Fang Zhiyi nodded slightly and turned to go inside, but was suddenly stopped by someone. He turned around and saw a man carrying the bag of flour walking over: "It's yours, right? Keep it safe."
Fang Zhiyi took the bag of flour, looked the man up and down in the dim light, thanked him, and the man waved casually before returning to the stairwell.
Meanwhile, the residents, no longer sleepy, began discussing what had just happened, creating a strangely harmonious and lively atmosphere.
Unlike the original owner's plan to hide in the shadows, Fang Zhiyi opened the door as soon as he woke up and then leisurely wandered around. He wasn't worried about danger at all, because in this world, he didn't believe there was anything more dangerous than him.
He knocked on his neighbor's door and politely asked to see their balcony. The neighbor was a little wary, but seeing that Fang Zhiyi was alone and didn't have any weapons, he let him in. Fang Zhiyi walked straight through the living room, ignoring the nervous neighbors, and stood on the balcony looking outside. The neighbor's balcony was different from his own; it faced south. He only glanced at it a few times before thanking the neighbor and politely leaving.
The family looked at the closed door with a puzzled expression.
"Dad, what is he doing?"
"have no idea."
"Honey, please don't open the door so easily anymore... those people outside look really fierce..."
"Okay, we won't open it. Don't worry, everything will be back to normal once the rain stops."
The two families, who had been discussing things last night, were now on the verge of a fight, pushing and shoving each other over who had an extra person to eat. Fang Zhiyi walked straight through them, leaving the two families who were about to come to blows somewhat bewildered.
"I'll just take a look outside, you guys continue." Fang Zhiyi said as she walked to the small window in the corridor and looked outside. Although the rain obstructed her view, she could still make out some buildings not far away.
However, because of his arrival, the two families who were about to fight separated and announced that they would eat separately and mind their own business from now on.
Just like in the original story, as the heavy rain continued, another floor was flooded. The residents on that floor, like their neighbors, fled to the upper floors. The oppressive atmosphere and terrible environment made people emotional, and the arguments and shoving escalated.
The fragile order that had been barely maintained was shattered when the first person raised their fist.
The cries came from outside. Chen Rui turned to look at the door, opened his mouth as if to say something, but seeing Fang Zhiyi picking and choosing what to eat, he finally shut his mouth.
It was his girlfriend, Li Duo, who spoke up: "Should we go take a look?"
Chen Rui thought for only two seconds before shaking his head and saying, "Forget it, don't cause trouble for others. Don't meddle in things that don't concern us."
Li Duo nodded and quietly ate her food.
In just a few days, water began to seep into the tenth floor as well, and a piercing scream echoed throughout the entire corridor.
"Robbery! Murder!"
Many people stood up in alarm and looked down. Some looked ashen-faced, while others stared blankly at the gaps in the stair railing as if possessed.
The shouts and banging on doors indicated that some people had lost their morals and conscience, and had stormed into the homes of those residents in high-rise buildings in order to survive.
Li Duo and Chen Rui stood together at the door, both looking unhappy. Li Duo looked at her boyfriend and asked, "Isn't anyone going to do anything about this?"
Chen Rui shook his head with a wry smile: "It's already like this, who can care about anything else? We're just doing our job."
