Chapter 8 Windman's Inn

Old Huang stood there stunned for a full ten seconds before sighing and saying, "Michael, look at you. I told you to follow her so we could find her in Dali, but now we're all going our separate ways. This has ruined my plans!"

I replied with dissatisfaction, "Mr. Huang, she's a woman. I can't possibly follow her around for everything, from eating and drinking to using the bathroom. She's deliberately trying to avoid me. How can I possibly keep up with her?"

"We still need to keep in touch!"

I responded to his mercenary and opportunistic nature with silence.

Old Huang became even more anxious. He said, "Sisi's parents and I are going to Dali in a week. We still have some time. You should contact them as soon as possible. As long as we can find them when we arrive, I will remember this favor. I helped you a lot back at the company."

Remembering how kind Lao Huang had been to me at the company, I replied helplessly, "It's hard to get in touch. From my interactions with Yang Sisi these past few days, you might really end up with nothing. You haven't seen how determined she is to stay in Dali!"

Old Huang interrupted me: "I know that. She had a huge fight with her parents at home before, so they had to come up with a compromise to keep her calm. If you hadn't gone to Dali too, I wouldn't have dared to have this idea. I would have made sure her parents kept her in Shanghai and disciplined her severely!"

"You're right, but I'm not going to get involved in this anymore."

I hung up Lao Huang's phone after I finished speaking. I didn't want to be bothered by people from Shanghai while I was in Dali.

Unexpectedly, a moment later, Lao Huang sent me a message: "Your dad called me today, asking me to take good care of you. I was careful not to tell him about your resignation and move to Dali. Your attitude now is really infuriating. You should know the principle of reciprocity!"

This message sent a chill down my spine. My dad does have Lao Huang's number, and it's possible he'll contact Lao Huang to find out about me.

This gave me a heavy reminder. I was most afraid of my parents worrying about me. Reluctantly, I bowed my head to Lao Huang and replied, "Don't threaten me. I will do my best to find Yang Sisi. If I can find her, I will let you know as soon as possible."

Seeing that I had given in, Lao Huang seized the opportunity to launch a sweet-talking attack: "Hey Michael, there's a real opportunity right in front of you. I have a vacancy for a product manager here. If you're willing to come back, I'll recommend you to the company. You're definitely capable and experienced enough to handle the job. Why don't you come back to Shanghai with us?"
