Chapter 590 Knowing One's Limits (1/2)

Chapter 590 With Proper Measure A checkered tablecloth covered the dining table, which was piled high with steaming dishes, their aroma filling the living room.

Luo Shuning's culinary skills have become quite exquisite under Gu Luo's tutelage.

The braised beef brisket was stewed until tender and fell off the bone, with a thick sauce coating the meat and an enticing dark brown color; the steamed sea bass had bulging eyes and snow-white, tender flesh, and the soy sauce drizzled on top made one's mouth water; there were also bright green stir-fried vegetables and golden egg dumplings. Every dish was a feast for the eyes, nose, and palate, and even the plating was exquisite.

Gu Luo was starving. He had been up all night and hadn't eaten breakfast. He had just had another "battle" and could now eat a whole head of vine.

He picked up his chopsticks and shoveled rice into his mouth, his cheeks puffed out like a hamster's. He chewed the beef brisket with relish, and ate the rice quickly, mixing it with the broth.

Gu Ximan was not to be outdone. She was even more agile than Gu Luo in grabbing the food. With a swift movement of her chopsticks, she snatched the tenderest piece of meat from the fish belly, her mouth stuffed full. She mumbled, "Hey, you stinky old man, don't take it! It's all mine!"

"It's all up to your skills!" Gu Luo twisted his wrist, his chopsticks precisely intercepting the piece of meat she was aiming for, stuffing it into his mouth and deliberately smacking his lips.

The two women were vying for each other's attention, and Gu Ximan showed absolutely no ladylike or gentlemanly demeanor at this moment.

Luo Shuning sat opposite them, watching the lively scene. She couldn't help but smile slightly and reached out to put a piece of beef brisket on each of their plates: "Don't fight over it. There's still meat at home. We can make more if we need more."

As soon as she finished speaking, her gaze fell on Shen Qingling.

Shen Qingling sat next to Luo Shuning, her rice barely touched, her chopsticks hovering over the bowl, her eyes unfocused as she stared at the checkered pattern on the tablecloth, her expression somewhat blank. This state had been going on for most of the day.

Luo Shuning gently tapped the rim of her bowl and asked softly, "Qingling, what are you thinking about? Why aren't you eating?"

Shen Qingling suddenly snapped out of her daze, her lips moved, and she subconsciously blurted out four words: "Sandwich cookie".

Upon hearing this, Gu Luo and Gu Ximan paused in their eating, and all three looked at her with strange expressions.

"Pfft—" Gu Ximan's shoveling of rice suddenly stopped, her chopsticks almost fell to the ground, and she almost spat out the rice in her mouth. She finally managed to swallow it down, then clutched her stomach and laughed so hard she almost fell over. Pointing at Luo Shuning, she said intermittently, "This, this, here, Sister Ning is the most delicious 'filling'!"

She pointed at Gu Luo and herself, laughing until tears streamed down her face: "We're like 'biscuits'! Hahaha, Qingling, you're quite the describer! You have the flair of Benman!"

Luo Shuning couldn't hold back either, and a smile spilled out in her eyes. She picked up a tissue and handed it to Gu Ximan, then looked at Shen Qingling, whose face was flushed, and teased, "Qingling, would you like to eat a sandwich cookie? If you do, we can make it happen for you."

Hearing these lewd words, Gu Luo's lips twitched slightly.

Clearly, as long as Shen Qingling is around, these two automatically become allies.

He quickly buried his head in his rice, pretending not to hear, and silently recited the mantra "treat everyone equally."

Shen Qingling's breathing quickened instantly, her chest heaving violently. She opened her mouth but couldn't utter a single word. The image of the white blur at the bedroom door and the howling of ghosts flashed through her mind again. This image was becoming her inner demon.

Humans cannot, at the very least, should not, do this... this...

Fortunately, Luo Shuning knew her place. Seeing that she was so embarrassed she was about to burst out laughing, she stopped teasing her, put a piece of sea bass into her bowl, and changed the subject: "After Aunt Tang's concert ends, I plan to drop out of school and devote myself to the entertainment industry."

"Okay, I support you!" Gu Luo was the first to put down his chopsticks and express his support, his eyes firm: "Go ahead and make your mark, there will be plenty of songs."

Gu Ximan also waved her little fist and came over, nuzzling Shen Qingling's arm: "Sister Ning is the best! I'll be your number one fan from now on!"

Shen Qingling pursed her lips, looked at the tender fish in the bowl, and then at the three people with sincere smiles at the table. Her tense shoulders gradually relaxed, and she said softly, "If you need any help, just say so. Don't be shy."

Upon hearing this, Luo Shuning's smile deepened. She raised her teacup and gestured to the three of them, "Thank you, everyone. No matter how much we bicker in private, we're still family. Let's drink tea instead of wine and wish each other all the best."

"cheers!"

Gu Luo and Gu Ximan immediately raised their cups, and Shen Qingling hesitated for a moment before raising her teacup as well.

The four cups clinked gently, making a crisp sound, and the aroma on the lunch table became even stronger. Even the slight embarrassment from before turned into a unique kind of fun among family members.

Gu Ximan snatched the last piece of beef brisket into her mouth, chewing until her cheeks were bulging. She put down her chopsticks and raised her hand like a student answering a question in class: "I'm full! My energy is back! Let's keep fighting!"
