Lin Wangshu felt as if she had returned to that small island in an instant, back to that afternoon when everyone was dancing to music, when a boy had whispered something in her ear.
"Little Moon, I want to buy dresses for two rooms in the future, one for Mom and one for you."
With a soft pat, a tear fell onto her skirt, dampening it slightly, but she couldn't help but smile.
"Wang Shu, what's wrong with you?" He Xiao asked worriedly when she saw her crying and laughing at the same time.
"It's nothing, I'm just a little homesick," Lin Wangshu said with a smile, wiping away her tears.
He Xiao didn't know what to say to comfort her, so she could only pat her shoulder silently.
Lin Wangshu quickly composed herself, looked at the dress in her hand, and sighed, "Such a bright and colorful dress, when am I supposed to wear it?"
Although she said that, the joy in her eyes was impossible to hide.
He Xiao looked at her and teased with a smile, "Why not? You can wear it when you marry him!"
"Then I'll have to treasure it carefully, who knows how long I'll have to wait?"
As Lin Wangshu spoke, she carefully folded and put the skirt away, showing no shyness whatsoever, like a young girl being teased.
He Xiao suddenly felt bored and clicked her tongue, saying, "Are you in such a hurry? A young lady should still be reserved."
Lin Wangshu smiled and narrowed her eyes, looking like a cunning fox, beautiful yet dangerous. "I will be reserved enough to make him eager to marry me."
Jiang Weidong, who was soaking his feet, suddenly felt a chill run down his spine, which made him shiver.
Qin Feng, standing beside him, was pestering him, "Jiang Weidong, what's wrong with letting me take a look at that photo? I was the one who got that dress for you, and you're being so stingy?"
Jiang Weidong glanced at him sideways, shook his head, and refused, "That won't do either. Why should I let you see my girlfriend?"
The more he tried to hide it, the more Qin Feng felt anxious and restless. He was so curious. "Oh, I'll just take a look. I'll show it to you first when I find a girlfriend."
Jiang Weidong politely declined, saying, "No need, I'm not curious."
People nearby became curious and looked at Jiang Weidong, teasing him, "Did you find a celestial beauty? You've been hiding her so well, why don't you show her to everyone!"
Jiang Weidong wiped his feet, picked up the foot basin, stood up, and smiled smugly, saying only, "She's as beautiful as a fairy."
This piqued the curiosity of everyone in the dorm, who all urged him to show it to them.
Someone took the foot basin from his hands and said, "You rest, I'll pour it for you."
The others pressed him down into a chair, some massaging his shoulders, others rubbing his legs, but Jiang Weidong just squinted his eyes and enjoyed it, refusing to give in no matter what.
Seeing that everyone was about to "torture and extract a confession," Qin Feng seemed to have thought of something, crossed his arms and said to him in a calm and collected manner, "Your girlfriend is from the cultural troupe, right? I remember that the cultural troupe is coming to perform here in a while. If you don't tell us, we'll ask around and see which one is Jiang Weidong's 'celestial beauty'."
Qin Feng was quick-witted and deduced Lin Wangshu's identity from the slightest clues.
Jiang Weidong's expression finally changed. Reluctantly, he took out the photos, adding, "Only I can look at them!"
Qin Feng finally got his wish. Ignoring what he was saying, he snatched the photo from his hand. After seeing Lin Wangshu's smiling face in the photo, he fell silent, and after a long silence, only uttered, "Holy crap."
Seeing his reaction, the others curiously gathered around, and the photos in Qin Feng's hand were passed around among them.
"This looks just like the white fox I saw when I was a child!" a simple country boy exclaimed in astonishment.
Then, looking at Jiang Weidong seriously, she said, "Your partner isn't really a fox in disguise, is she?!"
Normally, if he said something so silly, everyone would have laughed and scolded him, but now they all looked at Jiang Weidong with suspicion in their eyes, waiting for him to confirm.
Jiang Weidong rolled his eyes at them and said irritably, "What nonsense are you talking about? She's a person, a living, breathing person!"
Qin Feng was a little jealous and looked at Jiang Weidong, saying sourly, "You're so lucky, you got such a beautiful girl!"
If I had known, he shouldn't have been so persistent. Now look what's happened; everyone's unhappy.
Jiang Weidong laughed heartily, took the photos back from them, put them away, and said with a ruddy complexion, "I'm really lucky, haha."
Seeing his smug look, Qin Feng was so angry he gritted his teeth. He waved to the crowd, who were already itching for a fight, and shouted, "Comrades, charge! Follow me and take him down!"
The others couldn't stand it any longer, and with a shout, they rushed towards Jiang Weidong, leaving only his screams echoing from inside the dormitory.
Soon the day arrived for the performance at the air force base. Song Jing was so nervous that she couldn't sleep well all night, and she got up very early the next morning.
Seeing Song Jing sitting in the car, still taking deep breaths, Lin Wangshu didn't want her to be too nervous and affect her performance, so she tried to think of ways to help her relax.
"Jingjing, what's your favorite food?"
Song Jing was taken aback by her question, but after thinking for a moment, she replied, "I love the peaches in Xiaoshan's yard the most. They're big and sweet, and every time they ripen, Xiaoshan picks them for me to eat."
As she spoke, a deep longing welled up in her eyes, and she became more talkative.
"Before you go on stage, imagine the audience as peaches in your mind, and sing to a row of peaches. You won't be nervous then, right?"
Song Jing imagined the scene and couldn't help but chuckle. She said to Lin Wangshu, "Wangshu, you really have a way with things! I feel much better now!"
