Chapter 18 Heavy Rain

Chapter 18 Heavy Rain

The family of three gathered in the general manager's office.

Zhou Ran washed the tea set while Zhou Ji sat in his seat looking through the various data reports for this quarter.

"It's far worse than when I was young."

Zhou Ran turned a deaf ear to them. Once the couple arrived, they would definitely give him a beating.

Zhao Ning asked, "Are there any new people joining your translation team?"

"What do you mean by 'again'?" Zhou Ran asked back, "How did you get in? Don't you know?"

Zhao Ning drank tea: "How would I know?"

The aroma of tea filled the air, and the steam rose into the air and dissipated. Zhou Ran didn't care about Ms. Zhao's mood at all, saying, "You're really interesting. You didn't forget to recruit people for me even after having a meal, and now you're pretending to have amnesia."

Zhao Ning was annoyed: "Hey, what's your attitude?"

Zhou Ji put down the report, raised his eyelids, looked at his son meaningfully, and asked with a smirk, "The girl I introduced to you last time we had dinner together, Yan Qilin's daughter, her name is Yan what?"

Zhou Ran replied: "Yan Nian."

"Oh! Now I remember, she's Yan Nian." Zhao Ning seemed to be lost in thought, suppressing some of his impatience. "How's it going?"

Zhou Ran noticed the change in Zhao Ning's expression and raised his thick eyebrows slightly: "Very good."

Zhao Ning smiled. "That's a pretty high evaluation, huh? In the past six months, someone has finally caught Mr. Zhou's eye."

Zhou Ran was too lazy to pay attention to her and added tea to her cup.

Zhao Ning changed the subject: "I don't want to drink this. I'm so sleepy. Ask Gu Pingping to make me some coffee. I don't want the tea room."

Zhou Ran tutted irritably and chased him away: "Isn't drinking tea the same? Then go back to sleep."

Zhao Ning leaned on the sofa and rubbed his eyebrows: "There is a dinner party tonight, I can't avoid it, hurry up."

Zhou Ran took out his phone and said, "Gu Pingping is out. I'll order takeout for you."

Zhao Ning picked up the pillow on the sofa and threw it at him: "Why are you taking so long when I asked you to make coffee?"

Zhou Ran dodged and the pillow fell to the ground: "Then cook it yourself."

Zhao Ning: "Old Zhou, fire him."

Zhou Ji said cooperatively, "Okay, let's hold a shareholders' meeting tomorrow."

“…”

Yan Nian listened carefully to Xu Xinrui's explanation of the preliminary matters concerning the contract when a WeChat message popped up on his phone.

Yan Nian didn't care and continued to listen to her.

She waited until Xu Xinrui returned to his workstation before she picked it up and looked at it.

Zhou Ran sent her a message seven minutes ago: [Come to the office.]

This message is exactly the same as the previous one.

Yan Nian looked back and saw that everyone was resting and no one was paying attention to her.

After leaving the translation team, he knocked on Zhou Ran's office door in a daze.

"Come in."

Yan Nian pushed the door open and walked in. The three members of the family looked at her in unison.

Yan Nian couldn't help but feel a little nervous and asked, "Boss Zhou, are you looking for me?"

Zhou Ran ordered: "Make a cup of coffee for Mr. Zhao."

"..." Yan Nian had no choice but to agree, "Okay."

Zhao Ning looked at her with a smile: "Thank you!"

Yan Nian said softly, "You're welcome."

The office was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Yan Nianman carefully placed the brewed coffee in front of Zhao Ning, saying, "Be careful, it's hot."

Zhao Ning smelled the aroma of the coffee, which showed both its cleanliness and sweetness, and couldn't help but look at Yan Nian again.

Yan Nian brought a cup to Zhou Ji and placed it on the desk.

Zhou Ji: “Thank you!”

Yan Nian returned and poured Zhou Ran another glass: "Boss Zhou, I'll be busy now."

Seeing that she had done a good job in saving face, Zhou Ran wanted to leave quickly. He smiled and said, "Okay, get busy!"

Yan Nian felt as if he had been pardoned when he left the office, and his whole body relaxed immediately.

Xu Xinrui had something to do tonight, so he handed the work over to her and Xu Mi.

I finished the task around nine o'clock in the evening and packed up to go home.

Xu Mi went to the basement to drive the car, and Yan Nian was downstairs on the first floor.

The mobile weather software warned an hour ago that there would be strong winds and heavy rain tonight, so people should try to avoid going out.

Xu Yiqing had a social engagement tonight, so he sent her a message to remind her to take a taxi home early.

Yan Nian walked out of the company gate and saw the water on the ground. It had been raining for a while.

It’s still a long way to get a taxi.

The rain was getting heavier, with occasional strong winds, and it was no longer possible to hide outside the hall door.

Yan Nian went back to avoid the rain and ordered a taxi on his mobile phone app. Because it was raining, the waiting time increased from 3 minutes to 8 minutes.

I waited for half an hour and still no one took the order.

Yan Nian looked at the distance to the subway station on the map and found that there was a station entrance just over 300 meters away.

I put the bag on my head, even though I knew it was useless, I still gave the heavy rain the most basic respect.

After rushing out a few steps in the wind and rain, I was already soaked all over.

Run towards the subway, and after going straight, you need to turn right to cross the zebra crossing. There are not many cars on the road at this time, and Yan Nian doesn't care to check the traffic lights and runs forward.

A black SUV suddenly braked in front of her right. Yan Nian instinctively stepped back and waited for the car to leave.

Then the car window was rolled down, and Zhou Ran called her from the driver's seat: "Yan Nian, get in."

The sound of heavy rain rustled in his ears, but it was far less loud than his voice.

Yan Nian was surprised by his appearance and stood there in a daze. Her eyes were blurred by the rain and opened and closed repeatedly.

This was probably the most embarrassing time she had ever been in front of Zhou Ran.

Zhou Ran angrily said, "What are you standing there for? Come up quickly."

This wasn't the time to be sentimental. Yan Nian walked around to the passenger side and opened the door, shutting out the sound of rain.

You can wring out half a basin of water from his body.

The water on her head dripped down her chin onto her hands and skirt. She looked extremely miserable.

Yan Nian turned his head to the side, preparing to say thank you.

Zhou Ran was wearing black gym clothes, looking like he'd just finished a workout. His brows were furrowed, his lips were set straight, and there wasn't a hint of mockery in his eyes. His expression was serious, but rather displeased.

The thank you Yan Nian was about to blurt out turned into an apology: "Sorry, your car got dirty."

Zhou Ran's eyes were dark as he stared at her face without saying a word.

The dry carriage was filled with humidity because of her presence, mixed with the powerful scent of grass and wood, which was his unique smell, and it entered her nostrils along with the humidity.

His chest, heaving violently from running, hadn't yet calmed down. Yan Nian slowed his breathing and gently tugged at the clothes that clung to his skin; summer clothes were thin, and although the light in the carriage was dim, he could vaguely see the underwear underneath.

Zhou Ran noticed her embarrassment and looked away. The car was still parked on the zebra crossing, and there was no rush to drive away.

He took a casual jacket from behind and leaned over to help her put it on. The loose clothes were like a loincloth, covering her upper body tightly and giving her a sense of security.

He also helped her cover the hem of her clothes.

Zhou Ran's series of actions were too commonplace. Yan Nian was a little stunned by the care he received. He couldn't help but wonder if this was an illusion after being drenched in rain. After a long while, two words came out from between his lips and teeth: "Thank you!"

Zhou Ran put clothes on her, took out a new towel from the gym bag at the back, and gave her an irresistible order: "Come here."

Yan Nian was stunned for a moment, not daring to look him in the eye as she raised her hand to take it.

Zhou Ran didn't seem to want to give it.

He said 'come here', not 'take it'.

Yan Nian's fingers were cold and numb, and she was also a little confused and didn't want to move, so she obediently put her head forward.

Zhou Ran rubbed her head violently.

This intensity is more or less related to personal grudges.

He ruffled Yan Nian's limp hair, but she remained silent in a good-tempered manner.

Zhou Ran complained: "What kind of legs do you have? You run so fast that I can't catch up with you even if I drive a car."

Yan Nian: “…”

After wiping my hair, there was no more dripping.

Zhou Ran threw the towel directly on her head: "Is there water in your ears? I'm talking to you?"

He rubbed my head so hard that I felt dizzy and had no chance to reply.

Yan Nian pulled off the towel and raised her hand to push back her messy hair. Her face was pale, like a white rose hit by rain. She looked cold and embarrassed, but her words were extremely gentle: "I'm sorry, I didn't see it."

Zhou Ran glanced at the central control panel and made sure the air conditioner was blowing hot air before starting the car: "Don't catch a cold in my car, or you'll blackmail me for medical expenses."

"..." Yan Nian sneezed and sniffed, "No, don't worry."

"Hold on." Zhou Ran glanced at her: "Address."

Yan Nian said, "Hualue Mansion."

The car had already driven for a while when Zhou Ran suddenly asked, "Am I old?"

Yan Nian didn't understand what he meant: "What?"

Zhou Ran asked unhappily, "Didn't you understand what I meant?"

He said 'you' with gritted teeth, as if he was going to fight with her in the next second.

Yan Nian understood instantly and explained, "This is a respectful title for the leader."

"Really?" Zhou Ran was suspicious. "Do you really think so?"

Calling her that lowered his status to that of a driver she hired.

Yan Nian felt uncomfortable after hearing this, and it sounded even more sarcastic when Zhou Ran said it.

Because he had been calling her that for a long time, Yan Nian just said "hmm" and didn't explain anything else.

Zhou Ran smiled and concentrated on driving.

There was no communication for a long time.

As we approached Huayue Mansion, the rain became lighter.

Zhou Ran parked the car on the side of the road, got out in the rain, took an umbrella from the trunk, and walked into the 24-hour pharmacy on the side of the road.

Not long after, he got into the car with a bag of medicine and threw it directly into her arms.

Yan Nian quickly caught it. She lowered her eyes and looked at it in the light coming in from the street lamp. It was some medicine to prevent colds.

Zhou Ran said, "It's written above, so just take it as it is! The company still has to pay you for your sick leave, so don't even think about slacking off."

"..." Yan Nian held the medicine in silence, lowering his head and thinking for a long time.

That year, he said he would look for her again, but she decisively cut off their contact. How did Zhou Ran view her at that time?

Do you think she is a very dishonest and unreliable person?
