“In this world, some people are single-mindedly evil, while some demons are single-mindedly devoted to the Tao. It’s both sad and lamentable…” Fang Zhiyi sighed. No wonder the black bear could consecrate the talisman he drew. It seems that this patriarch was not some dogmatic deity.
The black bear spirit looked at him, his eyes still wary.
Xiao Hei also breathed a sigh of relief. It knew better than anyone that Fang Zhiyi's only way to save his life was the mouse in his sleeve. He had called Xiao Bai in earlier, partly to check the demonic energy, and partly to prepare for a self-destruction.
Fortunately, I don't have to take the blame anymore.
"What kind of blockhead are you?" Fang Zhiyi suddenly said, then walked to the door, reached out and pinched the face of a little Taoist boy.
This action made the black bear spirit a little nervous, but fortunately Fang Zhiyi did not take any further action.
"Look at you, so pale and thin. Do you think all humans are like you, searching the whole mountain for food when they're hungry? Just eating a few bites of radishes and greens in the backyard? I'm afraid two more of you will starve to death before your master comes back."
"I, I..." The black bear spirit was speechless.
It had never left the mountain from the beginning. In addition, it knew that there was a war outside and it had to guard the Taoist temple, so it was naturally unwilling to go out. The only way it could think of was to learn from what it had seen before that the worshippers would buy the master's talismans, but it could not draw them itself. So when it saw the talismans drawn by Fang Zhiyi, it was tempted, but its ambition was not great.
"We're waiting for pilgrims to come. Even if pilgrims do come, what use is the money to you? Are you just going to eat silver to fill your stomach?"
The black bear lowered its head, somewhat annoyed, as if it hadn't even considered these things.
Fang Zhiyi suddenly leaned closer to it: "Here's what we'll do. You listen to me, I'll take it and sell it. After I sell it, I'll buy you food, clothing, and other necessities. Then you can help me process them... Your two junior brothers can live, you can live, and you can guard the Taoist temple. How about that?"
The black bear spirit looked up at Fang Zhiyi, unable to discern whether what the person in front of it was saying was true or false.
But its mind was a mess, so it simply nodded: "You mean what you say?"
"Of course, I, Daoist Master, always keep my word!"
The black bear spirit was rather simple-minded: "Alright! Then I'll leave it all to you!"
Fang Zhiyi changed the subject: "However, shouldn't we help each other out?"
"Um?"
"Take me down the mountain."
"Oh, oh, okay."
Xiao Hei said with some disdain, "You're so inhumane. So you're just afraid of coming down the mountain yourself?"
Fang Zhiyi retorted confidently, "Is it my fault? Who knows what kind of monsters we'll run into when we get back! Wouldn't it be better to have more help?"
Xiao Hei glanced at the black bear spirit. It seemed this monster didn't know his own strength... At Fang Zhiyi's current level, this bear could kill him with a single sit.
"Big liar."
"Don't talk nonsense. This is a mutually beneficial relationship between us, you understand?"
Whether it was because of the black bear's escort or not, Fang Zhiyi descended the mountain smoothly, without even hearing a single ghostly wail.
Upon reaching a populated area, the black bear hurriedly ran away without looking back, as it was rushing back to the Taoist temple.
"She's really simple-minded," Fang Zhiyi remarked, watching the black bear's retreating figure.
Xiao Bai jumped down from his sleeve and transformed into a beautiful young girl in the blink of an eye.
"Master Dao, where are we going now?" It was becoming more and more admiring of Fang Zhiyi. Such a huge black bear spirit, yet Fang Zhiyi had made it obedient without even lifting a finger. It was truly... amazing!
"Where to? Home, for revenge!"
