The film was plagued by constant retakes as soon as filming began. Xu Peng, Zheng Yong, Yang Zhiming, and the other three had no filming experience whatsoever. Despite a two-week intensive training period, they were still novices at this point, and they would disappear from the camera's viewpoint while filming.
Fang Yang had no choice but to stop and start teaching the five people on the side. Ji Chun, Tan Lei, Hu Lai, and Zhou Zixing chatted together.
"Do you think Director Fang can succeed? These five are obviously complete novices who have never acted before. Isn't it a bit too hasty to put them in the lead roles right away?" Hu Lai watched Fang Yang repeatedly demonstrating the movements to the five in a corner, and he was quite skeptical.
"We'll just do whatever they arrange. All we need to do is perform well."
Tan Lei is a very kind person with a good reputation in the industry. He usually likes to mentor newcomers. Besides, filming has only just begun, so it's normal for there to be problems.
Zhou Zixing is a man of few words and rarely expresses his opinions. Ji Chun, who has worked with Fang Yang before, naturally spoke up for Fang Yang at this time, saying, "I have worked with Director Fang before. He has a great way of training newcomers. It may be a little difficult at first, but it will get better gradually."
"I'm worried that the filming will take too long and delay the shooting of my next project. Running between the two places will be exhausting," Hu Lai complained.
"How long until your next film? We'll help you out and finish filming your scenes first," Tan Lei chuckled.
"There are still three months left. I'm not in a big hurry right now, but I'm afraid it will stay like this forever."
“Then it’s not a big problem,” Ji Chun said confidently. “When we were filming ‘Twin Dragons of the Tang Dynasty,’ we also encountered similar setbacks at the beginning, but it got faster and faster later on, and we finished filming half a month ahead of schedule. Although I didn’t have many scenes, I heard about this from the crew.”
As the morning passed and Fang Yang finally announced the end of the day, not a single shot had been filmed, casting a shadow over the hearts of all the actors in the crew.
After resting for lunch, Fang Yang came up with a plan. After discussing with Master Jin, he called over Xu Peng and the other four, drew a line around the area where they would move, and then had Xu Peng and the other four start moving along the drawn line.
It's said that martial arts practitioners are very sensitive to line drawing, and Fang Yang wanted to see if it would have any effect!
After overcoming initial stumbles, Xu Peng was the first to execute a fairly complete movement pattern, which greatly boosted the confidence of the other four. After an hour of dawdling, the five of them started to move in a more coherent and orderly manner.
After a quick touch-up of her makeup, the afternoon shoot began. It was already past four in the afternoon, and Fang Yang's goal for the day was to shoot one set of shots and then call it a day!
At the end of the Sui Dynasty, Wang Shichong's nephew killed Shen Tui Zhang, who rose up in rebellion against the tyranny, while supervising the construction of river defense works. His son, Xiao Hu, fled to Shaolin Temple and was rescued by the Shaolin monk Tan Zong.
The first scene shows Xiao Hu fleeing to Shaolin Temple and being rescued by the Shaolin monk Tan Zong.
After the line drawing and positioning, Xu Peng seemed to have a breakthrough. After two bumpy takes, he filmed the shot that Fang Yang was satisfied with on the third take. They finished work and closed before dark, which made Hu Lai, who had some objections from the beginning, gape and look at Ji Chun in disbelief, saying, "It really turned out right?"
Ji Chun chuckled and said, "Now you believe me, right? If Director Fang's directing skills weren't up to par, how could he have led a group of unknown actors to create the phenomenal 'Twin Dragons of the Tang Dynasty'? I believe that after this movie, your value will likely rise to a new level!"
Hu Lai touched his bald head and chuckled sheepishly, "It would be even better if I could reach a higher level, but I would prefer to finish filming within the allotted time so as not to affect my next project."
After removing his makeup, Tan Lei walked over and said, "Let's go. Have dinner and rest early tonight. Go back and read more scripts. If you get outdone by these little brats, you'll probably feel a bit bad!"
Zhou Zixing silently followed Tan Lei outside. No matter how the outside world changes, as long as he has solid skills, he won't be afraid of no one coming to do business with him.
Finally, they got off to a good start, and Fang Yang was all smiles. The whole series revolved around Xu Peng. Once Xu Peng got the hang of things, half of the problems were solved. Even if there were some stumbles, they could be resolved by filming a few more times.
After dinner, Fang Yang and Zhou Xin went for a walk to digest their food. Just as they returned to their room, Fang Yang was startled by a knock on the door. Who would be coming at this hour? It was almost nine o'clock.
Fang Yang opened the door and was a little surprised to see Xu Peng. "Xiao Xu, is there something you need?"
Fang Yang gestured for Xu Peng to come in, and handed him a bottle of water. "Have some water. You've had a long day. How are you feeling?"
Xu Peng hesitated for a moment, "President Fang, I'm not tired, I just have something I'd like to ask you about."
"Sit down first. What's on your mind? You're both grown men, there's nothing to be embarrassed about," Fang Yang said, opening a bottle of water and gesturing for Xu Peng to speak frankly.
"Mr. Fang, I'm sorry to have disappointed you today."
Fang Yang looked at Xu Peng in surprise, "No, why would I be disappointed?"
"One scene took a whole day to shoot, and I heard from many people in the crew that it would delay the filming progress."
Fang Yang laughed, "I had already anticipated your performance. There's no question of delaying things. You've never been involved in acting before, so it's normal for you to be a little slow. I originally wanted you to learn for a while first, but the company is currently short on funds and has many expenses, so I'm having you learn as we film. Besides, everyone starts as a novice, and growth takes time. Don't take it too seriously. Try to think about the script tonight. I have high hopes for you."
Fang Yang's few words restored Xu Peng's confidence, who had been dejected. Xu Peng stood up abruptly and said, "President Fang, rest assured, we will definitely not let you down."
