Chapter 602 Is the Daughter the Other Woman? (1/2)

Chapter 602 Is My Daughter the Other Woman? Just then, Lin Ting's barely suppressed, urgent voice could be faintly heard in the background of the phone call. Then, the phone seemed to be snatched away, and Lin Ting's sharp, angry voice erupted, penetrating the receiver and clearly audible in the quiet hotel room:

"Xuexue! Go home right now! Get away from that bastard! You bastard! You actually took my daughter to a hotel! You'll get what's coming to you! You bastard! You..."

The mother's curses were filled with heartache and uncontrollable rage.

Lu Xuexue pursed her lips tightly, listening to her mother's unbearable accusations against Gu Luo, her body trembling slightly due to the intense emotional turmoil.

Suddenly, as if she had made up her mind, she took a deep breath, and with all her might, shouted into the phone. Her voice rose with excitement, trembling with emotion, yet it was unusually firm:

"Mom! He's not a jerk! He's my man! I came here willingly! I brought him here! It was your daughter who brought him here!"

Hot tears welled up instantly, sliding down the girl's smooth cheeks, but she stubbornly held her head high, her voice growing clearer and more resolute, each word ringing with conviction:

"He's my man, I won't allow you to talk about him like that! That's it! I'll be home tonight!"

After saying that, Lu Xuexue pressed the hang-up button forcefully without waiting for a response, then clutched the phone tightly in her hand, as if it were her only support at that moment.

She raised her teary eyes and looked at Gu Luo, who was equally shocked. Her chest heaved violently, like a wounded little beast baring its fangs to protect its territory.

The phone kept vibrating, and the word "Dad" on the screen lit up and then went dark, but Gu Luo's attention was entirely on the person in his arms.

He stared blankly at Lu Xuexue's reddened eyes. Her words were like a pebble thrown into a lake, spreading warmth throughout his heart. His heart felt warm, like he was holding a hot water bottle.

He tightened his arms and hugged Lu Xuexue even tighter—her shoulders were so thin, yet she insisted on bearing the pressure of meeting his parents for him; her thoughtfulness made him both heartbroken and moved.

The two embraced quietly, their heartbeats mingling with the vibrations of their phones echoing in the room, neither of them answering.

After a long while, Gu Luo loosened his grip slightly, gently wiping away the tears that hadn't dried at the corners of her eyes with his fingertips, and said softly, "Xuexue, let's go, let's go to your house now. Since I touched you, I will definitely take responsibility for you."

“Brother Gu…” Lu Xuexue’s eyes shone like obsidian soaked in water. Hearing the words “take responsibility”, her heart was filled with sweetness. She gently pecked Gu Luo’s lips, feeling their softness.

She shook her head, pressed her small hand against his chest, and said in a slightly nasal voice with great determination, "Brother Gu, can you leave this to me? Aunt Luo hasn't sorted things out completely yet. I'll take you home to meet Mom and Dad after I've taken care of things at home."

Gu Luo opened his mouth, but hesitated. He didn't want Lu Xuexue to face the pressure from her parents alone, but seeing the determination in her eyes, he swallowed back the rebuttal that was on the tip of his tongue.

He was willing to believe in this seemingly fragile but very opinionated young girl.

In the brief moment of their embrace, Lu Xuexue felt a strange sensation in her stomach and realized the game wasn't over yet. Her cheeks flushed instantly, and her voice was barely a whisper: "Brother Gu, let's... let's continue..."

"Cough cough..." Gu Luo was choked by her blunt words and thought to himself that it was indeed not appropriate to continue playing games at this time.

He reached out and patted her little head, his fingertips brushing against her soft hair, his tone coaxing: "Wait until next time. Xuexue, you go home first. Your phone has been ringing for so long, your parents must be worried sick. Don't be afraid, if they ask, just say my name. Your brother Gu is always here for you."

Seeing his earnest gaze, Lu Xuexue didn't insist any further and nodded.

The two quickly got dressed. Gu Luo straightened her wrinkled skirt and tucked her stray hair behind her ears, his movements as meticulous as if he were handling a rare treasure.

As they stepped out of the hotel, a gentle evening breeze blew, and the two fell into a silent understanding.

One was thinking about how to help Xuexue share the burden, while the other was figuring out what to say when they got home. The streetlights cast long shadows of them, which occasionally overlapped.

"Xuebao, isn't it a bit of a waste to open a five-star hotel?" Gu Luo joked, breaking the silence and trying to ease the tension.

Lu Xuexue blinked her still slightly red eyes, her gaze towards him carrying a firmness that others couldn't understand, and softly replied, "It won't be wasted."

Gu Luo assumed Lu Xuexue was referring to the fact that he could bring Gu Ximan and Shen Qingling later, so he didn't continue the topic and instead arranged a ride-hailing service.

A short while later, the ride-hailing car arrived.

When Lu Xuexue got into the car, she rolled down the window and waved to Gu Luo. She didn't look away until the car started moving.

Gu Luo stood by the roadside, watching the taillights of the ride-hailing car grow farther and farther away until it disappeared into the traffic at the intersection, and sighed heavily.

A while ago, Aunt Luo and her father caught them red-handed at the moat. Now even Xuexue's parents have noticed something amiss. Caizhou is neither big nor small.

It's a battlefield of carnage everywhere.

Inside the carriage, Lu Xuexue's delicate expression vanished instantly, replaced by a desperate calm.

She leaned against the car window, watching the neon lights and street scenes flash by outside, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the necklace around her neck.

Then she murmured softly, "This is fate."
