Chapter 19 Heartbreaking! Little Black Can Talk

Chapter 19 Heartbreaking! Little Black Can Talk

Cheng Zhiyu gripped the crossbow tightly, and then he heard the sound of the wind in his ear subside.

Xiao Hei's voice came through: "Hit!"

Cheng Zhiyu reached out and removed the blindfold, looking down at the zombies. He saw that the zombies were no longer charging at them in an orderly fashion as before. Without the wind-type zombies, they instantly became scattered.

Xiao Er is happily burning zombies with a fireball each.

Cheng Zhiyu and Xiao Hei jumped off the roof at the same time and headed towards the horde of zombies. In no time, they saw that a large group of zombies had been completely wiped out.

Cheng Zhiyu found the wind-type zombie, chopped open its head, took out the crystal, and cleaned it. Although none of them were wind-type and couldn't use it for the time being, the crystal was obviously a good thing, and they might be able to trade it with someone for crystals they could use later.

After finishing their work and clearing away the zombies in front of the clinic, Cheng Zhiyu took Xiao Hei to a place where they could stay. The clinic door had been blown off, so it was obviously no longer habitable.

Once they reached a safe place, Cheng Zhiyu picked up Xiao Hei in his arms.

Xiao Hei: W-what are you doing?

Cheng Zhiyu: "Xiao Hei, thanks to you today, otherwise that wind-type zombie would have been really difficult to deal with for a while."

Xiao Hei wagged its tail awkwardly. These humans really do love to say mushy things all the time. It turned its head away, refusing to look at Cheng Zhiyu.

Cheng Zhiyu reached out and poked him: "Xiao Hei, why aren't you saying anything? Talk to me."

He was surprised that he accepted Xiao Hei's ability to talk so quickly, but then he thought it was nothing. Xiao Hei was a dog spirit, so what if it could talk? Even if its magic wasn't enough to turn it into a human, it didn't mean it couldn't speak.

Moreover, putting aside the shocking aspect of this matter, isn't it actually a good thing?

Cheng Zhiyu hasn't encountered a single living person so far. He knows he can't possibly be the only survivor; he just hasn't met anyone yet. But humans are social animals, so how can they not be lonely?

He used to be a man of few words, but now he's become a chatterbox, seizing every opportunity to speak.

Although he had Xiao Er, Xiao Tie, and Xiao Hei by his side, he was the only one talking. Although they responded with actions, they couldn't communicate with him verbally.

And now, Xiao Hei can talk!

He was busy dealing with the wind-type zombies and didn't have time to be happy. Now that he finally had some free time, Xiao Hei didn't say a word.

"Little Black? Little Black, Little Black, Little Black?" Cheng Zhiyu kept calling out.

Unable to bear it any longer, Xiao Hei frowned and said impatiently, "What?"

Cheng Zhiyu smiled broadly, picked up the little black dog whose head was turned away, and gave it a quick kiss on its fur: "It's nothing, I just like talking to you."

Xiao Hei: !!! Why is Cheng Zhiyu doing this again! What's wrong with him, always talking like that?

Xiao Hei decided to have a serious talk with him: "Don't ever do that again..."

Cheng Zhiyu looked at Xiao Hei, puzzled, and asked, "Don't want what?"

Xiao Hei: "...It's nothing."

Forget it, it's not a big deal. There's no need to emphasize it again. At worst, he can just dodge when Cheng Zhiyu kisses him in the future.

“Speaking of which… Xiao Hei, you haven’t grown at all in so long?” Cheng Zhiyu had been worried about this for a long time, but there was nothing he could do, so he could only keep it to himself. Now that he could talk to Xiao Hei, he quickly asked what was going on.

Little Blackie wagged its tail guiltily, because it wasn't a dog at all.

Before Xiao Hei could find an excuse, Cheng Zhiyu said, "Could it be because Xiao Hei is a dog spirit, and dog spirits grow slower?"

Xiao Hei coughed lightly: "Hmm, more or less."

Cheng Zhiyu smiled and said, "That's good. I thought it wouldn't last long."

Xiao Hei's ears twitched, and upon hearing this, he gave Cheng Zhiyu a displeased look.

Cheng Zhiyu pinched his ear: "What's wrong? Xiao Hei is cute like this, but I still hope Xiao Hei can grow up. I want to see Xiao Hei look different."

Xiao Hei's mood improved considerably: What do you mean by cute? Who would praise the Winged Clan as cute? But... he was barely satisfied with what Cheng Zhiyu said.

Cheng Zhiyu yawned. He had just been forced to wake up halfway through his sleep and was really sleepy now. He tucked Xiao Hei into his arms and said, "Let's go to sleep."

Xiao Hei was also a little tired, so it didn't say anything and was comfortably held by Cheng Zhiyu, finding a comfortable position to lie down in his arms.

Even he himself didn't realize how fluid and graceful his movements were.

Cheng Zhiyu closed his eyes, but he still didn't fall into a deep sleep, remaining vigilant for the possibility of a zombie attack.

Cheng Zhiyu slept soundly until dawn. After breakfast, he and Xiao Hei discussed it and decided not to travel during the day.

It's so hot during the day now, Cheng Zhiyu even suspects it's 50 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, he practiced the mental cultivation technique given to him by Xiao Hei, which greatly improved his physical fitness, so this temperature isn't unbearable.

However, although it was bearable, it didn't mean it wasn't unbearably hot. It was just dawn, and Cheng Zhiyu had walked around outside and felt like the soles of his shoes were about to melt.

Compared to the daytime, the nighttime is actually more suitable for traveling. Although it is very cold at night, they have red and white cabbage, and after eating it, the nighttime temperature is actually quite comfortable for them.

Although there was no rush, there was still something to do. Traveling on foot was too slow, so Cheng Zhiyu decided to use this time to find a means of transportation.

Although the current road conditions are not suitable for cars, other vehicles are fine. Cheng Zhiyu plans to find a motorcycle.

“I’ve been here before the apocalypse. I remember there was a motorcycle market up ahead. Let’s go take a look over there,” Cheng Zhiyu called to Xiao Hei.

Little Black stretched, jumped onto his shoulder, patted him with its paws, and signaled to set off.

"Wait, let me get an umbrella." The sun outside is so strong, it's like my skin is going to crack. Even though it's still hot with an umbrella, at least it won't be as hot.

Moreover, Xiao Hei is entirely black, and black absorbs a lot of heat, so it must be even more uncomfortable for him.

Just as Xiao Hei was about to say "This is such a hassle," Cheng Zhiyu, holding an umbrella, said, "Does Xiao Hei feel better this way?"

Xiao Hei awkwardly stomped on Cheng Zhiyu with its paws.

Cheng Zhiyu didn't insist on getting an answer. After he finished speaking, he started walking towards the place he remembered.

Even with an umbrella, the sun's heat couldn't be blocked. Cheng Zhiyu frowned and quickened his pace.

Just then, a fine mist appeared around him from beneath the umbrella. The mist touched his skin, bringing a slight coolness and instantly dispelling some of the summer heat.

Cheng Zhiyu was slightly surprised: "Xiao Hei, did you do this?"

Xiao Hei gave a cool "hmm".

Cheng Zhiyu reached out and touched him, laughing, "I never thought water-based superpowers could be used like this."

Little Black wags its tail: There are many things you wouldn't expect.

"Little Black is so thoughtful, he's worried I'm too hot, isn't he?" Cheng Zhiyu had the narcissism of every pet owner.

Xiao Hei: I just want to improve my control over water-based abilities. I'm almost at the critical point of improvement. After that, I can awaken my next ability.

With Xiao Hei's water mist, traveling became much more comfortable. Soon they arrived at the place Cheng Zhiyu had mentioned, where wandering zombies gathered. There weren't many of them, and they were dealt with in no time.

In front of him were rows of brand-new motorcycles. Even though Cheng Zhiyu didn't have much of a feeling for motorcycles, he still thought they were pretty cool.

These motorcycles, which cost tens of thousands of yuan before the apocalypse, would have been hard for Cheng Zhiyu to afford, but now he can choose any one he wants.

But if he had to choose, he would rather the apocalypse had never come.

Shaking his head, Cheng Zhiyu knew there was no point in thinking about it further. He started picking through the rows of cars, but he didn't forget to ask Xiao Hei for his opinion: "Xiao Hei, which one do you think is okay?"

Little Black lazily swished its tail, seemingly uninterested.

Cheng Zhiyu didn't ask him anymore, and finally chose a slightly smaller one that was lighter and didn't use as much fuel.

The new car was naturally out of oil, so he looked around the shop and found some engine oil to add. There wasn't much oil, so he figured it wouldn't last long.

However, there's a gas station nearby where you can get some fuel.

The motorcycle shop was probably not inhabited; the roof was made of sheet metal, so you could imagine how hot it must be inside. Cheng Zhiyu didn't stay any longer. He let Xiao Hei jump onto his shoulders, rode it around for a bit, and found it quite nice.

They didn't go to the temporary accommodation they found last night. The situation was urgent last night, so they just found a place that had a door and windows and was safe.

Cheng Zhiyu was now looking for a cool place. He remembered there was a shopping mall nearby, so he decided to go there.

Xiao Hei had no objection to this. Cheng Zhiyu rode his bike much faster and arrived at the mall in no time.

It was indeed much cooler inside the mall, and the lights were still on. Cheng Zhiyu guessed that it was probably because there was a backup power supply that had been put back on after the power outage.

Since there's a backup power source, then... there should be meat.

Cheng Zhiyu shared his guess, and Xiao Hei remained silent, but he could clearly feel Xiao Hei sit up straight.

Cheng Zhiyu suppressed a laugh. There must be zombies in the mall. The zombies smelled the scent of fresh flesh and blood and rushed over immediately. Before Cheng Zhiyu could make a move, the zombie had already been crushed to pieces. Xiao Hei even cleaned the ground.

Xiao Hei looked at Cheng Zhiyu: Where is the meat?

Although they have fish to eat, as Cheng Zhiyu said, they would get tired of eating fish every day. But if Xiao Hei were to eat vegetarian food every day, Xiao Hei would say: How can the Winged Clan eat vegetarian food every day?

But in the past, when supplies were scarce, Xiao Hei didn't say anything. Now that he heard there was meat here, he was determined to have a big meal.

Cheng Zhiyu's shoulders shrugged, and when he met Xiao Hei's questioning gaze, he quickly said, "Ahem, it's nothing."

They quickly found the meat section. The meat in the refrigerated display case was no longer edible, but there was still a lot of meat in the freezer.

Although frozen meat doesn't taste as good as fresh meat, at this point, who would be so picky?

Unfortunately, Cheng Zhiyu's storage space is only 1 cubic meter, which is too small. Even if some of it is freed up now, he can't take much with him.

Cheng Zhiyu: My heart aches!
