Repairing the soul
Yu Zhu felt uneasy.
These past few days, Lingguang has been having Jingxu take medicinal baths every day, and according to Jingxu, he has indeed felt his physique improve.
The Jade Bamboo also gives a similar visual impression; Jingxu's physique is more robust, and he looks less youthful.
Lingguang also gave Yuzhu a bowl of medicine every day, but she didn't drink it. Instead, she poured it into another bottle and put it into her spiritual energy bag.
The pharmacy also had a fire burning every day.
Lingguang was in the main hall. He first called Jingxu in alone, pointed to a bowl of medicine and said something to Jingxu, and Yuzhuxin was lifted up high.
At this moment, those outside the hall could only see Lingguang's lips moving, but could not hear what he was saying.
Yu Zhu observed his lip shape and vaguely read the sound of "si". Then Ling Guang took out a brocade box.
Jingxu hesitated for a moment, then tilted his head back and drank the medicine. Lingguang handed him the brocade box, which Jingxu opened, examined, and put away before striding away.
Lingguang called Shao Zaihuan into the hall. Shao Zaihuan, who had been wearing a stern face for days, curled the corners of his lips and brushed past Jingxu.
"What did you drink? Are you alright?"
Jing Xu shook his head: "He said it's the final step in body tempering, and you can get the Soul-Tethering Silk after drinking it."
"You got it?" Yu Zhu asked in a low, slightly excited voice.
"Hmm." Jingxu handed the box to Yuzhu.
She opened the jade bamboo box and found a plain white silk thread coiled into several loops inside. As she reached out to examine it, she suddenly felt someone send several urgent messages in quick succession.
She immediately took out her communication jade tablet and sent several messages with the same message: "Senior Sister Yu, traces of demonic cultivators have been discovered outside Manyie Valley."
"Someone has reached Butterfly Valley, we have to go."
Yu Zhu slammed the box shut and grabbed Jing Xu's hand.
Clang!
The sound of a ceramic bowl shattering came from inside the hall.
"You old scoundrel, how dare you play me for a fool!"
As Shao Zaihuan roared, the ground beneath Yu Zhu and the other two suddenly trembled violently, as if it were about to crack open. Apart from the main hall, several other houses collapsed with a crash, and the sky darkened instantly.
Yu Zhu and Jing Xu supported each other to steady themselves.
Yu Zhu turned her head to look at the main hall, but Ling Guang was nowhere to be seen. Shao Zaihuan held a fan horizontally, and specks of fluorescent light drifted in the air.
"This is?"
Jingxu's surprised voice drew Yuzhu's attention back to the front, and she quickly pulled Jingxu back to the front of the hall.
A suffocating stench emanated from the ground, and a pitch-black monster emerged halfway out, making the entire thatched hut look as if it had been struck by an earthquake. Its surface was pitted and uneven, and upon closer inspection, the bumps and dents resembled human limbs, hands, feet, head, and face.
Yu Zhu felt like vomiting.
"The vengeful corpse monster is disgusting."
Shao Zaihuan's folding fan was coated with a layer of magic and flew out, the edge of the fan slicing along the side of the monster, leaving behind a pile of mangled limbs and a dark red gash.
Yu Zhu grabbed Jing Xu, trying to leave from the other side of the monster, but unexpectedly a similarly rugged tail shot through the air and attacked the two of them.
The two immediately flipped backward and retreated back to the front of the hall.
The wounds inflicted by Shao Zaihuan healed and new limbs grew back.
"Tsk, they're really tough to deal with." Shao Zaihuan's face was gloomy.
"What is this? What's going on?" Yu Zhu frowned as she looked at Shao Zaihuan.
"It's obvious that the scoundrel harmed many people. The pile of corpses and the lingering resentment have fused into a vengeful corpse monster. I just killed his lingering spirit incarnation, and the vengeful corpse monster couldn't be suppressed, so it crawled out of the ground."
As soon as he finished speaking, Shao Zaihuan flew into the air.
Seeing that the vengeful corpse's eyes were about to break through the ground, Yu Zhu and Jing Xu also leaped into the air.
As soon as they entered the air, a roar forced the two of them to fall to the ground, and Shao Zaihuan was also knocked back by its tail.
The vengeful corpse monster fully emerged, its body resembling a tiger, with four legs and a long tail, standing a full 10 feet tall and 20 feet long.
The vengeful corpse lunged at the three of them, who raised their weapons to defend themselves, and for a time they were locked in a fierce and evenly matched battle.
Yu Zhu discovered that the vengeful corpse monster's main target was Jing Xu, and its pupil-less eyes followed Jing Xu closely. At the same time, the communication jade tablet was also alerted, but Yu Zhu had no time to check.
She guessed, in the worst-case scenario, that the Yingtian Sect disciples guarding Manyie Valley had already engaged in battle with the people they had summoned.
While Shao Zaihuan was fighting the vengeful corpse's tail, he noticed that the vengeful corpse's firepower was focused on Jing Xu's side. Seizing the opportunity, he leaped into the air again.
Before he could even raise the tip of his mouth, several crystalline ice chains wrapped around his waist, dragging him backward violently.
"Trying to run? No way."
Several ice chains were suddenly gathered in Yu Zhu's hand. Shao Zaihuan braced himself on the ground and immediately realized that the ground had frozen over at some point.
"You do it—"
Shao Zaihuan suddenly leaped into the air, and Yuzhu manipulated the ice chains to fling him horizontally toward the face of the vengeful corpse monster.
Sizzle—
Before Shao Zaihuan could react, he swung his fan and slashed the right eye of the vengeful corpse, causing blood to splatter.
The vengeful corpse roared with its head raised, its other eye fixed on Shao Zaihuan, before lunging at him.
Yu Zhu grabbed Jing Xu's collar, ignored Shao Zai Huan's curses, entered the only remaining main hall, and closed the door.
"Sit down on the couch. I will now remove the soul seal. The people outside have already found Butterfly Valley."
Jingxu was shocked, "But you..."
Yu Zhu flicked out a wisp of spiritual energy, which entered Jing Xu's brow, causing him to immediately lose consciousness. Yu Zhu then placed him on the couch and sat opposite him.
Yu Zhu took out the Soul-Binding Silk, formed a hand seal, and the Soul-Binding Silk floated up, entering from Yu Zhu's brow, traveling through his meridians, and connecting the seal formed by his soul to the silk thread.
The Soul-Binding Thread emerged from between Yu Zhu's eyebrows, with a small cluster of white flames hanging at its end.
Yu Zhu controlled the Soul-Binding Silk to slowly enter Jing Xu's brow. The white flame disappeared, and a pale blue halo emanated from Jing Xu's body, indicating the flow of spiritual energy. It all depended on whether their souls could successfully merge.
boom--
In the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Shao Zaihuan had been knocked away by the vengeful corpse monster countless times.
He was cursing and swearing, cursing Lingguang, cursing the vengeful corpse monster, but mostly cursing Yuzhu.
"You think I can beat it while you're hiding inside? I can't beat it now, so you'll all die here!"
As demonic energy surged within her body, Yu Zhu turned her head and spat out a mouthful of blood.
Hearing Shao Zaihuan's impassioned voice, she took out her communication jade tablet.
Sure enough, the disciples of Yingtian Sect were already engaged in combat. Yu Zhu replied that personal safety was paramount, and those whose souls were intact should not enter the ruins.
Bang!
This time, Shao Zaihuan was slammed against the door, and the whole house trembled.
Yu Zhu frowned, pushed open the door, and was immediately hit by a stench.
Shao Zaihuan stretched out his arms and legs, supporting the upper jaw of the vengeful corpse, his face contorted, "Quick...save...me..."
Yu Zhu leaped into the air, gripping her sword and plunging it into the left eye of the vengeful corpse monster.
The vengeful corpse opened its mouth and howled in pain, then retreated.
Yu Zhu pressed the sword deeper, and the vengeful corpse fell to the ground to the left. Yu Zhu pulled out the sword, leaped away from the monster, and the tip of the sword brought out a string of dark blood beads.
The vengeful corpse lunged at her, and thick ice chains rose from the ground to bind it. Yu Zhu leaped up, but the ice chains broke, and the vengeful corpse swung its claws at her.
Yu Zhu dodged with a somersault, but another claw came from behind her. She turned around and blocked with her sword. The vengeful corpse monster gathered all its strength and pressed forward. Yu Zhu quickly retreated, and the monster missed its target and darted to the front of the main hall.
Shao Zaihuan quickly rolled away to avoid it.
The vengeful corpse twitched its nose slightly and peered into the main hall.
not good!
Ice chains extended from the ground, binding the four legs of the vengeful corpse monster. Yu Zhu raised her sword, filled with spiritual power, and cut off half of its tail.
Enraged, the vengeful corpse broke free of the ice chains once more, opened its blood-red maw, and lunged at Yuzhu.
Yu Zhu threw out the sect leader's sword intent jade tablet, which went down the throat of the vengeful corpse monster and into its stomach.
Bang! Bang!
Two loud explosions rang out, and the vengeful corpse was blasted into several pieces that scattered on the ground.
puff!
Yu Zhu spat out a mouthful of blood. Those two ice chains had consumed a lot of her spiritual power, and the Blood-Drinking Worm was about to lose control of its restless magic.
"If you have this weapon, why didn't you bring it out sooner?"
Shao Zaihuan stood up, leaning against the wall. "Now you can break the formation and let me go."
Yu Zhu looked at the pieces of flesh and blood, which were trembling. She swung her sword at the nearest piece, but the flesh and blood dodged it.
"Kill this thing quickly."
The severed flesh and blood gradually turned black, sprouted limbs, and began to transform into small, vengeful corpses.
Yu Zhu and Shao Zai Huan broke the pieces of flesh, but many still successfully turned into vengeful zombies. A group of small vengeful zombies filled the courtyard, baring their teeth and glaring menacingly.
"Damn it!" Shao Zaihuan cursed again, "Just how many people has this old geezer killed to create such a powerful vengeful corpse monster?"
The spiritual and magical energies clashed violently within her meridians. Yu Zhu was momentarily dazed, her sword-wielding hand trembled slightly, she bit her lip, and her left hand moved slightly.
An ice wall rose up in front of the main hall.
Yu Zhu circulated the spiritual power within her body, her sword-wielding figure becoming a blur, the frost on the sword growing heavier, and when she severed the head of the vengeful corpse, the blood froze into ice before it could even spray out.
Within moments, the horde of vengeful corpses was wiped out.
Yu Zhu knelt on the ground, propping himself up with his sword, and spat out another mouthful of blood.
Shao Zaihuan, his purple robes stained with blood, slumped to the ground and said in a low voice, "You wouldn't happen to be Baili Hanying's disciple, would you?"
Yu Zhu's mind sharpened. "Who are you?"
Shao Zaihuan forced a laugh, "It seems so."
He suddenly swung his fan at Yuzhu. Although Yuzhu drew her sword to defend herself, she was still knocked to the ground and unable to maintain the Mirage Formation.
Shao Zaihuan struck out with his palm, unleashing a burst of demonic energy towards Yu Zhu. Yu Zhu flipped over and countered with a burst of demonic energy of his own, causing Shao Zaihuan to stagger back a few steps and spit out a mouthful of blood.
"You have connections with the Immortal Peak Pavilion? No wonder that old man doesn't like you."
Yu Zhu straightened up, and wisps of magic emanated from behind her. "You can try it."
The two stared at each other for a long time before Shao Zaihuan leaped away.
Yu Zhu closed her eyes and forcibly withdrew her externalized magic power, then coughed up another mouthful of blood.
She sat cross-legged on the spot, introspectively examining her meridians. Her magical power surged, almost occupying more than half of her meridians. The Blood-Drinking Worm was bloated and on the verge of death. Lingguang was indeed right; the Blood-Drinking Worm was of little use. Taking a deep breath, Yuzhu formed hand seals, simultaneously circulating her spiritual and magical power.
Yu Zhu bit her lower lip, partly to endure the excruciating pain from the friction of her meridians, and partly to maintain a clear mind and not be misled by the violent aura of the magic.
After an unknown amount of time, Yu Zhu opened her eyes upon hearing thunder, only to see that the sky in front of her was covered with dark clouds.
Do Golden Core cultivators also face tribulations? No, Golden Core cultivators don't face tribulations.
Yu Zhu entered the room, and Jing Xu was still surrounded by a blue light. The Soul-Binding Threads had not come out, and his soul was still merging. Could he survive the tribulation of lightning?
Yu Zhu took out Jing Xu's spiritual energy bag from his chest, broke the restriction, found the clan's sword intent jade tablet, and stuffed it into his hand.
Then they retreated outside.
After a while, two thunderbolts struck. Yu Zhu saw that the sword intent jade tablet had shattered. Was the thunder really that powerful? She had thought it was just a formality to show off Jing Xu's extraordinary status.
Just as the third bolt of lightning was about to strike, Yu Zhu flashed into the house and raised her hand to create a magic shield, as her spiritual power had not yet fully recovered.
Feeling that it was about time, Yu Zhu removed the magic shield and jumped away, allowing Jing Xu to withstand some of the tempering power of the lightning tribulation.
Yu Zhu looked up at the sky and saw lightning flashing and thunder rumbling between the clouds, as if a fourth lightning bolt was about to strike. A quarter of an hour later, the dark clouds gradually dispersed.
Reassured, Yu Zhu took out her communication jade tablet. The Ying Tian Sect disciples reported that they were no match for the enemy and had withdrawn from Manyie Valley, awaiting further instructions. Yu Zhu replied that they were safe and awaiting her orders.
Then she faced Jingxu, sat cross-legged against the wall, and continued what she had been doing.
Feeling a soft touch on her face, Yu Zhu looked up and saw Jing Xu kneeling down, looking at her with worried eyes.
It turned out that Yu Zhu's body was covered in frost. Jing Xu used a handkerchief to wipe the frost off her face, and Yu Zhu took the handkerchief and wiped herself haphazardly a few times.
"Are you alright? You... haven't become a different person, have you?" Yu Zhu asked softly.
