Chapter 5

Chapter 5

The assistant was still frantically talking on the phone when Song Yulin had already left.

He was still saying something to Song Yulin when she had already put on her headphones and gotten into a taxi.

Trees flashed past the car window, and the sky resembled a golden cicada's shed skin, leaving only a beautiful empty shell.

Song Yulin thought that perhaps despair in love was nothing to worry about.

What is painful is being seen as a despicable and ugly soul in the eyes of your loved ones.

So I became a pieced-together porcelain vase, and even if the fragments were perfectly joined, only I knew the cracks.

As soon as Song Yulin arrived home, Lu An's car was already in front of the door. He squinted slightly, his features appearing exceptionally handsome in the sunlight.

He grabbed Song Yulin and asked her to help him look at wedding venues, as if it weren't his friend getting married, but his own happy occasion.

Song Yulin was actually troubled and didn't really want to go.

Lu An said, "I can tell you have something on your mind. When people are alone, they tend to get stuck in their own thoughts. Why not try to distract yourself? You'll naturally let it go after a while."

That's true.

Song Yulin then went to see it with him.

After all that fuss and seeing so many different kinds, Song Yulin could barely tell the difference between real and fake flowers.

"Are you tired?" Lu An handed over a latte. "You must be thinking that my friend should leave this kind of thing to his assistant or secretary."

Song Yulin felt her back was a little sore from walking, took a sip, and couldn't help but nod.

“But for my own wedding,” Lu An said, lowering his eyes, “of course I should do it myself, after all, it only happens once in a lifetime.”

The aroma of coffee, infused with sunlight, exudes a golden fragrance.

Song Yulin held it, feeling warmth on her fingertips.

He said, "Your future partner will definitely be very happy."

Lu An chuckled softly and suddenly moved closer, causing Song Yulin to involuntarily step back.

The man stopped abruptly and simply wiped Song Yulin's mouth with a tissue.

Song Yulin didn't intend to dodge, but his actions preceded his thoughts and were faster than his reaction.

Lu An paused for a moment, but he just smiled, his emotions like ripples on a lake, fleeting and gone in an instant.

"Everyone has a past."

Lu An lowered his eyes, his eyelashes like a dense forest obscuring the stars, and stirred the coffee in his hand.

"But once you get through it, you'll find that relationships should only be a spice in life. They should bring joy, not leave you scarred."

He looked at Song Yulin: "I understand how you feel, and I hope time will heal all the obstacles between us. Of course, if we're not meant to be, being friends is fine too."

"Reason is truly admirable."

Song Yulin covered the coffee cup,

"If everyone could be like you, that would be great."

"Really?"

Lu An gave a wry smile.

"I seem to be different from everyone else from birth, unable to understand what it feels like to be out of control."

"I've been dumped a few times too."

Lu An rubbed his temples, feeling a slight headache.

"They say I'm too gentle, too gentlemanly, as if I'm always detached. I don't understand, does it have to be noisy and argumentative to be considered genuine?"

Lu An gave a wry smile.

"I seem to be different from other people by nature, and I can't understand what it feels like to lose control."

The sunlight fell like gold leaf onto the coffee. Song Yulin stirred it with a small spoon, creating a brown swirl. Suddenly, he smelled a special aroma.

As described in "Love in the Time of Cholera," it has a lingering bitter almond scent.

"Did your ex-boyfriend say he fell in love with someone else?" Song Yulin said with a faint smile, "and wanted to break up, but when you actually let him go, he cried his heart out and said you were heartless?"

Lu An paused for a moment, then said helplessly, "How did you know? Since he likes her, letting go is the best way for him to be happy. I was the one who got dumped, but in the end, it seems like I'm the bad guy too."

He seemed genuinely distressed: "I don't understand, does love have to be about heart-wrenching arguments and shouting? Isn't it better to be gentle and considerate when together, and to part amicably when apart?"

Like a butterfly fluttering in the sunlight, it leaps away from the transparent windowpane.

Song Yulin lowered her eyes and said softly, "That's really good."

Lu An wanted to take Song Yulin home, but she said she had other things to do.

Suddenly, an electric scooter darted across the sidewalk, heading straight for Song Yulin.

The man suddenly pulled him into his arms: "Be careful."

The champagne-scented pheromones were different from the mellow ones of vermouth, but Song Yulin still couldn't help but stiffen all over.

Lu An didn't say anything, but let go of him and said, "Remember to call me when you get home."

Song Yulin nodded.

The two parted ways. Song Yulin walked through the alley, only to be suddenly trapped against the wall by the tall man.

With her hands pulled up and held above her head, Song Yulin felt her heart pounding wildly in this defenseless position.

Upon seeing the other person's face clearly, he was filled with rage: "He Yang, are you crazy?"

He Yang's face was unusually pale, but his pupils looked as if they had been pierced by silver snakes, and were tinged with a quenched scarlet.

"How long have you known him?"

He Yang pinched Song Yulin's chin,

"Is he really that good? So good that I'm in such a hurry to marry him?"

His voice was hoarse, but he suddenly laughed: "Song Yulin, even if I'm about to die, can you still be happy to be with him?"

Song Yulin was taken aback, but suddenly realized that He Yang had been following him and Lu An for quite some time.

He mistakenly believed that the couple chose the wedding venue for him.

"Hmm!"

He Yang kissed her, like a withered vine dying in the desert finally finding water, and thus they lingered on and on.

That's enough.

Song Yulin shoved He Yang away abruptly, and the other man hissed, a drop of crimson blood appearing on the corner of his lips.

"He's just a good guy."

Song Yulin's chest heaved, the tranquility of the past few days shattering in an instant.

"He is gentle and considerate."

Song Yulin smiled, but the face reflected in He Yang's eyes was like a moon's reflection that could shatter at the slightest touch.

"Most importantly, he won't doubt my character and kick me out of the house without even asking what happened!"

"I won't let a few words from others condemn me to hell!"

The sunlight was like a branding iron, burning a string of crimson blisters into He Yang's eyes.

Song Yulin blinked and finally felt her face become incredibly wet.

He Yang reached out his hand to him, seemingly wanting to wipe away his tears, but Song Yulin slapped it away.

"Have you ever thought about what would happen if I weren't a real child of the Mo family?"

Despite her best efforts to suppress it, Song Yulin still managed to let out a few sobs.

"He was disgraced, penniless, despised by all his peers, and ultimately met with utter ruin."

"Why should I, He Yang?"

His shoulders trembled, and tears streamed down his face.

"You're so kind to everyone else, why are you so cruel to me?"

"Am I your lover, or your enemy?"

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry"

He Yang's face turned deathly pale. He was at a loss and could only hold Song Yulin tightly.

"Yulin, what should I do to make it up to you?"

"I don't need your compensation," Song Yulin said coldly.

"The greatest compensation you can give me is if you don't come looking for me again."
