The sound of high heels clicking on the floor echoed down the hallway.
Bang bang bang, bang bang bang.
The knocking was deafening. He Tiantian flinched, thinking someone was knocking on their door. She looked out through the peephole.
It's the woman who came looking for trouble yesterday.
She was knocking on the door of room 403 again, but He Tiantian was definitely not going to help her this time.
403 opened the door, and without saying a word, the woman slapped him across the face.
The woman in room 403 froze. She started shouting for help, but this time no one came to her aid. The landlady ignored her cries.
He Tiantian plopped down on the sofa, and cries and pleas for help echoed down the hallway.
Shen Yizhou found it annoying, so he turned up the TV volume.
The little boy cried his heart out as he watched his mother being beaten, but no one came to help them that day.
The woman kept uttering vicious words.
"You still dare to go out with him? I think you're tired of living."
"Do you know why I was able to get out? He's sponging off my money! He's just a gigolo!"
The woman grabbed her hair, slapped her repeatedly, and kicked her stomach relentlessly.
Her lower body began to bleed. The woman froze, then let out an even louder curse.
"You fucking dare to get pregnant? Have you no shame?!"
He Tiantian listened with trepidation. She couldn't help but go to the peephole to watch the show. In the end, it was the police officer from apartment 402 who came out to stop it; he really didn't want to get involved.
He only learned yesterday that the woman's identity was indeed unusual, and his superiors had warned him not to get involved in the matter anymore.
But if they kept fighting like this, someone would die sooner or later, so he softened and called 120 (emergency services).
The ambulance arrived quickly, and neighbors from upstairs and downstairs came out to watch the show. Everyone was pointing at the woman in apartment 403, and they all started cursing her for being indecent, bringing my son along, and seducing men everywhere.
The police officer in 402 did not call the police, but instead advised the woman to go home quickly, as he did not want to get involved in these matters anymore.
The landlady came knocking on the door of 404 again.
It was Shen Yizhou who opened the door.
“Let me tell you! When 403 was lifted into the ambulance, his legs were covered in blood, tsk tsk tsk.”
The landlady was disgusted; she had definitely rented to the wrong person, making her building a mess.
"That poor little boy is really pitiful," He Tiantian said with some regret.
"You have no idea, before you came, three groups of these women had already come, and each time they beat her up badly."
"She doesn't have a husband, so why does she keep going after other people's husbands? It's disgusting."
"Who says otherwise? I heard her husband died young, and we don't even know how he died."
He Tiantian heard some juicy gossip today and chatted with her landlady for two whole hours. She only left after other tenants came to find her.
Shen Yizhou wasn't really listening; he figured these kinds of things could happen anywhere, so it wasn't surprising.
The building returned to calm. Shen Yizhou pulled He Tiantian to room 504, which was still unlocked.
It was clearer in the morning; the walls and floor were covered in blood, all of which had started to turn black. He Tiantian went into the bedroom, rummaged through a drawer, and found a small silver key stuck to the bottom of the drawer.
Such a small key must be for opening small boxes, right?
He Tiantian suddenly had a bright idea. She lay down under the bed and actually found a small box among a pile of odds and ends.
She reached in, pulled it out, dusted it off, and tried to open it with the key.
As expected, she opened the small box, which contained some photos and a blue hair clip.
He Tiantian glanced at the photo. It showed two little girls. She looked closely and realized that it was Li Rou. It looked like she was in high school.
The blue hair clip was well preserved; it was covered with a protective film and not a speck of dust had settled on it.
He Tiantian took out her phone and took a picture; it should be Li Rou and the girl who wrote the letter.
Shen Yizhou leaned out of the window. Li Rou's house didn't even have security bars? The window was also wide open, it looked like it was intentional.
He searched the entire living room but still couldn't find any useful clues. Just as he was getting worried, he suddenly saw medicine bottles scattered on the table.
He picked up the medicine bottle, took a picture with his phone, and went back to search online to find out what it was for.
He Tiantian put the box and key back in their original places. She opened the wardrobe to check, and there were only a few scattered clothes inside. That shouldn't be the case. How could a woman only have a few clothes?
She pulled up a chair, opened the upper wardrobe, and found only a few quilts inside. Li Rou had far too few clothes…
This also reflects that her husband is not good to her. The landlady said that Li Rou has no job and no children.
Her husband only gives her 2,000 yuan a month and expects her to cook for her every day.
I heard all of this from the landlady.
He Tiantian walked out of the bedroom and found Shen Yizhou staring at the clock on the wall.
She glanced at it too; the clock was broken, stopped at exactly 12:00 midnight.
He Tiantian went to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator door, and found a foul smell coming from inside. All the vegetables inside were rotten, and there was very little food.
She suddenly felt sorry for Li Rou.
After closing the refrigerator door, she went into the bathroom, which was also a mess, covered in yellow grime, with two cockroaches crawling on her toothbrush.
He Tiantian gagged and immediately left the restroom.
The landlady will probably be furious when she sees this; she'll definitely have to pay someone to clean it.
"Zhouzhou, let's go. We didn't find anything useful."
Shen Yizhou didn't move; she made a shushing gesture at He Tiantian.
