Chapter 570 The Moat (2/2)

"Thank you, Auntie." The girl smiled sweetly and walked straight to the seat where Gu Feng had just been sitting, pulling out a chair to sit down.

"Oh, girl, there's a clean spot over there!" Sister Wang quickly waved her hand, "I haven't cleaned this table yet, it's all greasy."

"It's okay, this is fine." After the girl sat down, she gently touched the beer bottle that Gu Feng had just used. Her smile remained sweet, but she secretly added in her heart: Anyway, we'll be family sooner or later.

To secure this deal that could support his family for six months, Gu Feng practically risked his life by drinking excessively.

He kept chugging down glass after glass of liquor in the private room, his stomach burning like fire, his temples throbbing, but with sheer tenacity, he firmly held onto the contract.

As he stepped out of the restaurant, a gust of evening wind made his steps unsteady, his face flushed red like a boiled shrimp, and even his eyes were misty with tears.

Gu Feng leaned against a sycamore tree by the roadside, bent over and rested for a while before swaying and raising his hand to flag down a car.

The taxi screeched to a halt in front of him. He opened the door, slumped into the back seat like a lump of mud, mumbled his home address, and leaned his head against the window.

The coolness of the glass seeped through the thin shirt, slightly dispelling the effects of the alcohol, but my head still ached as if being struck by a blunt object, my consciousness constantly teetering between clarity and confusion.

The car's inertia made him sway slightly, and in his dazed state, a familiar female voice suddenly drifted from the car stereo—"The evening breeze sweeps by... starlight fills your eyes."

It is Tang Qi's song.

The sound was like a fine needle, suddenly piercing his confused nerves. Gu Feng's eyes, which had almost closed, suddenly opened, and his pupils contracted slightly.

He stared at the roof light, the gentle yet penetrating voice of Tang Qi ringing in his ears.

My mind was instantly thrown into turmoil.

Over the years, Tang Qi has become a household name as a singer, and her songs are played on repeat in the streets and alleys, but Gu Feng has never dared to listen to them seriously.

Hearing that voice reminds me of the girl who cried that night because of her unexpected pregnancy, of the two of them making a pact with each other with red eyes, and of Gu Luo's face that is becoming more and more like Lin Yilin's.

He raised his hand and pressed his brow, but the coldness of his fingertips couldn't suppress the bitterness in his heart. He could only listen to the whole song quietly, fueled by his drunkenness.

The taxi swayed and rattled along, the neon lights outside the window stretching into colorful ribbons in his eyes.

After an unknown amount of time, the car came to a stop with a "click".

Gu Feng slowly sat up, his head still heavy. He fumbled to pay the bill, then pushed open the car door and stumbled out.

But after taking only two steps, he froze. What lay before him was not the familiar entrance to his residential compound, but rather the century-old moat of Caizhou.

The willows on the riverbank swayed gently in the evening breeze, and the light from the streetlights cast shimmering reflections on the river.

"What's going on..." Gu Feng scratched his messy hair, his mind a little confused.

Could it be... that I remembered it wrong?

Was it a subconscious desire to come here?

Gu Feng turned around, intending to go back and question the driver.

But behind him, only the taxi's red taillights grew ever more distant, soon disappearing into the intersection.

With a sigh, Gu Feng staggered to the stone railing by the river—since he was already here, he might as well enjoy the evening breeze.

The wind is exceptionally cool tonight, carrying the moist scent of the river, and it feels wonderful on my face.

Gu Feng had just leaned on the stone railing to catch his breath when his phone suddenly rang in his pocket.

He struggled to pull out his phone, the screen's light making him squint. It was a message from his son, Gu Luo: "Dad, drink less alcohol. Xiaoman is asleep. I left you some hangover soup in a thermos. Remember to drink it."

Looking at the text on the screen, Gu Feng chuckled to himself, the fine lines around his eyes crinkling up.

He wiped his face and shouted at the river, "Look, this is my son! How sensible he is!"

After shouting, he laughed to himself, like a child who had received candy, muttering to himself, "Much better than his biological father...much better than me..."
