"You're lying to me."
Inside the station, Lin Wangshu stared at Jiang Weidong with her beautiful eyes, looking sullen.
Jiang Weidong knew what she meant, and chuckled as he pinched her cheek. "Really, no. The school isn't owned by our family. How can I just tell you where to go?"
He merely hinted at his thoughts indirectly when asked by his superiors.
Jiang Weidong didn't want Lin Wangshu to feel burdened, but who knew she would guess it so quickly? It seems that sometimes, having a wife who is too smart isn't a good thing.
Lin Wangshu didn't believe it. What a coincidence! He had just asked her the question, and the next day he was transferred to Qingdao.
It was obvious that Jiang Weidong had sensed her desire to stay with her parents. They had grown up together and understood each other as well as they understood themselves.
But since things had come to this point, Lin Wangshu was unwilling to dwell on it any longer. Since Jiang Weidong didn't want her to know, she would just pretend to be oblivious.
"I still have two years before I graduate, so you're not allowed to flirt with other women." Lin Wangshu looked at Jiang Weidong, who was dressed in military uniform and looked very imposing, and said this half-jokingly and half-seriously.
Jiang Weidong threw his head back and laughed, "I've already picked the prettiest flower, so why would I care about the wildflowers by the roadside?"
"Don't worry, I will definitely remain chaste and only think about my little moon every day."
Lin Wangshu nodded in satisfaction. Seeing that the train was about to depart, she reluctantly straightened his military uniform and watched him board the train.
Jiang Weidong first reported to the army and transferred his personnel file from the school. He was then given a few days' leave.
So Jiang Weidong decided to go back to Songshan Island for a visit. When he returned home, An Jie was overjoyed to learn that he had been transferred back to Qingdao. As a mother, she naturally hoped that her children would be as close to her as possible.
In the evening, Anjie and Dehua cooked a table of dishes, and Lao Ding brought over a bottle of wine as a welcome-back party for Jiang Weidong.
After a few rounds of drinks, Old Ding, his cheeks flushed, pointed at Jiang Weidong and asked with a puzzled look, "You rascal, what brings you to Qingdao?"
Jiang Weidong hadn't been drinking, but when he heard Lao Ding's sudden question, his hand holding the food paused for a moment. Just as he was thinking about how to respond, Jiang Defu spoke up.
"How could my son know? This must be a decision made by the organization after careful consideration. We should just obey orders. Don't ask so many questions."
Hearing Jiang Defu come to his rescue, Jiang Weidong quickly smiled and took the opportunity to back down, "Uncle, Qingdao is great. Aren't we all serving the people no matter where we are?"
Old Ding, who was quite drunk, immediately waved his hand in rebuttal after hearing this, "That's different, Weidong, you have to work hard to get promoted. Your father and I are already at our limit. You're the most promising one in our two families, so you have to set your goals higher!"
Jiang Weidong chuckled. He hadn't expected his uncle to have such ambitions. It was clear that Old Ding was drunk. So he said in a gentle tone, "Don't worry, I'll do my best!"
Jiang Defu, however, was unwilling to see Lao Ding being so "tiger parent," especially since it was his own son. "You're really talking without understanding the situation. Go home and find your son. You don't care about your own child."
Then he turned to Jiang Weidong and said, "Weidong, don't listen to your uncle's nonsense. You can't be like him and become a 'career-obsessed' official!"
Old Ding snorted twice. Jiang Defu was just talking without understanding the situation. If his son were as successful as Jiang Weidong, would he still be wasting his breath here?
So he continued to drown his sorrows in his cup, ignoring Jiang Defu and treating his words as nothing more than passing wind.
Jiang Weidong knew that the two of them had drunk too much, and he argued with them, but they all nodded in agreement.
After Lao Ding was helped away unsteadily by Dehua, Jiang Defu stood up. Although he was a little dizzy, his eyes looked clear.
"Wei Dong, come in with me."
In the study, Jiang Defu sat at his desk, expressionless, and pointed to the chair, saying to Jiang Weidong, "Sit."
Although Jiang Weidong is now in his twenties and can support a family, Jiang Defu has long held a grudge against him, so he can't help but feel uneasy at this moment.
"Dad, did you need something from me?"
"Let me ask you, did your school really intend to assign you to Qingdao?" Jiang Defu asked him bluntly.
Jiang Weidong's heart skipped a beat, but he remained calm and said, "Yes, what's wrong?"
Jiang Defu could no longer contain himself, his anger surging on his face. "You still dare to lie to me? I know everything! You clearly had a better place to go, but you gave it up for Wang Shu!"
As expected, Jiang Weidong felt relieved and calmed down, nodding in agreement, "Yes."
Jiang Defu's anger intensified upon seeing him like this. "You..." He couldn't control his voice, glanced at the door, and then lowered his voice again, "Did you discuss this with Wang Shu? Your self-sacrifice behind her back is arrogant! It's disrespectful to her!"
Seeing that Jiang Defu was so angry, yet still remembered to consider An Jie, Jiang Weidong chuckled softly, "Dad, this might be hereditary. Wasn't it the same way you married my mother?"
Jiang Defu was so angry he wanted to take off his shoe and hit him. "You brat, your mother knew back then, I didn't hide it from her, but what about you?"
Jiang Defu tried to speak to him as calmly as possible, "I'm afraid you'll regret it. If you're not happy in the future, you'll remember for the rest of your life that you gave up a great opportunity for Wang Shu."
“Over time, resentment will grow. When you argue, you'll use that to pressure her. How can you two continue living together then? How can Wang Shu not feel wronged?”
Jiang Weidong became serious, his eyes flashing with anger. "You're looking down on me. This was my own choice. I'm not so despicable as to blame it on Wang Shu."
