The next day, at 11 a.m., I received a call from Yang Sisi. She said that she had packed her luggage and asked me to ride my motorcycle to a guesthouse in the ancient city to pick her up. The destination was the airport.
I ate a simple bowl of noodles and then went to the ancient city. I met Yang Sisi at the entrance of an inn called "No. 1 Courtyard". She only had a bag with her and no other luggage. She didn't look like she was leaving at all. But this time, she was really leaving and wouldn't be coming back.
I asked her, "Why didn't you live in a place with mountains and rivers?"
“Cao Xiaobei knows I live there and doesn’t want to see him.”
"Where's your suitcase? I remember you brought a really big red suitcase last time you came, didn't you?"
"I sent it back by express delivery."
“That works too. We have too much luggage and nowhere to put the motorcycle.”
As I spoke, I handed the helmet to Yang Sisi. Before she put it on, I finally couldn't help but say to her, "There's something I want to tell you..."
"It'd better not be anything bad, and don't mention Cao Xiaobei to me."
"What I really want to talk about is Cao Xiaobei."
"Shut up..."
"He is indeed Cao Jinbo's son, but..."
Before I could finish speaking, Yang Sisi threw her helmet on the ground and angrily said, "What's wrong with you? Do I need you to teach me how to handle relationships with someone? If you say another word, I'll take a taxi to the airport myself."
"Why are you so temperamental?!"
Yang Sisi has an incredibly bad temper. As I asked her that, she had already reached out to flag down a passing taxi. I didn't want to cause any more trouble with her when she was about to leave, so I grabbed her arm and said in a conciliatory tone, "Stop making a scene. I'll keep this to myself and not bring it up again, okay?"
"If you mention it again, you're a dog."
"Fine, if you mention me again, I'm a dog."
Yang Sisi finally gave up, but this time she didn't show any joy after winning. Instead, she seemed even more depressed. I couldn't figure out what was making her feel so down.
I bent down and picked up the helmet she had thrown on the ground, then returned it to her. Her hands were cold... but the sunlight was blinding.
