Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Gu Jinlan experienced for the first time what it felt like to have her chest burned by hot coals.

But he was always dignified; he tossed the ring into the trash can with a clatter and strode away.

Gu Jinlan wasn't one to pester anyone. He had the cleaning lady tidy up Ye Zhen's things, intending to throw them away, but somehow ended up sealing them all away in the room.

He initially intended to withdraw all his investment, but then sneered, thinking, "Why bother arguing with a child?"

Gu Jinlan was very busy with work and was soon engrossed in many things. However, when she had neck and shoulder pain, she opened the drawer and saw the small massage device that Ye Zhen had bought.

——————————————

Ye Zhen was unaware of this unfolding outside.

The wine glass reflected the lamplight, casting a few shattered starlight-like patterns on his cheek.

“If it weren’t for my mother’s medical expenses, why would I have bothered to beg him?”

He lowered his eyes, his thick, long eyelashes slightly damp.

"I can see the disdain in his eyes."

"Stop talking nonsense."

My friend frowned. "If you really like Xie Chengming, why don't you take the initiative and pursue him? What are you hesitating about?"

"Everyone in our class knows that Ye Zhen is a heartless beauty; she seems the most gentle and considerate, but in reality, she gets bored as soon as she gets her hands on her."

Ye Zhen remained silent: "He's the only one who can't be."

Ye Zhen did indeed have feelings for his childhood sweetheart, but he knew that the other person was straight, the really straight kind.

They've known each other since childhood, childhood sweethearts, sunny and cheerful, always the most dazzling one in the crowd.

Ye Zhen comes from a single-parent family. His mother struggled to raise him and often had emotional breakdowns. His childhood sweetheart shared picture books and candy with him, like a fish swimming in the water, stirring up his stagnant life.

But his childhood sweetheart had been dating only girlfriends since college, so Ye Zhen could only swallow all his feelings and silently treat him as a friend.

After his childhood sweetheart went abroad, Ye Zhen remained alone.

If Gu Jinlan hadn't spoken up, he wouldn't have been with anyone.

Ye Zhen was new to this industry, and when he heard Gu Jinlan say that she wanted to take care of him, his head was buzzing.

He couldn't believe that someone with a face similar to Xie Chengming would say such cold words.

Of course, I refused.

But to his surprise, the other party later secretly paid attention to him and was even a reader of his novel about his father's geological work experience.

He began to pay attention to the other person's movements, and if they didn't come to the performance, he worried that it might be because he hadn't performed well.

When the next performance came, he had a smile on his face while waiting backstage.

For a month, he hoped this person would contact him, but there was no response.

At that very moment, his mother was diagnosed with lung cancer, and the large sum of money needed for the surgery left him strapped for cash.

His income is not much different from that of ordinary office workers, so he has no choice but to bow his head.

Ye Zhen has been trying very hard to play the role of a caged bird, and Gu Jinlan treats him rather poorly.

But his childhood sweetheart had returned to China, and he had long harbored thoughts of separating from Gu Jinlan.

But every time I see the other person's face, for some reason, I just can't bring myself to say anything.

He was truly devastated when his mother passed away that day. In his panic, he couldn't find anyone to rely on, so he instinctively dialed Gu Jinlan's number, only to be met with cold words and the call was cut off countless times.

He got too caught up in the role and took his acting too seriously.

They're all stand-ins, so who's more carefree?

Ye Zhen left immediately.

A contractual relationship where each party gets what they need, resulting in a clean and straightforward settlement, is exactly what he wanted.

I thought the two of them would be like parallel lines, never to intersect again.

Unexpectedly, at the welcome dinner for Xie Chengming's return home, he ran into Gu Jinlan again.

The other person was dressed in a dark blue three-piece suit, which accentuated his elegant violin-waist figure. His composed demeanor immediately overshadowed all the young men present.

He approached gracefully, accompanied by his gentle, smiling lover.

When her childhood sweetheart saw him, she greeted him with a beaming smile: "Uncle!"

Ye Zhen has 600 degrees of myopia. That day, she didn't put her contact lenses in properly, and they were rubbing painfully, so she took them out.

Everyone appears as a blurry, indistinct blur.

He wanted to get closer to his childhood sweetheart relative, and when the relative came forward to call someone, he hurriedly followed, even though he couldn't see clearly.

With a smile that photographers call captivating, he embraced his childhood sweetheart and greeted her crisply, "Hello, Uncle."

By the time Ye Zhen squinted and saw the other person clearly, Gu Jinlan's face was already dark and gloomy, his eyes were filled with gloom, and his aura was like a cliff of ice.

Even Bai Yueguang sensed something was wrong: "Jinlan, what's wrong?"

Ye Zhen's heart was pounding, and she thought to herself that he didn't mean it.

Gu Jinlan slightly curled his lips, the light in his eyes like a loaded bullet, making it impossible to look directly at him.

"Just call me brother."

Gu Jinlan's gaze swept over Ye Zhen's lips, her eyes turning cold.

"I'm not that old yet."

Ye Zhen's smile froze on her face. Her brother had said those lewd words in bed, and she wondered if Gu Jinlan had any hidden meaning behind them.

However, Gu Jinlan left with Bai Yueguang without saying anything.

But the mealtime was even more painful, because they were relatives, and the childhood sweetheart and Gu Jinlan sat at the same table.

Ye Zhen deeply felt what it meant to feel like he was sitting on pins and needles, like he had a fishbone stuck in his throat, and like he had a thorn in his back.

Unfortunately, his childhood sweetheart turned out to be a clueless, straight man who doted on him rotten.

First, Ye Zhen, in a moment of distraction, smashed a cup and cut his hand. His childhood sweetheart immediately grabbed his hand and touched it.

Then they busied themselves disinfecting the bandages.

Gu Jinlan glanced coldly at them several times, her pupils turning a scarlet red as if sparks had been splashed into them.

"You never eat fish." The childhood sweetheart removed the bones and put the fish into Ye Zhen's bowl. "This is delicious, you should try it."

A moment later, she peeled shrimp for him: "You should eat more shrimp too, for a balanced diet."

Ye Zhen kept his head down, feeling that Gu Jinlan's gaze lingered on him, like sparks that were about to burn him.

"This guy is crazy," Ye Zhen frowned. "Isn't my white moonlight right here? Focus your loving gaze on him and ask him to leave me alone."

He is allergic to scallops.

Gu Jinlan suddenly spoke, her face expressionless.

The white moonlight stood frozen in place, while her childhood sweetheart was also filled with astonishment.

Ye Zhen couldn't stand it any longer and said she needed to go to the restroom.

She had just turned on the tap and washed her burning face a few times when Gu Jinlan pressed her against the wall and kissed her fiercely.

He said, "If you deliberately made me suffer, then you win."
