Chapter 51 Night Kiss "So, are you going to punish me?"
“I don’t know. At that time, I only had a remnant soul left. By the time I had the strength to inquire about the news, Kunlun had already listed you as a taboo and never mentioned you again.” Jiu Su sighed very softly, “But now the Immortal Capital no longer exists, and there is nowhere to find the root of these old stories… It may not be a bad thing that you don’t remember.”
Shu Qingxin thought to herself: That's hard to say.
However, since there was no answer to this question for the time being, she put it aside and asked, "Then were all the things I dreamed about before true?"
"What's up?"
Shu Qing then recounted all her dreams to him from beginning to end, from the mountain dungeon to their travels and painting together, leaving nothing out. Finally, she said, "I also often dream of my death. I'm lying in a desolate wilderness, surrounded by blood. Then, I think I see you… After meeting you, I realized it was you."
"You later asked me questions like, 'If I could start over, what would I want?' And the result was..."
Jiu Su stared at her, a hint of nervousness showing in her eyes.
Shu Qing said regretfully, "I didn't seize the opportunity to make a wish!"
"Did I tell you I wanted to be an ordinary person?" Every time she thought about it, she wanted to tear her hair out. "I regret it now. Is it too late for me to wish for my parents to become rich? I don't want to struggle anymore, I want financial freedom..."
Jiu Su: "..."
Bai panicked, then indifferently turned his face away, refusing, "No, it's too late. Besides, haven't I made you any money?"
“Oh,” Shu Qing nodded knowingly, “So, you admit that it really was you, right?”
Jiu Su had no choice but to admit, "It was me."
"So, those dreams were all my past memories?" Shu Qing continued to ask, "Is this... a memory awakening? Then why did I forget those things? You said there's no reincarnation, so it couldn't be something like the Bridge of Helplessness or the River of Oblivion. Besides, if there's no such thing as reincarnation, how did I come back to life? Why did I become like this?"
"It's a long story." The self-healing power of innate spiritual creatures is rare in the world. In just over ten minutes, Jiu Su's aura has stabilized a lot and her condition has improved considerably.
It wasn't appropriate for them to just sit on the ground, so the two of them moved to a bench in the corner and started to have a long talk.
Jiu Su began by answering her first question: "Yes, your dreams are all things we did together in the past, and actually there are more. As for why you forgot... after you died, your soul would dissipate, so you wouldn't retain any memories. Later, I tried to gather your soul together, but it takes a long time to nourish it. Almost two thousand years have passed, so it's normal that you forgot."
These words seemed distant from her own life, but Shu Qing didn't find them unfamiliar. They were all things she had personally experienced, only forgotten over the long years. Now, when others brought them up, she felt a strange sense of familiarity.
"Can I still remember?"
“…Actually, many sad things happened in the past.” Jiu Su shook her head. “Forcing yourself to recall them won’t do any good; it will only cause you more pain. It’s better to let them go. You insisted on getting to the bottom of things before because you doubted my intentions, but surely you still don’t believe me now?”
His last words sounded so aggrieved and pitiful. Shu Qing already felt sorry for him, and after hearing them, she felt even more affection for him. She quickly touched his face and said, "No, no, you're already like this, I believe you."
Jiu Su smiled and took her hand. "Then let nature take its course?"
“Okay,” Shu Qing promised. “Yesterday’s events are like yesterday’s death, and besides, we’ve already died. From now on, we’ll be reborn. Let’s live this life well together.”
Jiu Su looked at her with a smile in her eyes, which shone like stars.
"But then again... to live this life well, we first need to live it well." Shu Qing suddenly grabbed the collar Jiu Su was wearing, shook it in her hand, and said, "This thing is too dangerous. Haven't you heard of the 'white bear'?"
Jiu Su had indeed heard of high-intensity surfing. His neck was restrained, forcing him to lower his head, thus losing the ability to nod, and he could only blink: "I know."
"The more you forbid me from thinking about something, the easier it is for me to think about it," Shu Qing said. "Just thinking about it could kill you. It's too dangerous. What if we have a fight one day and I lose my temper? Even if I can control my mind when I'm awake, what if I have a nightmare one day?"
If this were to be accidentally mishandled and result in a bloody incident, it would be such a terrible injustice.
One of them will live the rest of his life in pain and guilt, while the other is completely dead. What "present" is there for them?
Jiu Su couldn't help but laugh out loud, and grasped Shu Qing's hand in return, saying, "You underestimate the Super Management Bureau's technology too much. You have to make a serious wish, otherwise it won't come true. Try it if you don't believe me."
Shu Qing was skeptical, but she tried to recall the thought: "Should I make Xiao Hong turn back into her original form?"
Sure enough, she still sensed something in the darkness, but there was no response. It was as if something was far away, revealing a glimpse of its magnificence to her, and she had to concentrate her mind to "reach" for it in order to truly touch it.
Seeing that her expression relaxed, Jiu Su smiled and said, "I gave you this to put your mind at ease, not to make you worry about something else. As for the rest, go and look up the Super Management Bureau's instruction manual on 'Regulators'."
He had previously said that the regulatory tools from the Supermarket Management Bureau were useless to him, so Shu Qing hadn't even looked at the instruction manual. Turns out, he created a useful set himself, unnecessarily adding another reading task for her.
"Alright." Shu Qing adjusted the pendant on the collar again and continued to ask, "So this actually uses the Bureau of Superpowers' black technology? Does it only have negative, harmful abilities, and absolutely no healing or positive functions?"
Jiu Su was silent for a moment, then said helplessly, "It used to be."
Shu Qing nodded. "But?"
"The demonic power I cultivate excels at destruction, but not at repair," Jiu Su obediently explained. "I only used the rules set by the Super Management Bureau, but the energy I connected to was my own demonic power, so..."
Shu Qing fell silent after hearing this, silently thinking to herself: So you've cultivated such destructive power, and now you're using it to deal with yourself, is that it?
While it's true that some wise people have said, "Man's greatest enemy is himself," that's not what you should do!
Seeing that she was silent, Jiu Su smiled and asked, "Is there any other question? I can explain it all at once."
Shu Qing said weakly, "That's all for now. I'll ask you again when I remember."
"Well... there's one more thing I need to tell you."
Shu Qing raised one eyebrow, glanced at him, and snorted twice, meaning: hurry up and tell the truth.
“I asked you for a drop of blood before.” Jiu Su carefully observed her expression and said cautiously, “This collar is connected to your blood essence and soul. As long as I wear it, I can always sense where you are, even if we are thousands of miles apart, or if you are in some kind of maze or strange place, the connection cannot be severed.”
Shu Qing stared at him with a blank expression.
"I know you'll mind, and I didn't dare hide it from you. But... this is the best I could think of. Will you blame me?"
Shu Qing watched him silently for a couple of minutes without either of them saying a word.
She actually felt that Jiu Su's initial insistence was correct, and her mother was right as well. He wasn't a high-quality boyfriend in the practical sense, even though he was good-looking, a perfect homemaker, and could earn money.
Jiu Su's attitude towards relationships is too obsessive, too domineering, and too heartfelt. His love, from beginning to end, lacks any of the "healthy feelings" that modern people understand. Whether it's "I'll entrust my life to you so you can feel at ease," "I can sense your location at any time," or "We'll never be apart," it's all irrational, extreme, and a desperate gamble.
Modern relationships should be rational, gentle, and restrained. Love should be reserved for each other, and when love fades, a peaceful breakup is best. A relationship that doesn't negatively impact one's career, life, or friends and family—that's the right kind of relationship.
The stronger the love, the more it resembles poison, and the more easily it can disrupt the peaceful and tranquil daily life.
He was a variable in her peaceful life, becoming increasingly insane. From once wielding a knife for her and drinking blood, to now promising her life and death, he didn't meet any of the standards of modern love.
He was completely wrong.
Jiu Su waited in vain for an answer, her expression darkening, and she lowered her eyelashes.
Shu Qing sighed softly at this moment and said helplessly, "If you post this on social media, ten thousand people will advise me to break up with you."
Jiu Su sensed a hidden meaning in her words and stared at her intently.
"Divide my ass," Shu Qing thought.
Whoever wants that standard kind of love, go for it. In this life and the next, she has always loved him, and he is that kind of unreserved, unrestrained monster who would give her everything.
He has already gone against his nature to this extent, what more do they want from him?
Meeting his bloodshot eyes, Shu Qing silently commanded, "Control him."
Pure white chill surged uncontrollably from Jiu Su's body, instantly transforming into white ropes that bound him from head to toe. Jiu Su struggled but failed to break free, giving her a live demonstration of what it means to be trapped in one's own web.
He was bound and unable to move, yet he laughed, relaxing as he leaned back on the bench, staring intently at her. His silver hair was disheveled, his white clothes were in disarray, and the bloodstains that had just been splattered on him were still wet, leaving specks of crimson on his clothes. A red rope was tied around his neck, making him almost dazzlingly beautiful.
The snake's tail, once magnificent and unique, is now folded and bound together, leaving only the tip. It has been deemed "incapable of attacking" but still manageable to move around.
Jiu Su used the tip of her only free tail to tug at the hem of her skirt and asked, "So, are you going to punish me?"
"Mmm," Shu Qing mumbled in response, then leaned closer and cupped his face in her hands. So close, she could smell the lingering scent of blood in his breath.
“I’m terrified,” she said frankly. “You can see that.”
"yes."
“When Chen Minghui wanted to kill me, I wasn’t afraid; I only wanted to kill him,” Shu Qing said. “But I can’t do that with you. I’m afraid that you’re the one who harbors ill intentions towards me, that I can’t accept that it’s you… But I’ve already done the same thing to you once before. Don’t you hate me at all?”
"What do you think?" he smiled again, "Unforgettable."
Shu Qing murmured, "Silly monster."
She moved closer to him, but he still stared at her with his eyes wide open, not even bothering to close them. There was no need to trouble the magical necklace for such a small matter; Shu Qing simply used one hand to cover his eyes.
There was still blood on his lips, making his soft lips look like a bloodstained sword.
Shu Qing didn't care about anything else and lowered her head to kiss him deeply.
