"A bunch of opportunists! If it weren't for the boss, they would have died eight hundred times over! Damn it!" Li Fei jumped up and was about to rush out, but Fang Zhiyi stopped him.
"Why are you getting so worked up... Others have connections, what do you have? A back view?"
"But...sigh!" Li Fei clenched his fist heavily.
"Don't rush, the better days are yet to come." Fang Zhiyi squinted her eyes and leaned back in her chair with a look of enjoyment.
Under Gu Heng's leadership, the Guardian team successfully dealt with several strange occurrences in the vicinity. Unlike Fang Zhiyi's low-key approach, he was extremely high-profile every time he returned to the city after completing a mission, and soon the entire city's residents knew the name Gu Heng.
But the more this happened, the more uncomfortable Li Fei and the others felt, finding fault with Gu Heng no matter what.
But they had no choice. Gu Heng was clearly targeting them, even leaving several of the original main forces to guard the stronghold, supposedly to watch over important supplies.
While Li Fei and his companions sighed and complained all day long, Fang Zhiyi was happy to be at ease.
Even every time Lin Wanxing returned, Fang Zhiyi would personally greet her. As the saying goes, one cannot hit a smiling face. Fang Zhiyi kept a very humble attitude, and Gu Heng did not make things difficult for him. In particular, Fang Zhiyi always maintained a positive attitude towards Lin Wanxing's helpfulness.
Gu Heng was certain that Fang Zhiyi just wanted to curry favor with Lin Wanxing. That made sense, otherwise, with Fang Zhiyi's abilities, at best she would just be a guardian in this small town for the rest of her life.
"Our supplies are running low..."
Faced with yet another group of refugees, Lin Wanxing remained very generous, almost always granting their requests. However, he overheard Fang Zhiyi say something else.
Fang Zhiyi seemed a little embarrassed.
Lin Wanxing was taken aback: "I remember there were quite a few..."
Fang Zhiyi pushed open the warehouse door with a wry smile; inside, there were only a few empty boxes in the corner.
“We had stored up enough supplies that headquarters allocated for half a year, but because we had to help refugees, there wasn’t much left.” Fang Zhiyi observed the young lady’s expression. “But I think Wanxing, you did a great job. Now everyone in our city knows Gu Heng’s name, and quite a few people know that Miss Lin is a very good person.”
Lin Wanxing blushed slightly upon hearing this.
"However, I do have an idea..."
"you say."
Fang Zhiyi frowned, looking troubled: "The garrison has reserves. They're responsible for city security, and their supplies are more plentiful than ours. It's just that I don't have the authority to grant permission. If you, Lin Wanxing, were to speak to them, they would definitely grant it out of respect for your grandfather." He paused, "Saving so many people, it's clear only you could do that."
These words reassured Lin Wanxing, who was hesitant. She thought of the words of gratitude those people had expressed to her, which made her feel incredibly comfortable.
"Really? Then I'll go right now!" She got up and walked out, completely unaware that Fang Zhiyi's smile had become somewhat strange.
Upon learning of Lin Wanxing's needs, Gu Heng said, "It seems like they're asking for a lot of supplies... The garrison probably won't agree to that, will they?"
Lin Wanxing held Gu Heng's hand and said earnestly, "Although we are guardians, we are human beings just like them. There is no reason for us to be well-fed while they have to go hungry."
Gu Heng looked at the hand she was holding, his heart fluttered, and a sense of pride welled up within him: "No problem!"
"Don't worry, I have my grandpa with me!" she assured him, patting her chest.
