unhappy.
Although he hadn't figured out what to do yet, Jiang Changyi wasn't in a hurry. He would stay in the capital for a while and would eventually come up with a solution.
During the few days that Jiang Changyi accompanied his teacher to the meeting, although he didn't talk much, he was very quick-witted. He tried to strike up conversations with some people who looked like children of high-ranking officials, and eventually got to know a few of them.
That day, Jiang Changyi accompanied two people to eat in the cafeteria. He couldn't get a word in edgewise about their conversation and could only listen quietly from the side.
One of them, Wang Tao, suddenly spat out, "Sun Shengli is such a show-off. You didn't see it, but the other day at the skating rink, he was showing off his girlfriend from the Central Academy of Drama right in front of us. He looked like he deserved a beating."
He couldn't help but sigh again, "That girl was really beautiful, but it's like a beautiful flower stuck in cow dung."
"How about I have my cousin go with you sometime to support you?" Zheng Jianhua, who was standing next to him, grinned slyly.
Upon hearing this, Wang Tao felt as if he were facing a formidable enemy and waved his hands repeatedly, saying, "Forget it, I can't handle this little devil."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Changyi's heart stirred, and he said as if jokingly, "What about my sister? She's also from the Central Academy of Drama. Not only is she beautiful, but she's also in the acting department. She's more than capable of holding her own in a play."
