The shouts and curses behind her made Wang Qian turn around in a daze, only to see a face full of hatred. Bai Haomin tackled her to the ground and punched her in the face.
The vicious criminals finally found an outlet for their pent-up anger, and the marching crowd immediately descended into chaos.
Screams and curses mingled together.
Two criminals tried to escape, but as soon as they took a step to either side of the road, both of them were hit in the calves by arrows. Zhao Hu, holding a crossbow in his hand, said with a murderous look on his face: "Go back!"
When the protesters tried to run back, they found that the guards who had previously allowed them to pass had now blocked their way.
"Because of the prison break, no one is allowed to leave!" the leader shouted.
"You're violating our rights..." some people were still chanting slogans until an arrow pierced straight into their shoulder. Only then did they stop and look at the menacing guards opposite them, realizing that something was wrong.
They are now in the apocalypse, and in front of them are dozens or even hundreds of guards armed with lethal weapons.
"I'll say it again, because of the prison break, no one can leave, to prevent criminals from escaping among you!" the captain shouted, then muttered, "If you like marching and chanting slogans, keep it up. Hope you can rely on your rights to help you."
The conflict lasted for two hours.
The guards finally went out, and many of them were actually injured. They were facing murderers with great resentment, and even though they had the advantage in numbers, they couldn't gain the upper hand, which made the guards' cleanup work much easier.
"Is it over?" Fang Zhiyi looked at Chen Rui who pushed the door open and came in.
Chen Rui looked at the booklet in his hand and nodded: "Yes, the prison cells that were built earlier have also come in handy." He looked up at Fang Zhiyi and reported the data in his hand truthfully, "Two hundred and thirty-eight criminals escaped, and fifty-eight died. Fortunately, they were all brought back. A total of five hundred and seventy-three criminals were captured."
"Perfect timing. We'll be repairing the wall and reclaiming wasteland soon, and this seems to be just about enough for now."
Chen Rui continued, "Zhao Hu and his team are already conducting expedited interrogations. According to their confessions, some of them have fled to the homes of ordinary residents, and we expect to catch them soon."
The incident was reported throughout the base the following day. Human rights organizations attempted to release the criminals, which resulted in a large-scale conflict. The perpetrators are now being punished in accordance with base regulations.
Those who supported Fang Zhiyi cheered, the former victims clenched their fists and waved them, and the neutral public, although they had no knowledge of Fang Zhiyi, knew that those who committed crimes deserved it, and they also cursed those who had a good life but chose to cause trouble.
During the population registration period at the base, some who had slipped through the net were also brought back.
The benefits of this are evident: construction began on the outer perimeter wall of the base, and some woodland on the hillside was cleared and leveled, then rationally allocated to residents who did not yet have stable employment.
